Capitalizer, you ask, "What’s the take on how this all impacts Senior?"
The market has reasonably taken the view the tariffs announced will adversely impact Senior's business. As a shareholder I hope the market view is exaggerated and will offer me a trading opportunity. That is my hope, and something I'm exploring, but I can't be certain it will.
Trump has introduced a simple list of tariffs that, if enacted, will disrupt supply chains and damage economies. Few expect them to remain in force, but no one knows what the position will be in a week, a month or a year. It is chaotic but perhaps it is a necessary wake up call. EU regulation consists of several years of discussion on minutia before piling regulations on to business benefiting the incumbents and putting up barriers to entry for the disruptors. Over the last decade or two the divergence between US and EU productivity should provide insight on the best direction of travel, from a business perspective. Lawyers and bureaucrats might disagree.
On Senior, word search 'segment' on the latest report and you'll get good info on the breakdown of the business in relation to Aerospace and Flexonics. Aerospace is further broken out to 'structures' a business segment up for sale.
The last 4 slides of the presentation lists the location of sites for each segment. If you have an understanding of the likely geographies of manufacture for the various customers you'll gain some insight to the possible impact of the tariffs. But fundamentally the picture that should form is one of a highly diverse business supplying a large range of customers in multiple geographies.
In challenging times the companies in the best position to succeed will have a range of geographies and business's that complement each other.
Another consideration is that Senior supplies highly engineered components into complex manufacturing and assembly processes. Senior is reputed to have a reputation for reliable delivery. Price is always a factor, but when the finished article is a civil aircraft, there are other considerations.
Ultimately, Senior could benefit from the current turmoil, unless they are not as good as they claim, and a disruptor emerges from the pack.
The aerospace structures business was reported as being close to a sale, but this may now be delayed until the dust settles. I'd guess that's a market negative.
