Has anyone noticed how many on this chat site appear to take delight in the perceived misfortunes of others, especially if it involves the EU. We tend to use the German word schadenfreude to describe this most negative of emotions. There was once an English word in use - 'epicaricacy'. As we're no longer in the EU, do you think we might go back to it?
Wanderingon
Your children's generation will rejoin the EU.
In the early 2030's imo
Hope so mick-b. They're banking on it for their childrens, my grandchildrens, sakes.

wishful thinking - try to get on with a reality.
Lti
Found myself agreeing with you lately.
Where's my doctor's number
Brixton,
"Where's my doctor's number"
Not a doctor you need, it is a Psychiatrist.
4 o'clock club will laugh at that . You are know outside your own village. X

I'm fine with reality Lti. Shaping the future is part of that reality. My experience is that people in general (not you) are shifting to a more balanced view of our country's position in the world. Please try to accept that your view of reality may not be wholly shared by others. I accept yours. Just don't wholly agree with it.
wan
''Please try to accept that your view of reality may not be wholly shared by others.''
Reality - 'the state of things as they actually exist'
The reality is that the UK is not in the EU
Lti - I know the UK isn't in the EU. It's been in the news. I've tended to see you as a reasonable person on this chat site. Are you intentionally trying to belittle me in some way?
Let me clarify things for you - you and I stand 10ft apart looking at an object neither of us has seen before. Is your 'reality' of it the same as mine? Well, it isn't because we have different perspectives. Ask a traffic policeman about witness statements - all different because of different perspectives.
Reality - "The state of things as they actually exist". A dictionary definition. Are you the one who decides how things actually exist, or would you admit to other perspectives"? Please, make an effort, try to see things from a different perspective. You don't have to agree with it.
Wan
People can create their own reality based on their perceptions, but it does not mean that their perceptions are based on facts.
Lti - I agree, perceptions need not be based on facts. Although we often use facts to justify our perceptions. When we do this we tend to be selective in which 'facts' to choose. Let me clarify with another example:
Fact - The UK left the EU
Perception - it was a good or bad thing to leave the EU. Here it depends on which information one chooses to justify one's position.
All i ask of you is to acknowledge the legitimacy of perceptions different to yours. You don't have to agree with other perceptions. I can do this. If you can't, we'll just leave it at that.
called.......conformation bias
wan
''All i ask of you is to acknowledge the legitimacy of perceptions different to yours''
but you earlier said -
''Please try to accept that your view of reality may not be wholly shared by others.''
Perception is NOT reality, but a persons perception may be their reality in their own mind.
Thanks mick-b. Lti - personal perceptions are always ones reality, but it's still possible to see and acknowledge others' views. I give up on you. Goodnight!
wan
''personal perceptions are always ones reality''
but perception is not reality .
yes, anyone can have their own views, like some have the view that 'the UK would join the EU if a vote took place tomorrow'.
My perception is that is complete nonsense
wand
"I give up on you"
Patience and humility are practised here. Surely you've noticed?
lti
"a persons perception may be their reality in their own mind"
will be their reality, etc.
