Looks like 70p could be our lot with this "good" news. Very disappointing and a stark reminder of the almighty hole this company has placed its shareholders in!
Garonne, Italy is about 10% of the company, so to get a compound 3-4% increase in the SP for something that is only 10% of the company to me seems quite impactfull, theoretically if the companies were listed separately then your effectiving getting a 30% increase in the SP
But sentiment can make a big difference to the SP Beo and it's been negative on VOD for a long time. Should the SP ever have been this low anyway based on fundamentals? I'm still not impressed with Margherita as she lacks the ability to promote the company. She's a technocrat devoid of any charisma.
Bear in mind the drag on today's SP by the broader market, the FTSE is down, on a FTSE good day then the SP would be higher, Plus the US waking up seems to bump the SP in recent days, so its hard to see the true impact on the Market of this news.
Fair point Beo. Let's hope it creeps up for the rest of the week. God knows, Vod shareholders need a change of fortune.
Also for all of those, expecting or hoping all these sales proceeds pay of the debt, don't count on it. The cost of capital is made up of cost of equity (typically 10+%) and cost of debt (
WOW, why it cut off the end
debt at 5% so paying off a different % of debt vs the gearing has the effect of increasing the cost of capital
Back in the 60s where it belongs. Absolutely pathetic! I still think a new, more dynamic CEO is badly needed here. Afterall, it was Margherita and the old guard who put Vod in this debt ridden hole in the first place.
Garonne - Unfortunately the last 10 years has been due to incompetent senior leadership. I was there (VFUK) until 7 years ago, nothing appears to have changed and the share price has gone backwards, high prices, poor delivery and average network, it's USP has gone. As a shareholder (and pensioner holder) I'm very sure it will recover once it gets a leader like RR has gained.
It's a company mired in politics, politics that varies in every OPCO, each of which seems to think the'yre right and the others wrong. It's fixed line element was lead by the failed management teams from Thus/Energis who failed to deliver when they were outside and inside it was just power play.
But how do we get new leadership Trello? Margherita seems determined to stay and keep picking up her handsome remuneration package. I wish I hadn't touched this dog with a barge pole but unfortunately did and am now deeply underwater. After all the rumours about a possible takeover, we end up with the fire sale Swisscom deal, which we knew about anyway and it's barely moved the dial. Maybe selling up and taking the hit is the best strategy, however unpalatable!
Yes Garonne, you are so unhappy here with vod, this is your opportunity to sell up. This opportunity might not last, so please hit the sell button 🙏
Yes, if you hold no belief the share price will go up, then to hold them is just sunk cost fallacy and would be better to sell up make your money elsewhere and come back in here when you think it will go up (or don't)
Do you think it will go up Beo?
For me there is more upside potential here than other shares I am looking at or invested in. Reward (upside on 70p) > Risk (the SP retrace's futher). So yes I'm invested here for a bit longer
Well, good luck Beo. I hope your assessment proves to be correct.
And the party's over. Back into the downward cycle. All the hope of the last week, following the rumours leak, dashed as clearly no-one wants it and with the sale of Spain and now Italy, the dividend will surely be cut. This share never ceases to disappoint. At the current rate of going, it might take years to get back up to a pound if it ever does. No doubt we'll get some more downgrades soon for good measure. Hopeless!
Perhaps Illiad offloading there investment? Pure speculation on my part, but whats the point of there investment now, clearly bought to try and hold some sway on the Italy decision.
Gutter and Garonne
If you don't like it - sell and move on!
Simple as that
Of course Divi maybe cut to reflect disposals that's to be expected. Common sense not that common. A relative divi cut would be already priced in.
Garonne, just take my advice and sell up. Your constant moaning here is just annoying.
You are so unhappy with your investment here just sell already.
With hindsight, the cue to dump this was when Margherita got the CEO job permanently.
I do not believe that Garonne is invested in VOD.....takes too much pleasure when the price goes down
Avocet. If he sold up he would have nothing to moan & Garonne about!
That's a dad joke and a half right there
It's starting to look as it if it's another bull-trap. I'm still hoping for 63.4 or so (which hasn't yet been achieved). The SP rose on the Italy hopes and now news and hopes, but is giving that up quite easily as if someone is selling into it. Could the idea that a cut to the divi would impact the SP negatively, be driving someome to sell out the rises? A divi cut does seem likely to me as 11% or so seems very high.
Tufan Erginbilgic has been buying more RR shares! Pity our incumbent CEO wouldn't do the same here. I guess she doesn't want to lose money!
