SP is on a rollercoaster ride this past 20 mins and what is interesting is that Tesco’s & Sainsbury’s charts are exactly the same (not checked others) which says that the algorithms are hard at work deciphering all the news on the run up.

I agree with the comments below. The SP could still drop a bit but I believe it’s close to the floor now. Any drop from here could quickly be recovered next week.

The pressure is there but I also think the algorithm is picking up on news, budget, taxes (and the speculation that it will be the wealthier that will shoulder the most) that is pushing it down further than others. I'm as tempted as hell to jump back in here but resisting for now.

To be honest I find it a bit strange so many are buying just 2 days out from the budget. Maybe after the budget announcement it will be trading as normal with buy on the news and Xmas in mind being the trend that pushes it higher, we'll see. I'm still holding out until after Wednesday even though it's gone below my 350 entry plan. My patience might mean I'll pick it up at even more of a bargain than the -20% it is now from when I sold.

The SP seemed to be positively stable today until the sudden drop at the end of trading. I haven’t seen anything that would suggest why? Can anyone shine any light on why?

Why feel ashamed? I remember the discussions about spreading you portfolio and you did by moving into RR if I remember well so whilst MKS was losing you were still gaining. You got back in at 360 which is at a discount vs previous. You clearly believe in its future so you just need to sit tight. When you were holding for the long term there were for sure periodic drops of much more than the -5% you’re currently sitting on.

JDS, I’m against but the right wing parties and media want everyone to think that’s the root cause of their problems when it’s not. It’s the right wing policies of the past, Thatcher, Brexit etc. anyway, back to M&S 😉. What price did you buy back in at? And good luck by the way 👍

Nigel, sorry JDS, of course they were frightened and in many cases they were right to be! Now their great, great grandchildren are scared to go swimming in the rivers and live in fuel poverty, scared of putting the heating on. But nowadays it’s forgotten and it’s the fault of the illegal immigrants!

Sorry but how can someone take your forecasts seriously when you think Nigel Farage will be the countries saviour? His appointees would bankrupt this country and he wouldn't last 5 minutes. If it's anything that would crash the UK markets and economy it would be him!!! People will pay for Brexit for generations to come. Everything is more expensive because of that. Just look at what happened to the pound. Massive negative impact on import prices.

well i'm glad i missed the boat on friday now. i did say i would buy back in at 350 or 400, whichever came first, but now it's almost 2% below 350 i can afford to wait. so if it hits 350 again i'm back in or i'll wait until 330 comes along. if it does hit 330 then i can only see a rebound because much of the cyber uncertainty is behind it and it would be beyond logic for it to drop further. having said that, anything is possible. people pumping 500 on here when it's easy to get ****y when it's climbing are often too stupid to see the bigger picture. anyway, i can't see it getting back to 400 before xmas or next update. it might be close but i think it could be too much to ask given the backdrop. interest rates might give it some welcome xmas cheer. gla

TBH I like to hear people's anecdotal evidence, especially in quieter periods, so thanks for that. But when you write about the stores being busy on the run up to Xmas , which I'm sure is true, the real question is are they busier and making more money vs the same period last year? Unless you know that then you really can't base it on whether it's a good buying opportunity or not. If I read/saw the same mid Jan/Feb then I would consider it as good evidence to consider buying.

I was tempted to get back in today even though it's still shy of my 350 target but I got lost in my work and missed out. Let's see what happens Monday.

David, yes and often there's nothing much behind. Over 10 years ago my company was giving me shares as a retention bonus and I chose to sell them when they matured to help pay off my mortgage. I don't regret it even though they would be worth 5 times the value now and twice the equivalent value of the home I was living in at the time.

Hi Fender, regarding your question how the SP will finish 2025, I think higher than what it will be around budget time. My feeling is that M&S will have a Santa rally as all the bad self inflicted & budget news will be behind it and the focus will be on interest rates. Food inflation seems to be falling which will be a positive medium/long term. M&S always has an excellent Xmas so if the price is right then I think investors will be backing it for that reason. 2026 will be a lower interest rate story favouring stocks.

So I'm going to commit to getting back in, so whichever comes first, my price points for re-entry are:

350 - with all the background noise it could easily drop to 350 but I think it will be limited beyond that so a good entry point IMO.

400 - if it recovers to this and the budget is behind us then full steam ahead.

@JDS, this might sound shocking to some 😂but I think you can be both at the same time. I was a LTH of M&S before the incident and at the same time was trading it. Often I would take profits on a chunk if not all, especially if I thought there would be a pullback, and then buy back in or add at the same time and at hopefully a lower price. Also, if I thought there was good momentum and I had built a % safety net then I would add at low risk. Just because someone trades a stock doesn't mean they don't believe in it's long term future.

I was thinking Retirement is quite today but then I popped over to the IAG BB 😂😂he’s on about the fact he has 4 cars, how much he’s made on RR, BP etc. And the best is he also said he sold a lot of IAG at £4.11 (BS if you ask me) when he said on here earlier in the week that the SP would take off on today’s results! And maybe better still today is that he thinks IAG will still be a fiver soon (heard that somewhere before). So what is it Retirement? Are you a LTH or not? Seems to me you make it up as you go along and have a bad memory. I remember you also saying on here some time ago that your were in your eighties and then a few weeks back fifties 😂😂🤦‍♂️😂.

Sounds as though they are still feeling the impact from the incident and will continue to do so over the coming months. I wonder how much is 'missing' from these results?

My opinion is that any positive results will have a minimal impact on the SP (already baked in?) whilst any bad news will see the SP price heavily punished. I can't help thinking about what Fender mentioned many times about overinflated prices in food. If that turns out to be true and it helps the results then it's sustainability will be questioned, especially with the upcoming budget. If it is again true and the results are bad then god help the SP because it could also carry a lot of negative media coverage that M&S customers paid for their incompetence during a cost of living crisis. Also the heavy discounting on clothing that has also been mentioned on here multiple times. These, plus others, are the reasons why I've stayed out. Here's hoping for positive results (including the detail) & outlook because I can then get back on the boat in calm waters. DYOR GLA
