No worries Chatmandu.
I used to never look at the financials too closely. These days, I cant help but go through the balance sheet with a fine tooth comb. It was all gobbledygook before, but after some study it all started to make sense. The effort to learn how to read balance sheets is an invaluable skill in trading imo.
Charts, fundamentals, and risk management, are a potent combination. I woudnt skip on anyone these days
True, its good check the data against another source, and I verify the screening data against google finance's data if I have any doubts about the accuracy of the data. Somtimes I even read through the finanical reports! That used to bore me to tears once upon a time. Now I enjoy it. lol
PGM’s. Excuse my typo
@marineclark
A word of caution regarding stock screening. I used to use one on telegraph.co.uk that was provided by AJ Bell. A company that came up in my screens wasn't familiar and I discovered that it had gone private some years before. It turned out the feed was completely broken and hadn't been updated for a *very* long time. It took a lot of back and forth with AJ Bell for them to even understand the issue. Once the penny dropped, they pulled the screener entirely.
Make sure you double check any data to make sure it's correct.
Thanks Luna Nera. I do enjoy reading the posts on this chat site, are so many thoughtful and knowledgeable people on here. I’m relatively new to trading and it is great to keep picking up the nuggets of information and positivity. Choosing PG ends as one of my first forays into this world maybe was a bit risky. I have time to let this grow. Good to see Rh on the up again.

We are in the 80's because Markets are inefficient in the short term. In the long term, they tend to price things correctly.
Or, as Ben Graham once quipped: "In the short term, the (stock) market is a voting machine, in the long term it is a weighing machine".
Patience.
That was the reason I got into SLP. I used the Zulu growth screen as a starter..I’ve since copied and tweaked it for my own purposes. SLP just popped off that set of filters for time being but still on my own set !
Sigh!!, Only reason SLP has been dropping is because of Rhodium price has dropped (That has bottomed out now) if you compare the 2 graphs they are almost identical. The reason rhodium price dropped is because of the less demand in automotive industry due to chip shortage, so as soon as the micro chip supply is restored car industry will start full scale manufacturing and demand of rhodium will increase so do the SLP share price. So keep buying its not too long before SLP will be back to where it dropped.
marine,
i "try" and use yahoo finance stock screening, the problem is with it is that the metrics are a bit wierd, some of the estimates of fwd pe, price just dont make a lot of sense but generally a good source
stock screening does work in fact picking stuff up that the mags also state is quite easy
IC, stocks dont move down in a straight line and neither do they go up in a straight line. SLP has been falling slowly for the last 5 months, and it looks like the price is turning, there are techinal signs this is happening. I expect 3- 6 months to go back to 150P+. Just top while you can, thats what I would do, if all my sparecash wasnt already in this:)
Chatmandu,
I meant the mention of the stockopedia website in FIsh's post. I subscribe to IC for the small cap tips and for stocks to put on my watchlist, but I'd much rather do my own stock screening using my own filtering critera. I was experimenting with Yahoo finance for stock screening but the tools on there are too basic for my needs. Stockopedia, just from the brief time playing around with it since registering yesterday, offers sophiscated stock screening tools and comprehensive stock reports on every good stock out there. Its not free, but if I can find a few quality stocks to invest in, using it, it will pays for itself in no time. Still learning how to use it, but IMO its a great research tool.
Rhodium is ticking up, ever so slightly. Share price drops nearly 5%. It is so hard to understand this stock... Long term hold but how can we still be in the 80's?
@marineclark
Is there a missing post from Fishysaurus, that links to the stock screen, or are you referring to the original post?
@stoodio
British (all country's?) Police forces attract completely the wrong type of people. They're pathologically insecure and *demand* respect, whilst behaving like thugs and bullies. I've had a couple of encounters and I quickly realised they're not in the public's side. The entire enterprise is completely self serving.
