Thank you, that information was very helpful. What if you sell shares to realise a loss and then buy them back again to put into an ISA? Going back to HNT.......historically, the all time low has been 20p but after the world financial crash the lowest they have been in the last five years has been about 34p Anything is possible.......the shares could go lower before they improve........I am 100% certain that these shares are grossly undervalued and will get there in the end. I once held ITV and bought them when everyone was writing them off at 20p......now look at the price!
The purpose of these ideas is to realise a gain or loss on shares by selling, but retaining ownership where you wish so to do. The object is to raise the base cost of the shares by utilising the annual exemption in order to mitigate the CGT on ultimate disposal, or possibly to create a loss to set off against other realised gains in year. This process used to be called bed & breakfast prior to the change in the law in 1998. Bed & breakfasting was used to sell a share and repurchase it the next day, with only a small risk of the market going against you. The 30-day rule ended this practice. Now, over 30 days has to elapse between the sale and purchase in order to have the desired effect. Otherwise, you're treated as though you never sold them. Selling shares and buying them back 30 days later is less desirable since the shares could move significantly against you while you're waiting. Not surprisingly, new techniques have evolved to get around the rules. The most obvious is to make use of that most useful taxation tool -- the spouse. You own the shares solely, sell them in the market (creating the gain), your spouse simultaneously repurchases in the market to avoid price movement and later transfers the shares back to you (if that's desirable), which can be done in effect at the repurchase price remember. Thus neither of you make a gain or loss plus you wind up still owning the shares as before. It could be done with an unmarried partner or any other person but with a slight additional problem. After the simultaneous repurchase in the market, the person, upon transferring back to the original holder, has to do so at market value because of the gifts rule. No problem if the market price is the roughly the same, but if it has moved substantially, then our second person will create a gain or loss on themselves upon transferring back to the original holder.
There are tax advantages to establishing a loss for the year before April obviously. But how long must one wait before you can buy them back again to establish that loss?
"It would only be fairly significant if it was a director......." Or a former director. There will be plenty of shares available in the next three weeks as people sell before the end of the tax year. This share is highly rated if you need to generate tax losses.
100,000 is nothing. It would only be fairly significant if it was a director.......but no doubt that will soon become public knowledge very soon. 15million changed hands last year.......and the share price was unaffected.
Guess who.
Hurry up everyone.......only a very short time left to buy these shares before they take a dramatic price increase. They are currently lingering on a 12 month low, paying a 9% dividend........and results are due on the 10th of April. I believe at the very worst, the results will not be quite as bad as people expect....or maybe the results will be a lot better than people expect. The firm now has a completely new leadership and from now on the news can only be GOOD news as we go into the next up wave.
Close to 12 month low. Launch the lifeboats.
That's it.....keep up the positivity! They are probably storing up all the good news to blitz the media and kick start the share price along with the start the new Chief Exec in April and the announcement the end of year's results. Quite important will also be the general uplift of the small cap market, this usually happens towards the end of the Bull market. I know everyone is saying that this Bull market is due for a correction........and there are some very worrying headwinds worldwide.......but when hasn't there been? The USA elections are due in October 2016......and with quantitive easing in Europe.....I think there is a chance that this Bull market will run longer still. After all, we have only just reached the peak attained 10 -12 years ago. The decisive influence is not the UK elections but the USA elections........nothing will be allowed to happen to destabilise those........we will hear more and more good news!
Strong performances from its agencies in the United States, Britain and China, and an improvement in Western Europe, helped the firm post a 3.3 percent rise in 2014 like-for-like net sales, with that measurement rising to 3.9 percent in January. Could it be the same for HNT?
First half results could possibly disappoint or not be quite as bad as expected....but future prospects are excellent! These shares will increase in value once we have the possible bad news out of the way in April. The shares are unbelievably cheap and offer a stunning yield that no bank or bond can match and the dividend is still safe possibly for the next two years. The company is not wildly exciting at present, but has a track record of steady reasonably consistent profits. The PR business will always have customers in times good and bad. The improvements in digital upgrades [ paid for last year] has prepared the ground for maximum growth. The recently appointed Chief Executive will take the company in exciting new directions and revenue will increase vastly going into 2016/17 He will also express his confidence in the company by making a major purchase of shares. Europe is picking up [ over 60% of the company's revenue source ] and sales will return to HNT in this vital area. Quantitive easing will begin to work its magic. Business from China may add to revenues. The strength of the dollar and weakening of the pound will assist in flattering the accounts. The shares have hit a possible 'double bottom bullish reversal', which means that before the end of the year the shares could be around 60p, which still under values the company. These shares could be three times the price in two years time! NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY!!!!
