Chancellor George Osborne has confirmed reports his Mansion Speech on Wednesday will reveal plans for reprivatising Lloyds Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).In an interview with BBC Radio on Tuesday, he said the government is eager to return the lenders to private ownership and vowed taxpayers would recoup their investment. "We want to make sure the taxpayer gets value for money," he told the station. "We want to get the money back. We want these banks to be strong supporters of the economy in Britain."Osborne also praised the work of outgoing RBS Chief Executive Stephen Hester, who joined the bank in 2008 following its taxpayer bailout. Hester last week announced he would quit by the end of the year."He's done a very good rescue job," Osborne said. "Now we're moving to the recovery phase of RBS." On the same day as Osborne's speech, the Bank of England will release the minutes of the Monetary Policy Committee's (MPC) last rate setting meeting. Investors will be watching how worried policy-makers were (or not) about the recent increased sensitivity of measures of inflation expectations to "economic news and short-term inflation news."Acting as a backdrop, the US Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee (FOMC) - its rate setting organ - will tomorrow announce the results of its latest deliberations. In particular, all eyes will be on whether Fed chief Bernanke reiterates that a start to tapering the central bank's quantitative easing program can be expected in the next few months. More important even, observers seem a tad unsure about just how exactly global capital markets would react to such an announcement. For that reason Bernanke is expected to stress that the entire process will be quite gradual.
