The United Kingdom Defense ministry announced on Friday that Britain will be sending around 8,000 army troops, along with dozens of tanks, helicopters and artillery to
Eastern Europe as a response to the Russian intensification of hostilities in Ukraine.
The British forces will be joined by thousands of NATO troops in deployment across a wide range of countries, from Finland to North Macedonia. The defense ministry noted that the exercises are meant to demonstrate how the UK's army has developed into a "lethal, agile and global force."
Yesterday, British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace stated that Russia should be forced to end its military intervention in Ukraine by leaving the entire territory of the country, including Crimea.

The Hawks have been hovering for a while now, and sadly it seems that more people from the poor one end of town will be sent in uniforms to shoot at people from the poor end of another town, for reasons, they know not why. Such is life, and wars created, and nothing is solved, yet new scars are born, which mark the next generation and so on it goes, and where it stops, nobody knows.
I do hope Boris will don a unform and stride to the battle front. We have a few boat loads of similar yappers here, who we can send to stand with Boris, LOL, sadly
A pathetic effort all round, from those that supposedly know better
It is those that should know better that keep printing the fiats...go gold ....
the gnome,
I am always a bit disappointed on our Anzac Day Gnome, the commonly used phrase “lest we forget” is a slap in the face to those who lost their lives in a stupid conflict when you examine the continuing behaviour of the human race - “why don’t we remember” would be more appropriate.

'Why Won't They Ever Learn'.
Marlene Dietrich, Peter Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio - they all did great versions but Pete Seeger wrote it.
As long as there is a lot of money to be made from war, and themselves and families are not put at risk, there is no desire to learn.
Unfortunatly.
They never learn, Tony Blair was persuaded by false claims/evidence of Bush and the CIA that weapons of mass destruction existed to commit the UK to a war in Iraq without consulting the elected upper & lower members of the UK parliament
Unfortunately Blair believed this miss guided notion of some special relationship with the US, when really the Iraq war was was all about US global dominance , oil & gold!
A similar situation of being the USA poodle was the UK's military involvement in Afghanistan which despite all the lives lost and UK money spent has now been abandoned because of the whims of the changes in the American intentional political agenda!
This time Boris and his cabinet have made such a complete mess of Brexit, broken virtually all the Tory manifesto election pledges, the pandemic has exposed the dire state of the NHS and Boris has lied to the UK Monarch to prorogue the UK parliament under false pretenses without consulting the elected upper & lower houses of parliament and now been proven to have lied to parliament on his breaking of his own parties Covid laws
Boris Johnson sees his get out in being able divert the public's attention from all of this appalling behavior and failures to deliver by committing UK troops and armament's to a stand off or war with Russia in Ukraine, again without the consultation of both the lower and upper houses of UK parliament!
Unfortunately this time there is a real danger of the Russian dictatorship may use Boris's actions as an excuse to scale up the Ukraine conflict to nuclear levels for which both EU and non EU counties, indeed the world over will pay a heavy price!
Another unforseemed problem down to Brexit.
If you wish to transfer or pay in Europe by visa ,credit or debit card ,it now costs i4 euros per thousand extra to get cash or pay bills.
All the Banks are taking full advantage of this.
Something else that was not thought through, businesses that trade in Euope have to have a European registered agent, otherwise you cant export.
-Revenge for Brexit.
So if you plan on aholiday ,take sufficient Euros Cash, but not in penny more than 10000 Euros,or you are in trouble.
These are not reported by the press. Bad for Government
..
how many times have we told you tibbles, you useless ****. keep out of the politic on here, keep it gold!!!!!!!!! loser!!!
Dear Mark, I don’t always agree with many/lots of Mr Tibbles's political points of view BUT he works hard on finding out many interesting points about CEY and due to this we should take note of the things he says and thank him.
If you do not agree with his points then please keep your feeling to yourself and do not be rude to him.
However, the escalations of sending troops and tanks into Eastern Europe play straight into VP’s hands and he’ll make great use of it to justify the war. This is relevant to the price of gold and world events affecting CEY.
Why/proof:- Russian wife who I met while I was in St Pete. Drinking cups of tea instead of Vodka, speaking poor Russian and other actions, seemed to label me from the UK. The first question always asked by many Ru people was,
‘When is the west going to attack us?’
Me, ‘Why would we ever try that?’
‘You want to get our oil/land resources?’
Me, ‘Why would we try and steal resources when we can buy them from you and throughout the world’. ‘We’re not a poor country, we can buy things, we don’t need to steal things!’ etc.
They only listen to the Ru channels and VP keeps them in fear. Every time something happens in the UK the in-laws call and are in great fear for their daughter, due to the information they’ve got from the TV news about the UK. He rules via fear.
Fabulous song. The origins are interesting "Where are the flowers, the girls have plucked them. Where are the girls, they've all taken husbands. Where are the men, they're all in the army." These lines were taken from the traditional Cossack folk song "Koloda-Duda" The Cossacks are a predominantly East Slavic Orthodox Christian people group originating in the steppes of Ukraine and Russia. They were a semi-nomadic and semi-militarized people, who, while under the nominal suzerainty of various Eastern European states at the time, such as the Russian Empire or the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, were allowed a great degree of self-governance in exchange for military service. The Cossacks were particularly noted for holding democratic traditions.
I won't bore you with my views on the stupidity we continually exhibit, whilst describing ourselves as intelligent.

