Oh stop talking of Lobster WGR - now I'm going to have to dream of getting on board my private jet and flying to the East coast of North America for a decent Lobster. Why did they have to retire Concorde? However, with a decent private jet Mach 1.8 cruising can still be achieved. Hence with the time difference I can set off at 1pm - eat my lunch on the East of Vermont at 12:30pm. And then be back in the UK in good time for bed at 10pm.
Cereus you really shouldn't worry about burning fossil fuels. Don't you know that plants convert carbon dioxide back into oxygen? Hence really every time you take a flight or drive a Ferrari you are making all the plants in the world a little happier as you are making it a little easier for them to live and to grow.
Don't take things so seriously cereus!
I was just pointing out that you got a cheap price given the costs involved in producing those potatoes and making them available to you. And I hope you enjoyed them. Very happy that you got a good price!
I agree WGR that there seems far too little farming going on in the UK. France seems much more active in terms of food production - ergo it is no surprise the food seems better quality (and no more expensive) in France.
I agree with you cereus Tesco is a good company and a big employer full stop, Aldi-Lidl low in product and low in staff.
I don't understand your point, It was a very small bag of Jersey Royals I bought , and a treat I look forward to every year , although they do not taste as good as they used to , due to a different variety now . I am sure they were not as environmentally damaging , if that is your point , as say asparagus from Peru , or apples from New Zealand ! What do you want the farmers to do on Jersey , if not produce world beating crops to make a living .Let me have some pleasure in life. Incidentally have you ever tasted Jersey Milk from dare I say it Jersey cows ? Wow!
So what was the cost Cereus of ploughing the field, planting those seed potatoes, fertilising them, waiting for them to grow, suffering some losses due to pests/weather, harvesting them, washing them, packaging them, and hiring lorries to transport them to your local supermarket, and paying the Tesco staff also to ensure nobody stole them before Cereus could buy those Jersey Royal potatoes - also if you're in the North of England think how much more the transport costs would be for those potatoes if they came all the way from the South of England (where I believe fruit and veg grow the best).
So, Cereus, how much did it cost to produce that bag of potatoes and to store it until the customer bough it?

This can either go £1.50 or below or £2.50 and above whilst we're in this current political climate of uncertainty. It's now a coin flip share. Be bold and hold or f8*k it and chuck it.
Really believe in this saturated market that one of the big four will be squeezed out. All it'll take is Amazon to poke around and Tesco will lose another 20p.
Interesting times ahead..
Only words needed I’m afraid
My wife and I did our weekly shop at our local Tesco , and as usual got everything we wanted for the week ahead , including Jersey Royal potatoes , which came in at 49p per bag, a special treat ! I cannot understand why our shares continue to get a beating , Tesco are without a doubt the finest supermarket in this Country . It is time we all supported them , otherwise we end up Aldi and LIDL , yuck! All in my honest opinion ,and stated for political correctness .
Hi, please could someone explain in simple terms why this SP is falling? thanks, Colin.
Kantar produced a report that Tesco's market share had reduced, Lidl and Aldis had risen thus the city reacted by reducing Tesco's price. Mind you I'm pretty sure Kantar do this every 12 weeks to Tesco, it's always getting a battering from somewhere whether by its own foolishness or some other entity. Weird share
Margin is too small for that to work with items people want i am afraid

Would have expected at least a 10% fall given the latest numbers. Tesco’s cannot maintain market share despite spending a fortune on their stores. Unless they are able to reduce prices (something they are reluctant to do) this will continue. Maybe another 5% off tomorrow?
What a drop! holy sheet. I still think £2.50 is about right a price for Tesco, missed it last time but wow its took a hell of a beating today.
Hold on to your hats the Tesco rollercoaster can end up anywhere.
SOS! Get Charles back in ASAP.
As posted before, the UK is now going post-retail.
The Germans continue to beat the Brits. New Kantar figures today show Aldi and Lidl surging at 9-11%, with Tesco losing more marketshare and barely growing till roll at 0%.
Think of Tesco and Sainsbury's as British Leyland -- lumbering giants stumbling toward extinction, due to snail management, overpricing, and low productivity. Death by a thousand Aldi and Lidl cuts.
WGR What are gonna do with 25 packs of spaghetti? Oh, of course.... feed your captives locked in your basement....
Have to agree. I can remember being tempted by this stock in its glory days but something kept me back then came its downfall. I know plenty of ex-Tesco managers some of who got a good deal but others got bullied out and that's the new Tesco, I believe. Still shop there but it isn't what it used to be by a long way.
Retail is a no-go IMO. I made some profit from Ocado but I don't like the tie-up with M&S so I shan't go back there for a while. There are other fish in the sea.
Ongoing political turmoil can only see this share contract further, no idea where a boost in price will come from. I Have a few shares so will be holding, but this entire sector is being squeezed and if I was investing now I'd be nowhere near retail, it sucks. And if you get a chance have a word with the staff, not a happy bunch constantly on edge as drastic nears the end of his 5 year plan. More cuts and more job losses are coming and unless he has something up his sleeve then this share remains on rocky ground.
Increase or decrease in the next month ?????
Mind you the whole sector looks battered. Hey ho.
Ha, should've sold the other week, still think its a £2.50 share will hold on for another month or so see if it realigns itself at somewhere past my £2.50 target point.
Tesco moving away from club card points and taking inspiration from Amazon Prime 's member discounts . Special months/days of Club card member only discount prices, 15%-20% off 200 products. Very interesting. Will that lock in a more loyal customer base? Maybe..
You could try taking the label off your next tin of Tesco baked beans and posting it to her.... lol
Next week Tesco celebrates it's 100th birthday. Just received an email saying all clubcard members will be getting special discounts to celebrate as from Monday (06-05-19)
