(Alliance News) - Gulf Keystone Petroleum Ltd on Wednesday said its operations in the Kurdistan region have not been hurt despite Iraq being the site of an exchange of attacks between the US and Iran.
In the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Gulf Keystone operates the Shaikan Field, a large oil discovery in the region.
The company said: "Gulf Keystone's operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, both in Erbil and at the Shaikan Field, continue safely and have not been affected, despite the recent events in Iraq."
Iranian state television on Wednesday claimed that missile strikes on bases in Iraq killed 80 Americans, in a report citing what it called an informed Revolutionary Guards source.
The US Pentagon said it was still "working on initial battle damage assessments" after "Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against US military and coalition forces in Iraq."
This was after a US drone attack in the early hours of Friday morning killed Qasem Soleimani, a key Iranian military commander.
Gulf Keystone said that the regional government of Kurdistan made a payment of USD21.7 million for crude oil sales from Shaikan in August 2019. The company added that it is entitled to USD17.0 million of those funds.
Shares in the company were 0.6% lower at 198.00 pence each in London on Wednesday morning.
