Its the Airport authorities causing the jams, not Tui or others
In the Usa yesterday 2500 flights were cancelled ,i suppose reading some of the carp on here that was due to Brexit as well ,jeez some people have some twisted logic to apply to their point of view, twisting any old nonsense to fit their narrative .
Of course, can't mention the 'B' word. Nothing bad could come of that could it? Yeah , Right Boris, of course.
Tui announcing it will cancel six flights a day until the end of June, affecting around 34,000 travellers in all.
This is disgusting.
I have a TUI cancelled holiday story too, although it’s from last year. Sharm in Egypt, all-inc: weirdly though, we got lots of emails - mainly about how some stuff in the hotel wouldn’t be running due to Covid, kids club, spa etc - all understandable at the time.
But 3 days before we were due to leave, they cancelled and refunded the lot: I scrambled to EasyJet holidays after a quick search and found an amazing place in Hurghada which we’ve been back to since.
The last minute cancellation was weird, but they didn’t offer alternatives, just the refund.
Tbh the whole travel industry is in trouble with lack of resource. It’s very widely reported now.
And listening to the English and Welsh moan about airports after they voted Brexit through is slightly thrilling, but it’s not a useful schadenfreude exercise when it’s your own holidays affected. C’est La vie. Simon calder is on record saying Brexit has affected staffing levels: international air travel has a clue in the name about where talent is sourced from.
Yesterday I heard a plan flew out of Gatwick empty because the airline pretty much had one person in the terminal and the pilots, so the pilots had to fly off empty while the passengers were left in the terminal. That’s the state of things, in varying degrees, depending on the size of the outfit. EasyJet’s IT problems don’t help. BA? Don’t get me started. They’ve crapped on their customers for decades now with a laissez-faire insolence combined with a back office incompetence which makes things even worse now!
Anyway - point of rant: air travel has a problem, it’ll take time to fix, hold if you want to see the benefit.
Good luck to all.
Never a good sign for the balance sheet when you are offering compensation which is greater than the cost of the package holiday that was booked.
Exactly, staff shortages in health and care due to brexit too.
If anybody believes majority of staff shortages are not due to Brexit they are simply wrong, its the same issue as in health and care sectors.
Also the majority of the problems Tui have is that they use Swissport to run their airport services such as check in & baggage handling and it is Swissport who are having staffing issues and without whom Tui like other airlines cannot run their flights. It is not true to say Tui have oversold its more a case that companies like Swissport have under delivered.
However , for every company in the airline industry and those closely associated if they had not massively cut costs during the pandemic we wouldnt be sitting lamenting about impact on SP as the stock like many others would have gone the way of Thomas Cook.
Tont, whereas we've NEVER had a holiday or flight cancelled in nearly 40 years with Tui. Over the last twenty years, that's at least twice a year too and lately as many as four a year.
It was disappointing that when I posted my experience last week it was met with the same scepticism as was seen after a person's experience written on here today.
I think it's very naive to not realise that people are not just reviewing their holiday.
More likely, they, the same as me are more expressing the fact that we've always trusted TUI to just get it right.
And now I'm not sure I can trust them, in the short term at the very least.
I don't want to go over my experience again, but will say whoever suggested that TUI are offering holidays they know they can't resource rung a bell with me. The day after our arrival at the resort, I checked out our original hotel, that got cancelled just two days before we were due to get there.
The gates were locked and the pool had been drained. Of course, you can probably drain a pool in a day, but it made us massively suspicious as to how long it had actually been closed.
I strongly suspect that my cancellation mail was left until 4.45pm on a Friday (we flew at Monday dinner) with the hope that I'd just accept the alternative they offered us. I'd booked the holiday at work and the car hire, after all.
Some of you may think it's just a review/moan.
It isn't. It's just making the point that if you treat people shoddily, it's going to cost you business and will not help the SP.
If that's not a relevant point and is just seen as people writing reviews, well more fool you for not wanting to consider all sides of the investment case, imo.
Oh, an update on the money they owed me.
It was refunded last week. Which is a lot better than the 10 weeks they told me it might take.
I honestly hope TUI get their problems sorted. I want to keep holidaying with them, because they've given me so many good memories over the years.
Funny how everyone is forgetting this is also a result of brexit and not having Europeans to hire. It's true. This is why we have plenty of job vacancies.
The staff aren’t there to hire or haven’t had clearance checks sorted in time. Cancelling some flights won’t deter future bookings. I’ve had plenty of flights cancelled or changed on me before. Big deal. Part of the experience of cheap cattle class aviation
So whose to blame. The Govt and various others telling the airlines to get a grip and the airlines blaming the government for being sat on potentially up to 20,000 security checks required prior to people starting work and Rishi Sunak the Chancellor trying to be the Government spokesperson
Where is Grant Shaps the Transport secretary.
