Polaris probably have clients pulling money out of various funds. So had to sell their stake. Either that or a short offered them a price they could not refuse. IMO
@deltaro it wasn't very busy but then I saw Father Stu which hasn't been very popular, I'm saw Top Gun 2 will pack it out !
Furion I think that's a great idea actually. Friends and I went to see matrix on big screen recently and have seen other classics at Prince Charles theatre: seeing your favourites on the big screen again is a price a lot of people would pay and the voting idea gives more engagement.
Bluebuxton
How busy was Cineworld Telford? I’ve been looking at the seat spaces for Top Gun on Saturday and they are filling up fast, they’ll be sold out by each film showing imo,
@cape - best post I have read in a long while
Give me an overpriced ticket so can watch in peace then a bunch of idiots talking over the film any day
"Am I the only person that thinks £50 for 2 tickets to see a film is a lot of money"
I would rather it be more expensive to get a good class of people watching with me
Who cares if Polaris reduced, making money in the stock market is for wolves, not sheep
Cinema as a family outing is incredibly good value for money.
Cineworld offer family ticket deal for £23 for a family of 4. For these Family Ticket holders a concession deal exists, a Family Special includes 2 x Munchboxes, 1 x Regular Popcorn & 2 x Regular Soft Drink for only £13.90. That’s a saving of over 30%. Total spend for family of 4: £ 36.90. Per head £9.22.
Where else can you go for 2-3 hours, be entertained and fed for less than £10 per person.
The summer will add an alternative venue in a dry air conditioned theater which will appeal to many when the summer heat comes and equally when the summer rain makes a show.
For £15.99 you can watch all you want in a month!
That is the way to do it if you like movies
Am I the only person that thinks £50 for 2 tickets to see a film is a lot of money given the circumstances that a lot of people are now in ?
Do you read this stuff back to yourself?
Little money to be made for longs right now? And money to be made is a long way off?
Well, yeah - that's why they're long!
In fact, if people want to go long and believe in the company - then this price is the perfect time to make money for the future!! LMFAO!!!!
There's little money to be made for traders at the moment would be a better way of putting it but that doesn't suit your agenda now does it?
Unbelievable Jeff.
The reality is people will probably continue to go to the pubs and cinema despite rising inflation. Unfortunately, the markets are in for a torrid time for the foreseeable future - the global sell off is unlikely to stop anytime soon, infact it may even accelerate. All stocks, with very few exceptions, are likely to continue to drop further over the coming weeks and possibly months. There's very little money to be made for longs right now. At some point, what goes down may eventually begin to go back up presenting a possible opportunity, but right now any talk of bull markets is a very, very long way off with so much sh*t going on in the world.
I have always thought when there is a drought nod nee material what cine should do via the app is have maybe 5 oldies but goodies classics if you will which get voted on say mon to wed then this is run on Fri sat and sun

I was at Telford Southwater Cineworld yesterday deltaro :-)
Went to see RoboCop at Telford Odeon later on which was sold out. Cine are missing a trick not showing the run of older movies on all their cinemas they just put them on at a limited number
Yeah , there’s different prices for different venues, I’m going to Telford Southwater Cineworld.
deltalo, I was having a look around various venues yesterday and just happened to see that the Imax for Topgun Maverick @CINE in York was only charging £10.99 a ticket. Maybe a pricing glitch as I pay the same as you. Cheapest I have seen it and there for anyone in that neck of the woods.
I’m booked in to see Top Gun in iMAX 2D this Saturday, two tickets for £34.00, not bad as the same tickets in London would cost £50.00.
It’s filling up and probably be full by Saturday.
Yes, Polaris have reduced but not by too much. They also did this a few months ago just like they’ve done now, afterwards they increased again.
I would keep an eye out, any major shareholder reducing their holding massively would concern me, but I believe that this is negligible.
@RS2002 So from this information it would appear that Polaris are dealing with their own finances by reducing their Cine holding?
The reasoning nobody will ever know but they were all passed on in the run up to last Friday at a higher price. I'd be more inclined to buy with this month and a good summer slate of films.
Hope everyone has their seats booked for TopGun. I'm there tomorrow night with family so will let you know how it goes without any spoilers.
Seems they have just gone back to their February position, no great shakes, if they were concerned I would have thought they would have reduced by far more.
Back in 2017, Polaris Capital submitted an appeal to a bankruptcy order. It filed a business-rehabilitation petition and was able to restructure and recover.
An 8% reduction in their holding was likely to free up capital as global equities have seen a sell off.

Polaris dont need the money. They're a huge company. Reducing their holding is unlikely to be about freeing up capital, it's more likely about de-risking their position/reducing exposure. It appears they see risk ahead, most likely the appeal and how the company intends to pay if they lose (and what that'll look like in terms of share price/stock dilution).
Polaris reduced their own allocation by just 8%.
I would imagine they wanted to diversify their portfolio.
I am curious if the shorters who loaned out the shares will need to settle back to Polaris.
The overall split of the shares is still 73% insider and institutional owned and 27% private retail investor held.
I am hopeful to make some gains elsewhere to increase my holding here in CINE.
The threshold was crossed on the 20th which is Friday last week at a price higher than now.
