May decide to take M&S over. Would be a good move for them considering the recent tie up.

I don't know where you shop Alpha but the M&S I go to was packed and the shelves were looking very sparse. Bad luck if you are shorting this as they were out of loo roll.

The mkt cap of less than £250m is crazy. Forget Mediclinic buying, at this rate the NHS may have a go...

If the NHS want SPI to help maybe they should suggest that they are more than happy to help and in return they could ban short selling on their stock. Problem is the Government won't ban it as some of their biggest donors are hedge funds... At least when everyone has sweet FA we can go and loot their houses...

I am surprised that Mediclinic haven't made a move before but as you say they will struggle to grow the business in SA due to competition concerns. The problem if they do offer now it will be likely to be a low ball offer and I can't see the SPI bod accepting or recommending it. We shall have to wait and see...

SPI is better placed than most in these circumstances and will have a lot more customers than airliners unfortunately. No doubt the NHS will be trying to get a grip on coronavirus whilst transferring a lot of medical procedures to private operators. I am going to continue to hold and add. GLAH

LMI holders got completely and utterly shafted. The takeover should have never happened. It just goes to show how inept and corrupt the market is. Liberum had a 15p target on LMI. Any guesses to what the value would be today? Liberum mining analysts seem to get it wrong don't they. They were bullish on SXX and had a 90p target on them. Shame on them...

I don't think that we are too far away from a takeover here. I would have thought that it would be north of 450.

Sityboy - I had similar concerns with the company being milked and sold a while back at 118. The recent fall seems overdone so I got back in the early 50s. FWIW I think they seem undervalued and eventually will go back up. The good thing about the mine is that they do pull out some big stones and eventually that has to benefit the shareholders. Diamond miners have been neglected due to falling prices but the figures today give a bit of hope moving forward.
With the share price at these levels the BOD should consider a share buy back.

Have underperform on SPI yet have put a buy on MDC. Broker recommendations are an absolute joke today and I don't know why the market gives them any credence. Take Liberum for example they had a sell rating on LMI of 15p they are the equivalent of over 200p now yet they had a buy on SXX with a target of 70p yet they are now 5.5p. They are either working on someones behalf for their benefit or they are a bunch of muppets...
This seems very fishy and no doubt we will see what transpires here.

In line with expectations and further reduction of debt. Good base to move onwards and upwards. I still think this will be taken over this year.

Reduced short on 17 Dec to 0.69%. They probably realise that Spire are a possible takeover target for 2020.

Of LMI would probably north of 250 if was still independent. SGL got a cracking deal. This will probably turn out to be a transforming transaction for them... At least SGL are having a decent run.

I can't see an offer less than £2.00 as they previously rejected a 315p cash/share offer but you never know...
I wonder what Connor, Clark will do with their short position which is circa 0.7%. I would say they would be in a bit of a precarious position if they held on especially if Brexit goes through. IMHO

I suppose if the Brexit deal goes ahead it's only a matter of time before we get a takeover offer here. I would of thought Mediclinic would be the prime candidate as S.A Government have expressed their concerns over the three largest healthcare providers having too much exposure in S.A so there is little room for expansion there. Also their Swiss operations appear to be improving so this may give them impetus to have a crack at Spire while their share price is greatly undervalued. I would have thought £2.00 plus is achievable and would still be £1.60 cheaper than the 30% they picked up at £3.60. Should be interesting here over the coming months...

The brokers are there to facilitate the hedge funds. In my opinion their recommendations are not worth the paper they are written on. PDL have found valuable diamonds in the past and there is no reason to think that they won't find more valuable diamonds going forward. They only need to find a couple of large stones in the next six months which is plausible. At this point the hedge funds will move on to other opportunities as the risk reward here won't work in their favour.

A takeover is a real possibility. I wouldn't put it past Froneman from Sibanye Stillwater to have a go. From a sole gold producer they are the worlds leading platinum miner and the second largest palladium miner in a matter of a few years. Having said that I doubt the current BOD would recommend an offer of 20p per share. It would at least make it more interesting here and no doubt the shorters would go away. It makes you wonder if they are working for a predator doesn't it? It wouldn't be the first time...

The good news here is that the major shorter here is Winton Capital. They have made a lot of redundancies (over 20%) and their profits after tax was down 45%. It's a pity we can't short them isn't it? Their systematic trading system doesn't sound up to much does it...

I wouldn't be surprised that news got out last Friday about the latest find. If PDL can find some more stones like this it is game over for the shorters. They think that they can push it down lower but in order to do so they will have to short more. There are most probably quite a few under the 0.5% radar. I have faith that they will find quite a lot of valuable stones in the next couple of years. It's a very risky game to short a diamond miner at these levels. They do have debt but surely investors have to see that this money has been ploughed into the mines and the chances of more large finds will be in their favour. IMHO

A few years ago I got into SOLG buying initially at just under 10p to see it drop to under 1.5p. I averaged down to a break even of 4p. When they got back there I stupidly sold as the view from the so called experts at the time was negative and the company had no future. Within a matter of months they were over 45p. I had just under 3m shares. For what its worth I still think there is potential here and I will wait it out.
