Fraser probably figuring out there is too much to do here to get profitable again and they don’t want to be Phoenix’s way out, unless it is a bargain. Get the market cap well under 10m and they may make an offer.
But why buy a pile of headache anyway?
Remain cautious in our outlook due to the natural challenges facing a business in turnaround, debt lot higher, revenue down, loss making interesting c if fraser adds too its holding in due course on drop

£100 mil market cap lol, I think it's one of the most overvalued stocks on the market and now it's way overvalued but all these quick buck merchants will write any old tosh to try and make a quick buck
Should be £100m market cap
Looks like Frasers are buying more here
Should finish the week over 60p
Mike Ashley the Elon musk of retail. Everything he touches turns to gold!!
It would seem we are heading rapidly towards a more sensible 60p valuation.
I would be surprised if we didn’t see a full on bid for Hornby. After all it’s cheap and cheerful at this level.
The potential for the name worldwide is huge in the right hands. And it seems the right hands are starting to take a firm grip on the shares.
Frasers stake building significant news. With such a low market cap and very little free float could get pretty perky here.

Someone bought 30,000 shares yesterday and another someone 5,000 today
Im wondering if see some turn around due to Christmas sales, and making inroads to reducing old stock. Old stock sales is money in the bank. (I dont know how much the free Christmas tree cost them, orders over £100, but mine looks great)
Hoping for better news next report

And so if a lot is, my Iphone is made in China, doesnt seem to effect Apple..
@LondonMarket
Likely catching a cold just simply as a result of the general economic market downturn post covid. Trouble is the financial institutions always want someone to blame. Kohler going is of course a loss to this business.
@Veteran10
I really like your idea about video games, you should email it to the board. They need to innovate with new ideas and expand into new lines for sure otherwise they will just sink further as cheap train set tat just floods the market and Hornby seen as just being a very expensive provider for historic collectors
My very first thought when I saw Kohler had quit/resigned was major red flag. 100% he was either asked to resigned or asked to make a major change to his role which resulted in him resigning. (in my opinion)
TT:120 was his baby and he 'owned' that product from the moment it was announced. One can only conclude that TT:120 has failed whatever internal targets/promises Kohler made to his bosses. Possibly the problems reach even wider than TT:120.
Obviously this is only my opinion but its crystal clear to me that something very bad has gone on behind the scenes leading to this major change. Remember, Kohler was THE face of Hornby in recent years.
Interesting to note having just watched Sams Trains on YouTube that there’s possibly more to the story than Simon Kohler simply retiring and was possibly pushed out instead. With TT:120 his baby makes me wonder if there’s any issues ..any thoughts anyone.

A smaller competitor called Dapol, manufactures in the U.K. I believe. Hornby should rationalise the scales of it's various brands and products over a period of time, when it has to make new tooling for it's moulds. Some of the old tooling for the Airfix model railway products(now possibly 40/50 years old) was bought by Dapol ages ago and is still being used by them. Why produce Airfix aircraft in mainly 1:72 scale, Hornby British railway and Oxford road transport models in 1:76 scale and European Rivarossi, Jouef etc. in 1:87 scale? Who is going to put a 1:72 scale model alongside a 1:87 scale one? The answer is, that is because the adult market wants it but it should not apply to the children's market, which is what Hornby should be cultivating for the future.
Bit of flirting with the Government, in particular with key members who claim to be anti-china and you'd have a strong case for collaboration on bringing this kind of manufacturing back to UK.
But at the end of the day money talks and it won't be cheap to get this done
I disagree. With the correct leadership, these things can be overcome. They just lack the will.
All these companies that tossed their manufacturing capability to random Chinese outfits were insane.
Hornby have nobody left who knows the processes to make injection moulds, tampo printing, electronics, etc. It would cost them millions and several years to re-establish here, and they don't have that kind of cash.
They couldn't sub-contract it to a UK producer as there aren't any. Possibly the plastic kits could be done here sub-contract, but even then, nobody in UK wants to pack kit sprues into a box for minimum wage all day.
Bit of a conundrum for all low value low volume industries wanting to reshore. We'll have to stay friends with China for a bit longer. Lets just hope they don't invade Taiwan and get sanctioned.
Bring production back to uk ASAP, improve moulding system, advertise as uk product this would then fly. China bad spot to be associated with. Come On HRN do the right thing.

Hornby have emailed wholesalers telling them prices are going up 10% because of increased shipping costs from China. Not going to go down well.
HRN have written to retailers to raise prices 10% as shipping issues, costs and commodities eat into margins.
China ports are getting in a bit of a mess. Covid slowing down Yan Tian and ships getting delayed by weeks, eventually months. Christmas stock may get effected.
Investors should prepare for the RNS advising of shipping delays hitting guidance here.