Thank you for the interesting comments and thoughts. I love history, reading & listen to audiobooks while driving, gardening etc. It’s fantastic but you learn the same event can be written in many different ways. Trying to get into the minds of the people making the decisions at the time is very hard. However, from history, we must try to learn to think about the accuracy of any information and in the end try to obtain JUSTICE for all. I have NO illusions about the facts around war/world history and spend a few days in any court to understand how difficult it is to know true facts. Personally, IMHO God is the only one to know the real truth in the end, but common sense must prevail.
However, the death of 18,000, - 30,000, - 40,000 + Ukraine people and 2,000 - 15,000 - 21,000 Russian soldiers depending on who tells the story, can never be justified for any reason. The world’s justice system should/will look after any issues NOT war.
I’ll shut up and go back to being a sleeping reader. Again thank you for everything you all write here.
It has been a long time since common sense has prevailed. Instead, you see the same thing prevailing, more and more

Pentagon spending has totaled over $14 trillion since the start of the war in Afghanistan, with one-third to one-half of the total going to military contractors.
A large portion of these contracts -- one-quarter to one-third of all Pentagon contracts in recent years -- have gone to just five major corporations: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, General Dynamics, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman. The $75 billion in Pentagon contracts received by Lockheed Martin in fiscal year 2020 is well over one and one-half times the entire budget for the State Department and Agency for International Development for that year, which totaled $44 billion.
Weapons makers have spent $2.5 billion on lobbying over the past two decades, employing, on average, over 700 lobbyists per year over the past five years. That is more than one for every member of Congress.
Numerous companies took advantage of wartime conditions—which require speed of delivery and often involve less rigorous oversight—to overcharge the government or engage in outright fraud. In 2011, the Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan estimated that waste, fraud and abuse had totaled between $31 billion and $60 billion.
As the U.S. reduces the size of its military footprint in Iraq and Afghanistan, exaggerated estimates of the military challenges posed by China have become the new rationale of choice in arguments for keeping the Pentagon budget at historically high levels. Military contractors will continue to profit from this inflated spending.
and now we have Ukraine

Hi Nick,
Thank you for posting your thoughts on these matters, it is a folly indeed to believe that just because one may trade or has invested in a particular stock (Centamin) that all all other subject matters are irrelevant and should be prohibited from the overall discussion!
if that were so then there would be no point in having a forum such as this, indeed after their experiences of the past decade or so all long term Centamin share holders cannot fail be aware that the share price and future fortunes of Centamin are unquestionably interlinked, affected and influenced by just about everything and anything else you could think of and some that you didn't in the geopolitical events of today's world!

