SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Travel Sector Hit As Global Barriers Go Up

Mon, 25th Jan 2021 10:47

(Alliance News) - The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Monday.

----------

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

----------

Ricardo, up 5.0% at 409.32 pence, 12-month range 262p-800p. The environmental services consultancy said its trading performance for the first half of its financial year was in line with management expectations, although operating profit and revenue is set to be below that of the same period a year before. For the six months to the end of December, Ricardo's order intake was GBP181 million, a 13% drop from GBP208.6 million in the same period a year before, but up 13% on the six months to June 30, 2020

----------

SThree, up 3.7% at 340.00p, 12-month range 195.2p-392.5p. The staffing firm focused on roles in science, technology, engineering and mathematics reported revenue of GBP1.20 billion for 2020, down from GBP1.32 billion in 2019, while pretax profit fell to GBP30.6 million from GBP56.8 million. Whilst broader market conditions for staffing continue to be challenging, SThree said, the STEM markets have been "robust".

----------

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

----------

Saga, down 6.2% at 276.08p, 12-month range 118.5p-701.7p. Saga offers products and services for the over 50s, including insurance and holidays. Fellow travel firm On the Beach was down 4.6%. "The travel sector is being hit hard once again today, with growing fears around UK, South African, and Brazilian Covid variants expected to provide a more isolationist mentality throughout the vaccination process," commented Joshua Mahony, senior market analyst at IG. The US on Monday was set to join France, Israel and Sweden in pulling up the drawbridge to certain arrivals, with special concern about new strains of the pathogen that originated in Britain and South Africa. British Airways-parent International Consolidated Airlines was the worst performer in London's FTSE 100 on Monday, down 7.1% in morning trade.