Another company that is amply demonstrating how everyone is spending their lockdown time!
This is a great company.
A sister company as far as the main shareholder - Phoenix - is concerned is Stanley Gibbons. They too have had investment from Phoenix that should bring about major sales growth - see hyperlink: www.1c-magenta.com
First profit for many years. Only another 15 years of those profit levels and they'll get back what they lost in the last 4 years.
This share isn't going to set the world alight with the volume of shares traded, but some nice big buys have gone through over the last few days ready for the Final Results that should be posted this month. Perhaps a Trading Update too?

Wow what a move. Did not see that coming. Take care at this level though. If they manage to turn in a profit of £1m net, the PE will be over 100.
Games Workshop a more solid bet on the covid hobby recovery, now that HRN is at these levels.
I have a loft full of Hornby O gauge , some quite early ones , the grandchildren are mesmerised by them , I think the comment of families in lockdown reconnecting with old toys and happier times will boost this Company still further .I also have a lot of early Meccano which the five year old is managing to build with , amazing! I am not a holder of these shares , so good luck to you all .

Great performance by Hornby today. Another small company I am watching is Stanley Gibbons [SGI] the stamp and coin dealer. Phoenix are also involved with that one, and like Hornby, stamp and coin collecting is going strong in the lockdown as folk rediscover these hobbies. Half year results are due imminently which should exactly demonstrate this, they are an absolute bargain at 3.3p each - look at the ten year graph to really see something remarkable!

Nothing I can see. I did search, but maybe just the lockdown, kids staying at home and engaging with parents who want to relive their childhoods?
were there any particular good news today? can't see why it went up so much all at once..

Hornby have been upsetting all their retail accounts recently. Someone at Rails probably said something they shouldn't to the wrong person.
Just had an email that rails are no longer stocking Hornby. No explanation as to why. Rails are one of the biggest model railway outlets in the uk.

Latest loss announced brings the total losses of shareholder funds from 2012 to £49m. An olympic performance.
Tangible NAV PS is 23p.
>seems to be getting very close to how it was performing pre-pandemic
You are correct. It is returning to losing £5m a year and burning cash like coal in a boiler.
Hardly any float left to trade (Pheonix own it all) so the price never moves. At least it doesn't fall I suppose.
I'm only just starting to look into this stock but it seems to be getting very close to how it was performing pre-pandemic. Hornby is a business I haven't followed much for a few years but it seems as if it had some quite positive Christmas sales.
The coverage of the return to the shops today seem to suggest Britain is still willing to spend. My immediate thoughts are: Pretty much everybody in the country has had a lot of spare time on their hands recently, perhaps investing more to their hobbies than ever before.
However, I do recognize some of the fundamental issues that have existed with this company for many years and I would be interested to hear other people's opinions on the current state of play...

It's becoming a bit obvious that this is holding up as the traders keep it there to allow the placing to happen, and will keep it there for a respectable period, say a week.
But eventually it must succomb to the general market mood. They won't be immune to Coro. Probably see shipment delays that will already be making a mess of their Christmas period plans.
Take care thinking it's super safe bececause it's the only share not falling.

Putting the £15m to good use already
https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/bassett-lowke-steampunk
This company is owned 75% by Phoenix Asset Management. They also fund the huge loan that keeps this company running (at 5% over Libor of course). Then there is the related party connection with LCD a company now run (allegedly) by Mrs Davis, a company that Hornby paid £1.6m for 49% of. LCD had net assets of under £0.5m at their last accounts.
In other words the very last thing on anyone's mind in this company and it's major shareholder is the PI.
You may wish to buy some of it's expensive toys but I'd far from tempted to buy any of it's shares!
Can’t see any share buys from the CEO since he joined in 2017 lol - imagine spouting all those positive words and diluting shareholders this morning when he hasn’t put his own cash into the business - class act not lol
Had a look here following the RNS this morning - debt up from £1m to £8m at half year, losses running still at £4-£5m a year and just asked shareholders for £15m - classic Zombie company trying to stay alive when it should be dead.

good trading update last week. Now 41p to buy.
It seems like this is turning round like Stanley Gibbons also is.
It certainly gave me a 'what the..' moment.
Maybe the stress of trying to make a profit when sterling has declined so much is showing. It will pass, as long as they can keep raising money.
What sort of an update is this?
I thought it was a joke at first???
