Botswana Diamonds outlines Marange mining plans 16 hrs ago |
Aim-listed Botswana Diamonds (BOD) on Friday shared details of its areas of focus and strategy for the near future.
This includes the ramp-up of its South African Marsfontein operation, which produced its first diamonds from gravels and residual stockpiles last week.
The company intends to start a pilot production plant in the Marange area of Zimbabwe, restore production at Thorny River, in South Africa, while exploring for blows on the ground and identifying drill targets at Central Kalahari, in Botswana.
The company also expects to unlock opportunities at the Maibwe project, in Botswana.
During the financial year ended June 30, BOD's initial focus had been on the Thorny River kimberlite dyke system which hosts former mines Klipspringer and Marsfontein.
Both mines were discovered on the dyke system in the area.
Dykes are often narrow, maybe a metre wide or less. A blow is where the dyke balloons out to a size capable of being mined as a conventional openpit operation.
Marsfontein's blow was such a rich source of diamonds that the capital expenditure was recovered in less than four days.
The Marange area of Zimbabwe has, in recent years, produced large quantities of diamonds.

Sandfire Resources America confirms resource increase at Johnny Lee
Sandfire Resources America (SFR.V) has released an updated resource estimate on the Johnny Lee zone which is part of the company’s Black Butte copper project in Montana. Johnny Lee is formed by two separate mineralized zones (conveniently called the Upper Copper Zone and Lower Copper Zone) which are being permitted for production.
The updated resource now contains 10.9 million tonnes of rock in the measured and indicated resource categories with an additional 2.7 million tonnes at a 3% copper grade in the inferred resource category. On a combined basis, Johnny Lee now hosts approximately 800 million pounds of copper in an underground mine, a scenario where ASX-listed parent company Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR) has plenty of experience considering its successful construction and operation of the DeGrussa mine in Australia.
The previous Preliminary Economic Assessment completed by the company is already 6.5 years old and perhaps it would be a good idea for SFR to consider putting out an updated study.
have a small stake in TSX:IMR iMetal Resources Certainly looks interesting with those drill results.

Dave Gamble, P. Geo and QP, commented "Initial visual results from this first hole targeted a strong high resistivity and high chargeability IP anomaly. This anomaly correlates extremely well with the hydrothermal altered meta-sedimentary sequence and associated pyrite mineralization seen in this drill hole. We look forward to drill testing the other significant IP anomalies currently identified on the Gowganda West property."

THE Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) should be spared ongoing load shedding by power utility, Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), a government official said.
Speaking while officially opening the All Stakeholders Diamond Indaba held in Mutare this past week, Minister of State for Manicaland province, Ellen Gwaradzimba, said the parastatal was a major source of revenue for the country.

Mnangagwa says small miners pivotal for achieving US$12 billion industry
Zanu Pf Youths Scramble For Food At Mining Indaba
ZANU PF supporters, who were bussed to the mining indaba in Gweru to beef up numbers ahead of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's address on Wednesday, caused a raucous at feeding points as they threatened to run away with the delegates' food if they continued to be denied access to lunch.
Anti-riot police had to called in to quell the restive crowd.
In a bid to avoid the embarrassment of addressing empty chairs at crucial events like what happened at previous events in Harare and Mashonaland Central, the Zanu PF Midlands provincial leadership took a decision to bus its supporters from all districts to fill up the Gweru Convention Centre, where Mnangagwa was guest speaker.
Midlands State University students, college students and mothers with babies on their backs as well as the elderly were also bussed to the venue that was supposed to be purely a formal business meeting of mine owners and government officials, among other stakeholders.
The situation degenerated into chaos as the Zanu PF supporters occupied front seats with delegates, who had paid for the two-day event and those accredited, failing to get comfortable places inside the venue.
During lunch time, the Zanu PF supporters clogged VIP delegates' feeding points and riot police had to be called in to crush the restive activists who were clad in party regalia.
However, Dosman Mangisi, the Zimbabwe Mining Federation spokesperson said there was nothing wrong with what Zanu PF did at the event. https://mining.einnews.com/article/501594500?lcf=-9uuuS1RcYoZrhlmc6j2lA%3D%3D

Sandfire Resources (ASX: SFR)
Although focused on copper, Sandfire Resources has exposure to silver via its recent acquisition of MOD Resources, which owned the T3 copper-silver project.
Sandfire now wholly-owns the T3 and exploration tenements in the Kalahari copper belt spanning more than 11,000sq km.
A feasibility study was published on T3 in late March and indicated an initial 11.5-year operation that would process 3.2Mt of ore per annum with an average copper grade of 1% and silver grade of 13.2g/t.
Annual silver production is estimated at 1.1Moz.
Inclusive of the primary copper product, the study forecasts life of mine revenue of US$2.3 billion.
Sandfire is also earning a 70% interest in White Rock Mountain’s Red Mountain project in central Alaska.
The project is prospective for VMS mineralisation which includes an inferred resource of 9.1Mt at 5.8% zinc, 2.6% lead, 157g/t silver and 09g/t gold.
Sandfire’s exploration budget for Red Mountain exceeds $8 million for 2019.
Investment in metals exploration company Adriatic Metals Plc (ASX: ADT) and formation of a strategic partnership under which Adriatic will have access to Sandfire's significant technical expertise to advance Adriatic's high-quality exploration and development portfolio in Bosnia Herzegovina.