Fishysaurus, your post is the best I come across in my entire history of using this site, and that is no overstatement. The stockpedia was just what I've been looking for in ages, and it has already proved its use. SLP is rated as a high quality, high value share. Currently momentum is contrarion because the stock is currently in half a downtrend, lowers lows did not happen, but we are on the verge of breaking through the downtrend line. But that also means this is a superb opportunity to buy a cheap, high quality, high value share. Once momentum increases, this will be sitting at 150p+. I will be thanking those who choose to buy at 150p instead , because that will be when I will be taking some profits.
tiger, having spent 15-20 years of my life in london (love that city - big city boy here, albeit a mountain / snow man at heart - yeah I know so i chose the f*kin desert!!) but no, spending 180 days in UK? No thanks. I'd had enough of getting royally f88ked in the asssss in every which way by the **** show of the HMRC and political powers that be on all sides of the spectrum. All useless self serving s c u m.
Taxed through the ears both on personal income, and signing away profits of a business i built from the ground up year on year - was HMRC the one running the business until 3am every other day for 10 years? Why should they get a cut of my corporate profits? What part did they play? And still getting stop searched (back in the day) for looking a bit rough with a hoodie on. Nah bruv, was done with all that horses hit. Public transport systems that are unfit for purpose, every rising rail fares, cancelled trains due to a leaf on the track. Knives flying around, and into, the backs of people during broad daylight? F**k that noise. I'd has enough. Paid my dues and was getting nothing in return.
P.S The stop search was funny. 3 am leaving work one day, stubble and hoodie. A dark horse - albeit an award winning creative director doing alright :) Stopped by the old bill for (totally profiling me) and asking what I did. "Run an award winning branding agency guv".... "oh yeah, business good is it?...."you better hope so bruv I pay your wages".
Needless to say. That didn't go down too well :) Spent some time in a charing cross police cell too 1 night for sticking a middle finger up at a meat wagon after it practically ran over my foot (literally skimmed by toes) at a zebra crossing when i was half way across. Wagon screeches to a halt, 7 armed police pull out throw me in the back of the wagon and off I went for a cosy night on the concrete.
Broken britain. You can have it :)
i know your in dubai, but dont you have that tax free deal where you can still spend 180 days ish in uk and keep uk status and still tax free ?
i'm thinking of working in that part of the world so would be interested to know
do you still have uk citizenship ? (dont have to answer that)
tiger, nope. got told to f**k off entirely because of my resident status. I.e no longer having any part to play in the UK.
i only have 3 large holdings, aoi, slp, ths, only ths lacking but they are having a good day and that will come good
as eric sprott once said, get in early and get in big is the way to make great money (which is what you did with slp, i joined at 30p)
didnt you get transferred to interactive investor like the rest of us ?
can buy tsx stuff easily, its higher on trading fees but who cares as i dont trade that much
aoi has 1300+ followers on fbook (mainly swedes), and yes is a remarkable company indeed
sorry yeah you mentioned the platform :)
tiger what platform bro? I did look at it last time you mentioned it and it's quite startling - you're not f**king about. I would have bought in there and then but realised I don't have access to the TSX anymore since getting f**ked by TD Waterhouse and being a non-domiciled res. will take another look.
this might be one of those rare days (about as often as a meteorite hitting earth) where number of trades in tharisa > slp, dont think will quite happen but could
usually there are more posts than trades over there (i am a holder)
tsx and stockholm stoodio, if you are interested i'll answer any questions prob best over on advfn aoi board
i bloody wish you had bought in the summer at $1.20, as with slp better to build really low, but its your money and you know what your talking about so maybe just take a look
share buybacks and dividend coming q4/q1 2022, not official but mentioned few times recently by ceo
tiger where is it listed bud?
it is chat, i screened out a lot of tsx stocks over the weekend, incl eric nuttalls top picks in his portfolio, and none compare to AOI. I think being a fund manager he might be constrained / waiting for them to hit the magic 1 billion value, who knows
the latest dividend release (75mill) to AOI seems to have focused value.
i very rarely tip stuff for other people but this one, back when it was $1.20 in the late summer, today will be nearer $2, was a bit obvious, but its one of those shares (and think tharisa will be very similar) that chugs along the flatline for ages before the mkt realises....
it has all the hallmarks of slp except has huge exploration upside. very high fcf, low mkt cap, very well run, and in a great current mkt, all very very similar to slp
it will consolidate lower because as you say, been on a tear, and will prob add when it gets there
