After over five years since taking the helm at technology company Smiths Chief Executive Philip Bowman seems to be making headway in restructuring it, even if that is over twice the time he expected it to take. Thus, over the last three months the company´s share price has outperformed the wider sector by 9 per cent. The firm´s businesses are in fine shape, although it is only slowly facing up to its pensions´ deficit. For The Sunday Times´s Danny Fortson it will not be long before Bowman takes more drastic action.Tesco´s recent drive to reinvest in its UK operations, following its first profit-warning in over 20 years, which it delivered back in January 2012, seems to be bearing fruit. Group sales rose by 1.8% in the six weeks to January 5th, its strongest showing in three years. The company´s Chief Executive, Philip Clarke, is also focusing on foreign ventures. The shares have outperformed the benchmark so far this year and holding on to the stock looks like good advice ahead of the firm´s full -year results due out on April 17th, The Sunday Telegraph´s Questor says. Nicaragua-focused miner Condor Gold may soon see estimates for its potential annual production revised higher, towards 200,000 ounces of gold, or £200m at today's prices. Significantly, Condor has a strong management team, with a record of making money for investors and backers with deep pockets. In fact, renowned investor Jim Mellon is on its board. "Early-stage miners are risky and Condor is not for the cautious. However, it has made great strides and won support with international investors. The shares have real potential for the adventurous," says The Financial Mail on Sunday´s Midas column.
