Not sure why you would want to cull these occupations. Lawyers and Uni lecturers dont get paid if there is no demand. Hard to imagine too may scientists in the UK, I had thought it was a UK strength. Civil servants, well public administration has to be done or do you have an alternative?
I think increasing peoples access to successful training for these occupations is more important than culling them.

Good job you noticed that. GP's identify causes of disease and refer people to consultants who specialise in a specific area and perform operations or interventions.

agree with all of that, and you can add the unfathomable stigma and shame that accompanies any professional error or misdiagnoses. Very few occupations have such pressure day in day out with constant public scrutiny on weakness not strength, and little ability to influence the wider determinants of health, even at the most basic level of decent housing for people.

Be sure of your position on this, because they are quite a scarce resource these days and its not the quickest or the easiest of occupations to acquire. As well as being highly valued by others, you could also acknowledge there are far easier ways of earning 90k a year than devoting your life to General Practice.

I think we both are hoping hospital admissions don't rise and market confidence returns and the rest of the world is able to catch up on vaccinations. Meanwhile, if I had an accountable leadership role I would be planning on how to meet the reverse scenario, as this has yet to be disproved by the evidence available at this time.
