Tuesday preview: US house price data, Ocado in the spotlight

Mon, 27th Mar 2023 12:25

(Sharecast News) - Financial markets' focus on Tuesday would be on the latest house price figures out of the US, alongside a smattering of speeches from central bankers from around the world.

At 1300 GMT, the US Federal Housing Finance Agency was to release its house price inex for January.

In parallel, S&P would release its own Case Shiller house price gauge covering that same month.

Those data points would be followed by the Conference Board's consumer confidence gauge and the Richmond Fed's regional factory index, both for the month of March, at 1400 GMT.

Earlier, at 0845, the Monetary Policy Committee's Catherine Mann was to deliver a speech, followed by another from Bundesbank chief, Joachim Nagel, at 1500 GMT, and ECB boss Christine Lagarde a quarter of an hour later.

On the corporate side of things, Ocado was due to publish its first quarter results amid concerns around its ability to grow its sales, said Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK.

In 2022, sales were flat but those from the core retail arm shrank by 3.8%, while its losses widened from £176.9m to £500.8m, mostly due to its retail unit.

More recently, the shares had come under more pressure after US outfit Kroger said that it would not roll-out any further fulfillment centres in 2023.
