She mentions Coal in her recent speech
Listen 2.15 sec
You just heard it fro the horses mouth!
Sheikh Hasina stated that she wants Bangladesh to explore the idea of using clean renewable energy sources such as hydrogen that will reduce carbon emissions and air pollution
We need a translation. Anyone able to?
Whilst fuelling her own coal plants NCT.
Philbari can only produce enough coal for 50% of coal powered capacity.
You’re looking more like a deramper every post I read 😂
This is from the GCM website - for info .....
Bangladesh currently imports around five million tonnes of low quality, high-Sulphur coal which is used principally in the brick industry. The replacement of this coal with the higher quality coal from Phulbari will significantly improve the air quality across the whole country.................
Although Bangladesh is vulnerable to the effects of climate change, it is not itself a significant emitter of greenhouse gases. Bangladesh currently produces about 0.41% of global greenhouse gas emissions. If all Phulbari coal were used to produce electricity, Bangladesh would still only contribute around 0.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which is insignificant compared to many developed and developing countries. (The USA and China both currently account for around 39% of global emissions). The average US citizen consumes around 35 times as much electricity as the average Bangladeshi. Over time, Bangladesh may be able to broaden the sources of its electricity, but in the short term domestic coal provides the lowest risk, technically proven and most viable way of addressing the country’s growing energy needs.

The medium term focus of the Government's climate change strategy is to adapt to the effects of climate change, a challenging task that will benefit from a strong and growing economy.

Prime minster of Bangladesh stated they are moving towards clean renewable energy sources such as hydrogen to reduce impact on climate.
Sheikh Hasina previously gave the green light to scrap 10 coal fired power plants:

Gpback are you trying to ignore what the Bangladesh prime minster just said on the news lol
She just clearly stated they want to explore utilising clean renewable energy!
Ignore the news all you like but hopefully everyone here does their own research
NCT that article is 3 years ago!! Think that’s out of the window now!
DYOR
Yes as part of a balanced energy supply.
All those existing coal power plants aren’t going to be binned.
You’re a n notice of being blocked (by me obviously) 🙄
Yes that article is an old one, shared as an example that the country scrapped these coal fired projects previously. If it was so good why were they not given the green light back then.
This is news from today:

NCT. The article is 3 years old.
Just saying things change 😀
GPback
Hasina first addresses the issue with the planning engineers in the city and then she goes onto addressing the issue with electricity ( 1.52 sec into the video ) she says by 2041 bangladesh will be producing 60,000 mega watts electricity, currently they are looking at hydrogen wich is renewable energy and how it can be used we are also doing Coal plants, Gas and Oil plants, we are taking all these measures to tackle the energy issues
Brief translation maybe others can add..
Hope this helps GPback
Thanks Blumagnet - appreciated 👍
NCt you're talking rubbish posting old articles.
Here's from just 2 months ago which is probably a bit more relevant.
State Minister for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has recently said that it is not possible to leave so much coal underground and import it. “Sooner or later, we will have to extract coal locally. For this, local people will be paid adequate compensation.”

Youknowitsright
News released today indicates they are geared towards clean renewable energy and this came from the Sheikh Hasina herself
She also mentioned COAL, OIL & GAS so what's your point, NCT
Do you really believe it's possible to reach 60,000 mega watts by 2041 by only using clean energy ?
Energy mix. They are already committed to coal power. They cannot change that. They just can't afford to buy the coal to run them. That's why they will dig the coal buried in their own back garden.

There's nothing in here from today that really worries me at all regarding GCM and Phulbari.
"We have to look into the return from any project. How much the people will be benefited, what will be its return or whether the project will be useful for the country. We have to make these calculation," she said.
"I have a request to you, whatever is the plan, it has to be environment-friendly, sustainable and cost effective," she said.
Well it's certainly more 'environment-friendly, sustainable and cost effective' to use your own OPM coal than import from all your neighbours. GLA

"We are ensuring multifaceted electricity generation by installing solar, wind, coal, gas, oil and hydro based power plants. More research is required to this end," she said.