From your manner I wonder if you are possibly suffering from "Intermittent explosive disorder," possibly you should consider an appointment with your GP for a diagnosis as a course of treatment may help you to control any aggressive behaviour towards others and so allow you to channel your energy into something more beneficial to you.
In the meantime try to stay calm and have an enjoyable bank holiday!
Yes Gnome, it seems quite obvious the US intended to cause a conflict in Ukraine using the puppet comedian to do their bidding & further line the pockets of Raytheon, McDonnell-Douglas, etc. Even if Putin didn’t take the bait they would have got another NATO member forced to devote a percentage of its GDP to the same crowd.
We may well benefit from a fairly likely strengthening of gold price but the ordinary Ukrainian & ordinary Russian citizens will pay a ludicrously heavy price.
Unfortunately, the question who invaded who......and ultimately two countries so far are paying the price which I never expected to happen. Its not to say USA or Nato could not have done things differently. Any it is so sad and always those that make money. Anyway, I try not to do politics...
Onto other matters Goldman Sachs predicting gold 2500 dollars by the year end Telegraph....we have all been waiting for this for this for a decade plus
Hi, Mike some great words and thoughts.
Spoonington that is a very strong statement you have about the USA, what none RT proof do you have?
“… it seems quite obvious the US intended to cause a conflict in Ukraine using the puppet comedian to do their bidding …”
This war/initiative has been planned for many years.
In Feb 2000 the military took control of Chechnya but it took until 2017 for total control. In August 2008 they took Georgia, even after USA promises of help which Georgia never got. USA thought they could work with VP but he’s been laughing at them for their weakness for some time.
In 2014 it was Crimea and the start of the paid(?) revolution in Ukraine, it’s VP method of getting an excuse to roll in the tanks and it happens every time. Moldovia will be next.
Gnome I understand the USA companies are making money and the USA public will be paying for it in their taxes as it’s not free money. What options does Ukraine have but to accept the help of the USA and EU? There are only 2 choices, you submit to the bully or you fight him!
I personally love the Russian people as they're great to have a chat and laugh with. I was never great at their Rubbles change so got a pocket full of cash in my hand and they took what they needed. I totally trust them. I do read/watch both sides and know clearly that many of the West articles can be exaggerated but we do that to our own politicians so what's new! Everything you take with a pinch of salt.
However, there are LAWs in the world trying to make life better for everyone. Why cannot the ordinary Russian person have that? Invading a country on some grandiose fabricated scheme is not a law the world wants, so we have to somehow stop it? How can we do it peacefully I do not know. I am very unhappy about all the deaths and want everything to stop ASAP but at what price to Europe and the world will this mean?
Those who support VP's way, NOT the Russian people's, tell me your method of stopping the war!
Well said Nicky you added to the main meal significantly.....
As they say, stay away from politics, religion and football.
Here's hoping the next report will start to show real improvements. Bests to all and thanks for cowichan for his terrier like qualities and all for the informative chat
Hi Nick,
I also like the ordinary average Russian people, they aren't to blame for attacking Ukraine, they don't want war any more than most ordinary people the world over, unfortunately they aren't being told the truth by their state media because it is controlled by a corrupt and oppressive dictator Putin who has surrounded himself with cronies and yes men (oligarchs) who have done a Judas Iscariot on honesty, integrity and decency in return for being made obscenely rich as front men for businesses that Putin has ultimate control over!
I have great admiration for the Ukrainian people and their president, I must admit I would have never believed that they could put up such fight, but then they are fighting for the freedom of their country against a corrupt dictator and oppressor Putin who has never ever been elected fairly!
When Mr. Zelensky debated Ukraine’s incumbent president Petro Poroshenko, he was accused of being an “unworthy opponent.” He fired back: “I am not your opponent! I am your verdict!” Strong line, with an element of truth in it, too. Plus, it probably sounds funnier in Ukrainian!
The idea of comedian leaders might not be as laughable as some might might think.
After all, the phrase "Is funny because it’s true! "
Every successful comedian has an element of truth in their comedy.,
when Icelandic comedian Jon Gnarr ran for mayor of Reykjavik in 2010 and created his own party, The Best Party, it began as a joke until the people realized that a new party might in fact be the best option, and Mr. Gnarr’s sincerity and honesty – unprecedented qualities in politics – were rewarded with the mayor’s seat in Iceland’s biggest (only?) city from 2010 to 2014.!
Jon Gnarr oversaw serious matters such as a major restructuring of banks and public-sector cutbacks during his time in office!
I would certainly prefer a comedian as UK prime minister in preference to Boris Johnson who led a Brexit campaign based on lies and was also elected on a manifesto of more even more lies and now has presided over one of the one of the most corrupt and undemocratic administrations in UK history.
Mr. Zelensky is certainly no clown or puppet and has the support of his electorate,in compariosoin Johnson is an evil Joker who lacks integrity and is increasingly despised by the electorate and certainly regarded as clown on the world stage!
Eddie Izard, Bill Ballie and Ricky Gervais would all make excellent politicians, even prime ministers!

The former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that current tension between Russia and the West is putting the world in "colossal danger" due to the threat from nuclear weapons.
In an interview with the BBC's Steve Rosenberg, former President Gorbachev called for all countries to declare that nuclear weapons should be destroyed.
