Yes Suzy it is true. Also that most fish caught in UK waters go to france and other EU countries. And yes currently fishing is only a tiny part of our trade. But prior to our joining EEC, we had the biggest fishing fleet in Europe and Heath gave it all away to secure his vision of a united Europe.

Dogger. I reckon this is just the latest shambolic and knee jerk reaction from an administration that has lost it's way, from Cheltenham and Twickenham events, to open airports with no checks, to schools, to 10pm closing times to mass testing, it's been a complete joke and totally illogical. I predict there will be massive non-compliance over the Christmas period by a fed up and increasingly scepitcal nation.

Tam. If you are investing for capital growth and have a good risk profile, then cheap AIM shares are the best way rather than via large established corporations with high share prices.
You couldn't in your wildest dreams expect a 10 bagger from say LLOY or BP, even from recent low points. But it's perfectly reasonable to hope for a 10 bagger from small AIM companies like JLP, GLR, EUA given a bit od good news and a following wind. Let's not forget GGP of course which has become a 17 bagger within 12 months even before they start digging gold out of the ground.
So for a modest £1k investment GGP holders would now have a very respectable nest egg.

Apart from lots of big dollar signs these tailing often also contain some very dodgy materials which, when filtered out, are then put to good use elsewhere leaving, hopefully cleaner waste behind.
Take Kabwe for example. One of the most polluted towns on the planet due to the contained lead within the tailings. Yes the tailings will still be there but hopefully a lot less deadly afterwards.
Personally I would then use them to backfill the huge hole left by the mine.

Charlie. Not a tax expert but I would assume that as the company is still in existence and you haven't disposed of your holding, you would not have any offset rights.
