Comment several minutes ago from Terry Pullinger outside the High Court: (not a direct quote) even if we win today this is not going away...we will carry on fighting...there will always be something else. You lot just don't get it do you: without the consensus of the CWU this is going nowhere...absolutely nowhere. And just to show how the company is now starting to backtrack I have been informed, as of last night, that RMG is now willing to offer Voluntary Redundancy to anyone with over twenty years service and only a couple of years to go before retirement. The last offer was two years full pay plus an enhanced pension -- thats a lot of dosh!! A change in attitude? You bet ya! A couple of weeks ago even this was regarded as just fanciful pie in the sky. Not anymore it would seem. Wonder what else they might start backtracking on? Whichever way...it is all going to cost a lot of money.
Good idea if true get rid of any old timers NOW! that are MILITANT!
Apologies for coming in late on this subject - just picked up my phone at the end of my shift and noticed this.
"RMG is now willing to offer Voluntary Redundancy to anyone with over twenty years service and only a couple of years to go before retirement".
That's bizarre as only 4 months ago Rico assured us that the headcount would be managed through "natural wastage".
Crikey! If that's true then my mail centre/retirement home could be emptying out soon!!
Under the MTSF (managing the surplus framework) agreement anyone offered VR with over 20 years service is entitled to two years pensionable pay, so an OPG on £30k will get £30k plus if under 65 will get an enhanced (made up) pension. This means that if you are in the "golden zone" (over 55/under 65 with 20+ years service) it could be very appealing, however as already pointed out this could cost RM a fortune as 3000 employees could cost £100m+.
Surely it can't be true?
Oligarch, this signals the next cut in the dividend. 60 grand a pop times 10 thousand gives £600 million.
oli look at the future.... anyone who wants to go let them go.... sick of hearing people I work with saying they hate the place..... new and fresh employees will pull that loss back within 3yrs..... lets see the ones that take vr find a similar job with the same t&cs they have already? just a thought
1. Who gets £30k a year pensionable pay.
2. Paying 2 years pensionable pay up front would save 2 years full pay over the next 2 years so no need for a divi cut.
26 weeks pay + enhanced pension if in last 2 years before taken pension with 20+ years, at least 50% of that enhancement would be paid by govt as took on the finale salary pension.
Oggie 26 week's pay? Where did you hear that?
Before 55 it is cheaper for rm to pay the max 104 weeks, you have to do the ready recliner to see.
200iq, at 16:35 you posted;
1. Who gets £30k a year pensionable pay?
Answer - your average OPG gets circa £27k plus pensionable allowances for shift work which brings most up to around c£30k+. Some of our drivers regularly smash £35k without breaking sweat.
2. Paying 2 years pensionable pay up front would save 2 years full pay over the next 2 years so no need for a divi cut.
Answer - you are correct but there are additional costs involved in replacing, training and retaining new employees. Yes, over the next 5 to 10 years it might work but by then our competitive edge would be most likely lost?
Oggie that's the problem. It would cost RM a Kings Ransom to let all the old militant buggers go on VR.
Yes, long term but who will pay? From the finale salary (govt)?
Hang on I was one of those old etc, lol
ispy read this from a fellow employee.........oligarch" your average OPG gets circa £27k plus pensionable allowances for shift work which brings most up to around c£30k+. Some of our drivers regularly smash £35k without breaking sweat." what are you striking for?... unskilled employees earning that amount..... if that was me I would keep my mouth shut and take home the pay before someone realizes.... just a thought....
I don't get anything like 30k pensionable pay.
My shift payment isn't pensionable
Wolves, drivers are not classed as "unskilled workers" as they have some big responsibilities.
I think that £35k is quite cheap for a class1 HGV driver.
200iq, my shift allowance is pensionable as is my overtime and Sunday duty :-)
You must be on a later contract?
Not sure. It used to be pensionable but I think I lost it in the way forward. What shift are you on?
oli … driving a hgv is a responsible job so is a posties but skilled???.... to me a skill is something you achieve ie through uni degree plus intensive training over a long period.... you can get class one a lot quicker and if from abroad you can get one easier and do the job..... sorry if you think I might be argumentative but its true mate.... 35k for 38hrs pw driving? I know some hgv1s that do 50hrs pw+ for that
oli I am a skilled posty.... where can I take that skill? like the skilled opgs in royal mail... where else can they take that skill if its a skill? I know you didn't say an opg was a skill but 27K per annum? need to get in real world they do...
we are now bearing the fruit of mr blairs minimum wage...… everyone just wants to pay the minimum now.... welcome to the real world... cwu backed the minimum wage as well as the rest of the unions..... and all its doing is eroding all the previous t&cs unions fought for because companies now want and will pay the bare minimum and not breaking the law....