Anyone taking bets he's on holiday?
Good business for Tui? People are going to avoid booking with Tui due to the fear that their holiday will be cancelled! They will go elsewhere. These problems with Tui are nothing to do with brexit , they are due to Tui getting rid of staff during Covid and not having the foresight of the demand when Covid restrictions ended. They have purposefully let people book holidays knowing they did not have the resources in place to manage those holidays. Unfortunately for Tui , their main competitor in the UK had it all covered and will therefore reap the benefit. It is ironic that Tui couldn't operate to any great extent over the last 2 years because of problems out of their hands but now it is mostly self induced problems that have come to bite them. As an investor it is worrying.
6 flights a day across the board not just Manchester. Jet2 have a different large me up demographic imo and narrower offering.
100 per cent correct analysis & assessment!
Brexit the gift that keeps on giving - feel sorry for those with holidays cancelled except for the Brexit Gammons & those who moaned about all those Eastern Europeans coming over here and taking our jobs. They’ll have to suck up passport check queues in Europe too not to mention paying to send their look at me posts on social media.
Tui cancelling some flights but nothing on scale of squeezyjet and perversly it may reflect good business for Tui as all travel commentators are repeatedly telling holidaymakers to book a package to guarantee full refund. Book own accommodation and fly Easyjet you’ll unlikely to get a refund on your villa etc and those who get burned by that may change to a package next time.
Considering bad press SP is holding up well , proves their assertion that bookings were booming!
Don’t blame TUI or even the government. Blame Joe Bloggs who wanted lockdowns and wanted Brexit and didn’t give much thought to the mess both would trigger. A few more Eastern European baggage handlers and cabin staff would help things immensely right now
TUI will be fine. What they don’t cancel will be at maximum margin. They’ll divert the planes to other markets
Tui to cancel six flights a day throughout June from Manchester alone. Thats at least 180 flights. Plus all the other cancellations from elsewhere. How many holidaymakers will have their holidays cancelled because of it? MANY! Do you think those disappointed holidaymakers will want to go with Tui again? No! They will go with another company like Jet2. Other holidaymakers will also be deterred from booking with Tui because of it and book elsewhere. Ive had first hand experience from what is happening to holidaymakers , how dissapointed they are and how negatively they now feel about Tui. And yes Tui will be liable for compensation because the cancellations are Tuis responsibility. Tui will only suffer from this , other companies will benefit. Get your act together Tui. You are ruining so many people's long awaited for holidays with no consideration for them whatsoever and as a result you will suffer in the future and that WILL have an effect on the sp without doubt.
TT I have no need or intention to call you names.
If I had the competencies to sort out TUIs issues I would not be sharing them with this board but being a consultant with the said operator.
I would however say companies at times make decisions which are not understood by the ‘normal’ investor.
PM01 Quite Puzzled by your response. it was an example that with all Airlines someone has a bad experience and it don't affect the SP. Am I really spoon feeding you this explanation?
Why not use your knowledge here and put the problems TUI are facing and the potential solution. Not a review of your holiday where it can be elsewhere.
TUI, Easyjet and BA are in Chaos with the lack of resources. While it's rubbish now due to lack of resources they will eventually be better prepared for demand with the ease of COVID. Therefore, this situation wont be forever. Also, as an investor its music to my ears that they have such demand where there is no discount.
PM01 - feel free to call me an any names under the sun or moan some more, but please for the sake of wasting time and energy just sprout useful information in regards to the forecast of this SP.
TT size of your family has no bearing on the share discussion
What's your problem @HeresHopin
I made a good profit, however if you think a share that was been lucky to trade 1-2% a day then suddenly jumps to 6% is not going to fall without buying volume then you need to read up on some basics
Joteller. Yes you was correct given in at 182p.
It is a guessing game with how the SP trades during the day, but the SP did not "Cliff Drop" like you said it's kept its 5% strong given it slips around lunch time. Given that it should now pick up.
With all the 2m trades gone threw and last week behind us hopefully it should get back to the 200's.
@hereshopin, I was chatting in this share when at @182 saying it was going to go up, and it appears I was correct.
My talk history on this share has been positive.
However you can see the 5% rise then it flat lining while the volume of sells increases, which means potential for a suddenly drop.
Joteller; I don't get where your getting the "Drop off a Cliff" from. SP always slip around this time until 13:30. I don't see it dropping anymore than it currently is. It should resume up after 13:30. So now is a good chance to load up.
But we all know here that it's a guessing game.
Looking like a cliff now, they pumped up the price to churn in the shares, now incentive to drop fast back down to gather more
