I'll add my twopenny worth to the conversation by sayingI think that's right, Kickboxer. MTR's % holding will mean they won't be dragged in a direction they don't want to go, as they were with MOD. I imagine the strategy will be to drill as many holes as it takes to prove the worth of the licences held , or such of them as they want to dispose of at any particular time. I'm sure they'll want to avoid spending money on planning a mine and then having to dispose of relatively unexplored territory only to find that what they didn't know about was likely more valuable than what they did know about! Hopefully we can rely on MTR to extract maximum value from the KML holding when the time is right.
Hi KB, here are my thoughts. It is probably not the right time to float KML on a stock market at the moment. I would imagine that some of the bigger players will be closely watching SFR and developments on the A4 Dome. What would be attractive would be a take out of KML by one of the bigger players once something of interest is drilled. MTR would then retain the 2% NSR, presumably take equity instead of cash as they did with SFR. MTR could then leverage up the equity using a similar collar derivative facility that they arranged on the SFR transaction. This would a win win for MTR as they would not have to finance the project and would retain exposure through equity and the Royalty. On Cupric I don’t think so. Botswana would not want the concentration of licences with one entity. They need to ensure a spread and encourage other majors to take an interest to benefit and diversify the economy. At some point it would not surprise me if one of the majors took out SFR. Time will tell.
Just to get a bit of conversation going, what are people’s thoughts on Kalahari metals and the Tiger’s involvement? Are we looking at KML being bought out and MTR keeping their royalty as part of the sale plus cash and shares ? Is this the way to go or are there better ways?
Can we see a time in the future where Cupric or someone else tries to buy up all the licences in Botswana, and at what price? It’s proving to be an area where there is copper, how badly do the majors want it?
