There’s no comparable alternative to Phulbari for the amount of coal, in the time it’ll take to produce.
The buck stops with us boys, you can be certain of it.
Mm’s filling background orders - record breaking volume month on month for GCM since the new year, moving the price up & down like a yo yo, non of it’ll matter when the market gets wind of approval…until then, we wait. GLA!
We just need the news of the mining going ahead and can’t see why it won’t go ahead as the country’s current situation is far from ideal. It’s just a waiting game but it has to be the closest it’s ever been. GLA
On the worst day of the historical heatwave, Bangladesh’s power generation nosedived because India lessened its electricity export and private power producers reduced their generation as the Bangladesh Power Development Board has yet to clear the pile-up of outstanding bills.
PDB member Khandaker Mokammel Hossain confirmed that the surge in the load shedding was partly triggered by India cutting down its power export and fuel-oil-based power plants reducing their operations over unpaid bills.

Obviously the situation has been made worse due to the heatwave, but It looks like they are starting to run into a coal shortage as well as gas now, so I’m guessing unless they start paying their bills the situation will now run into the same situation throughout the summer as last year 🤔
"Various districts including Dinajpur, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Gaibandha are in a dire situation as power outages last for 10 to 12 hours daily. The impact on daily life is profound, with residents facing challenges in accessing basic amenities and enduring adverse health effects due to the lack of electricity."
"Alamin Kabir from Dinajpur said, "We are now getting electricity for an average of 12 hours a day. There's no guarantee when power will come back after load-shedding starts.”
"However, the nation is suffering due to the insufficient power supply. Power Division officials attributed this shortfall to a scarcity of gas and coal, which is hampering the ability of large power stations to generate electricity to meet the demand."
"Similarly, the report showed that the Barapukuria coal-fired power plant in Dinajpur is facing challenges as both of its two units of 125MW capacity are currently inactive."
"Furthermore, due to the ongoing dollar crisis, coal imports are also being disrupted, said BPDB Member (Generation) Khandakar Mokammel Hossain."

“The extent of load shedding crossed 1,860 MW on Sunday, a new high in power shortage in at least a decade, on the heels of a new record in power generation.”
“Meanwhile, state-owned Petrobangla's official data shows that the country's gas production was 3,105 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) against a demand for about 4000 MMCFD.
It shows that a good number of power plants, specifically those using gas as their primary fuel, remained off generation due to gas shortage.”

“The REB was able to supply 6,500 MW of power against the demand of 9,312 MW.
"Power outages in the rural areas are so frequent that if any interruption takes place, consumers have to wait several hours to get electricity both day and night," reports UNB, citing an official of the REB.
"The extent of load-shedding might even be more than 2000 MW if local outages are taken into account," the official added, requesting anonymity to speak as the issue is considered sensitive.
According to official sources, the maximum burden of load-shedding was diverted to rural areas, as part of a policy to avert power outages in the capital Dhaka, and other large cities.”

Booooooooom
"Petrobangla Chairman Zanendra Nath Sorkar told The Daily Messenger, “We cannot supply gas and LNG as per the demand as gas production is depleting fast. So, the government has to deploy the coal-based plants.”
It looks like the Chinese are going to want to be paid in their own currency. This is sensible of them if the Taka is depreciating and that depreciation will only improve as industry capacities can be fully engaged. I hope plenty of the natives will be employed by the Chinese and they can improve their skills base and be employed at Phulbari.
Thanks Searcher. Further from Daily Messenger:
"Industry insiders think Petrobangla currently cannot provide an adequate amount of gas to the national grid as gas production has depleted and importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) has also got expensive. So, the coal-based power plants are playing a key role in managing load-shedding and meeting the demand".
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told The Daily Messenger “When we understood that gas is depleting fast, we undertook the coal-based power generation projects. So, during the gas crisis, these projects are contributing as much as we need.”
“Moreover, more coal-based capacity is waiting to generate power. Still, we cannot utilise the Matarbari plant’s full capacity. Some other coal-based plants are in the pipeline that will serve more. Besides, coal is currently cheaper than LNG,” he added.

Green light news leaks should filter out anytime now imho
Awami League's manifesto - Power….
Some on this board have mentioned that they did not know that using own resources, (specifically coal), was in the AL’s Election Manifesto, below is some text taken from articles that reported the manifesto, I hope this helps to clear this point up.
Awami League, has mentioned of exploration and exploitation of domestic coal resources to protect the national interest. It stated that this would be done following the already finalized coal policy. The election pledge committed to launching initiatives toward turning every village self-sufficient in energy under the “My Village, My Town” program.
Coal policy has been formulated giving due priority to national interest. Required priorities will be given to the exploration of coal and other minerals, according to the policy.
In the last three terms, groundbreaking and revolutionary developments have been made in the country's power sector. Uninterrupted and quality power and energy supply are assured, and long-term plans have been adopted to increase power generation capacity to 40,000 MW by 2030 and 60,000 MW by 2041.
Looking good then lets get the overhang gone then see whete we are really at
The nod that matters is Phulbari but as you don't understand what subtext is, it means implied and that means Phulbari will not be discussed but does enable what is discussed. What is important is to get public finances heading in the right direction.
Am as bullish as most but this thread is nonsence apart from china
Hasina giving the nod on overburden get real mate
Where is the market for the overburden then which will make good road metal where flooding puts roads underwater and could possibly do with some?
No connection no relevance at all to gcm
Southern projects enabled by Phulbari being painted green; the subtext.
This is southern projrcts no? not North wake up pls
Some interesting insights this afternoon!
Roads are what the Chinese are good at building and they will need somewhere to put all that overburden. The south is where Hasina is from so playing to all of the country with Phulbari and painting it all green in the process. I can't think of another project to discuss in China.
Yup, this is one of those "major projects" that Hasina will want to have a fanfare announcement over, amid maximum publicity.
---A project worth up to $100 bill with an initial outlay of $1 bill from Power China, is "Major" in any bodies language, and it will not be left to underling ministers, to announce.
---A formal signing between Hasina and China is what you would expect.
-Send the Finance Minister out there next month, to do all the paper work and agree the figs, followed by a bit of DD, and then the formal announcement from Hasina and China when everybody is agreed on the detail , a little later on.
-In the meantime things will leak out from various meetings ect, (we await news from the one last weeks), and it will be all well known, and out in the open, long before the big whoha signing ceremony.
-Greater ties, loans, funding projects, it all smooths the path to OPM at Phulbari.
-
-Cant be long before we start seeing the GL on the horizon.
