Condor, an AIM-listed mining company, has re-opened a long closed shaft in the historic La India Gold Mine in Nicaragua. What's called the "Zopilote Adit" was driven perpendicular from the La India Vein for at least 400m at some time prior to the mine's closure in 1956. An adit is an entrance to a mine which can be used to gain access to underground shafts, or to drain water from the mine.Condor says preliminary drilling has already confirmed the presence of multiple mineralised veins, it also points to sampling done on the shaft back in 1997 by the Canadian firm TVX which suggested gold was still present in the Zopilote Adit.Mark Child, Chief Executive of Condor Resources, commented: "The TVX Gold results show seven separate gold veins along a 260m length of the adit. A re-sampling of these veins is expected to be completed by 31st December 2011 ... The sample data may potentially be included in a future mineral resource upgrade".Condor's share price has risen over 5% in early trading.BS
