Interesting article in media today confirming that holidaymaker from uk will be governed by covid rules in individual countries some of which require 2 separate negative tests and/or 2 week isolation before returning home.
As most uk cruisers are older generations, the ramping up of vaccinations in uk should hopefully give a boost to cunard , princess and po parts of the business, as long as not too many restrictions on ports of call.

Ken we didn't like Britannia. Was only 1 year old and already going rusty. No midship stairs. Our cabin was flooded and they moved us to another cabin which has just dried out after another flood. Several others passengers had plumbing issues. Got compensation. Tiny balconies.

Re excursions. We only use them if we have to. Such as city on your own excursions eg to Rome or Bilbao or in dodgy places. On a far east cruise we had an overnight Bangkok stop but rather than four 3 or 4 hour coach journeys over 2 days we pre booked an overnight hotel by the river in Bangkok with an executive people carrier pick up and drop off for 4 of us.
Most European excursions can be done easily as long as the public transport is good, eg train from Naples to Pompeii at tiny fraction of the cost. Most Caribbean islands you can hire a taxi just off port for a several hour island tour with air con. Hope that helps.

And that's exactly the point. There are two cruise markets. The family market with big ships, robotic arms, climbing walls, robotic bars et al and the more seasoned market of smaller ships, longer cruises and a more sedate life. And whilst the latter loses some off the back end with age each year, it is nonetheless constantly replenished especially for no fly cruises.
And if the share price is to have any chance of recovering to past highs it must successfully cater to both.

Let's also not forget that larger ships are far more likely to have spare wasted capacity by sail date.

There are still massive numbers of loyal cruisers who prefer ship sizes of 2000 or less and often pay a premium for this. I'll admit that carnival, celebrity and royal Caribbean have more wow factor but we still come back to the more modest ships of the P AND O, and Princess fleets.
Nearly all the bad experiences we've had with embarkation, tendering and boarding have been on bigger ships, especially in less accessible ports.
