I think a progressive dividend should provide a support level here(assuming no market meltdown) so I'm happy to be patient. I suppose we've got to be . The risks seem well spread.

Welcome to Mercia land, realistically it has been forever thus.
Meanly priced below a rising NAV
Lemons ripen before plums !
At least MERC are honest about not always being right about the businesses they support. At this level there will always be a few 'dogs'. Just so long as the winners win big MERC can and will go places.
Just noticed Boards telling us LocateBio has 4 ornithological products (top of this thread). As a seasoned Zeiss user I’m intrigued.
An upbeat statement on current trading from their AGM in todays RNS.
Not earth shattering but upbeat.
I’d probably have a bet on sense at the right price if that was possible as their Veros device has potential. I appreciate it’s a platform that can be adapted for testing various health problems, not just covid, but I haven’t seen any proof of sales as yet.

Thx for your reply, I did misunderstand what you meant by outlier ! One thing I would say with Sensebio is that it is not just a 1 trick covid pony, their system works very well in oncology and in boring things like flu detection which is usually a very big market.
Changes at the top are disturbing, admittedly, but I'm sure this plc has legs.
Axis Spine is really interesting and is being supported by US surgeons who specialse in spines, which gives me real hope for a sale at some time fairly soon.
But a lot of dogs lurk in the MERC kennels, though it's true to say that lemons ripen before plums....
Hi barchid, I meant Oxgene was an outlier in terms of the quality of info submitted to Companies House. Their accounts were public listed annual report standard, whereas 95% of the time you get an out of date, unaudited balance sheet which is neither use nor ornament.
I’ve followed Sense Bio for a year and a half. Their covid test has potential but they’re rather missing the boat. After two raises assisted by big talk from the CEO he was demoted. I’m not sure what the problem is - getting US authorisation or scaling up perhaps, but something has definitely been amiss. The Merc portfolio only has about 1% so it won’t move the dial much either way but if you’re involved via your EIS it’s still worth the punt. The niggling thing about covid tests for me is this. With the government now following a herd immunity strategy, who really gives a Castlemaine XXXX about testing? I don’t agree with their strategy but logically the more people who get covid the better. Disclaimer: I haven’t had covid and haven’t been tested so have no direct personal experience of the worth of testing. A friend tested positive by PCR yesterday (1 day for results) after two negative ten minute lateral flow tests. Sense Bio’s device has the benefit of rapid PCR testing so could disrupt lateral flow testing subject to price.

You are indeed diligent with your research, although tbh Oxford Genetics was not really an outlier, all owners of it were aware of the huge potential, the only problem with it was Woodford's involvement.
Happily I do have locatebio in my funds but there are 2 others that you might want to look at which I believe are even better bets than Locatebio ;
I would be most interested in hearing your thoughts on Sense Biodetection & also Axis Spine Technologies (previously Bridging Bone) which seem to be better prospects than Locatebio. Also they have been marked up in estimated value rather more than Locate, though we do not know the price this latest funding in locate was at.
I’ve researched a dozen listed private equity plays, and the charts since March 2020 are remarkably similar, suggesting we’re fashionable. A first for me.
It’s difficult trying to delve into portfolios to sort the wheat from the chaff and the limited, out of date info at Companies House isn’t much help. Oxgene was definitely an outlier. Their CH published accounts were exemplary, demonstrating their ambition and class.
The clip made me laugh out loud. If only the Bravura were that good!
BOUK - This is the advantage to small investors of a co like ours. Some of their invs do not work out but many do and they are exciting start-ups we would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate. I only have a tiny % of my portfolio here but it makes sense. I have a bit more in IPO and look what is happening there!
If Locate Bio was listed, I'd go for a direct investment myself.
Still, an indirect investment through Merc is not so bad.
@Scharnhorst
Haven't been Somerset way for a while, but will certainly stop-off when next in that area. Ref. the headphones, I think these guy's have beaten to them market : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UJ9K8lMxPA&list=RDCMUC3gNmTGu-TTbFPpfSs5kNkg&start_radio=1&rv=-UJ9K8lMxPA&t=16 Electrostatic is obviously not without it's pro's & con's.
You seemed such a stable fellow Boards. Has the ending of covid restrictions stimulated more trips to Mudgley?
Warwick are announcing a new brand of headphones shortly - Bravura. An electrostatic D-cup over each ear. We can take the plunge without baulking at the price.
I imagine that if the product trials are positive then LocateBio would be a prime target to be snapped up by a larger pharma/medical implants/surgical instruments company.
https://locatebio.com/ This company looks interesting. 4 main ornithological products. Merc will be funding the LDGraft product through the FDA approval process.
Good direct investment portfolio addition, with life changing products.
@ OBNW
Apologies for my blatant ramping, but I feel this share offers a solid future return.
Merc has lacked investor appreciation of late, but the numbers and the investments speak for themselves (metaphorically speaking / speaking metaphorically). NB. - They don't have a larynx and so rely on visual interpretation.
I am not the only one who believes MERC's disclosed NAV is rather historical and conservative. Pleased I backed my hunch.
My mental image is rug muncher....
Conjours up a wonderful mental image. Made me smile
Chew Chew ... ! :) - Onomatopoeia choice questionable.
I suppose there aren't that many people I know who make a sound like a train when they eat . But for those that do .. Choo Choo...!