Are we now heading for a double bottom bullish reversal? ______________________________________________- I not sure I know what that is. Sounds like an up coming buying opportunity. I hope so too
Are we now heading for a double bottom bullish reversal? I do hope so!
I'm back in for a trade... GLA & Best Regards, Blue
Thanks AKW.........this is what we want.......news that actually tells people what this company actually does to earn it's money. And news of some major customer wins that will significantly increase the companies profits. So far this company has been playing it's cards close to it chest. Maybe come March/ April it will begin to reveal major new trade that will make these shares soar! It would seem that Europe may be on the verge of a turnaround.......that can't be bad for HNT
You enquired if I had topped up AKW.......indeed I have! But sadly, my resources are much depreciated, so I have not been able to purchase as many shares as I would have liked. I am also nearing retirement...so it is all getting a bit scary! it seems to me that at present, I have more confidence in the company than the Chairman and the Chief Executive rolled into one! What is my confidence founded upon? Well, terrifyingly very little at present! Lets hope Paul Taaffe shows bold and dynamic leadership that will make the PR world sit up and take notice. I want to see major inroads into Asia, Australia and the USA. And revenue in Europe must be ruthlessly and aggressively pursued at all costs. "Sell' m cheap and stack'm high! I want to see a renaissance..... and a new broom sweeping clean, aiming high and revolutionising the PR WORLD!! Maybe someone ought to employ ME to promote the company!
Thank you for returning......it gets a bit lonely on this HNT discussion page sometimes. It is also rather alarming when share activity is extremely low and no one seems to be showing any interest in this share at all. Even the smallest scrap of positivity can go a long way. I am glad you think the dividend is safe. The company seems to be sailing a bit close to the wind, but maybe there could be a turn around this year and into 2016 I agree that Sally Withey needs to be thanked and congratulated for the sterling work she has done. I do worry however, that someone so young and brilliant should be leaving because of ill health. Obviously, sickness can happen to anyone at any time, but it seems to me that far too many people have left Huntsworth for sickness or other reasons in the past couple of years and it makes me wonder what the hidden problems are. Lord Chadlington seems to still be going strong at 73....and long may it continue. My hope is that very shortly, we will be hearing news from the new Chief Executive of strongly positive news for the future prospects of the company. I would also be encouraged if he made a major purchase of the company shares. Lord Myner's dived in straight away with a purchase of 200,000 shares at 65p....... surely the company cannot be so poorly regarded, as not to be worth a major purchase at 41p by the Chief Executive!
For a company that is a PR specialist, it is displaying, loud and clear, a conspicuous lack of PR and self promotion. What can the reason be? It is almost as if the company does not want to attract attention to its self. Does anybody know the origin of the saying "No news, is good news?"
,,,,,,,with a whimper! Paul Taaffe is the new man. Starts in April. Sally Withey has resigned. It's all change at HNT. Hold and hope the dividend is safe.
Shuuussshhh! Please keep it quiet. The price is coming down nicely
They say that 'no news is good news' so as there have been absolutely no news at all for the last two months.....surely there must be some positive news just around the corner. The last report on the state of the company possibly deliberately played up how bad things were with new business in the latter half of 2014, so with luck, we will all be pleasantly surprised with results better than expected. I am particularly interested to hear of what new ideas the new Chief executive has in turning the company around and driving sales in China and Europe. Perhaps sales can break into the Australian market? Also if there have been any benefits from the upgrading of the digital systems since that has happened. I wonder where the most furtive areas of new growth lay in this company.
It all seems very suspiciously quiet at the moment. Why should this be? Is it in anticipations of more bad news? The pound has dropped against he dollar.......so that ought to help towards earnings from the USA. Has any progress been made in China?
Well at we have last the long awaited Director's buy! Obviously a bit of skilful PR handling.........the bad news of Sally Withey's departure coupled with the news of a new Chief Executive........announced on a very quiet day in the stock market. Maybe no one else has noticed.......or even cares! Well I hope those who rate the value of these shares show some attention. I cannot comment on the appointment of the new chief executive, as I know nothing about him........but I very much hope for two things going into 2015.......some positive PR concerning future profits and some dynamic leadership.....especially concerning developments in Asia. Oh and also on my wish list is that at least the dividend will be sustained in 2015 together with a more appropriate share value. Let us hope that the City and the brokers view this latest news favourably! A joyful Christmas and prosperous New Year to all my readers!
Aren;t these shares cheap enough? Maybe we will all find out at the next announcement of results.
It was a positive sign to see Abeforth adding 3 million HNT to their share portfolio. That obviously explains why there was a last minute buy of three million shares just before close and a price monitoring extension last Friday.
