I wouldn't assume that the Sami subsist on state handouts:
'The modern norm is to have a permanent home and a cabin in the mountains for herding season. And those who remain in the business have long since replaced the skis with snowmobiles, AWD vehicles and helicopters.'
People who exist on handouts can't usually afford two homes, snow mobiles and helicopters. They have a parliament and UN protected designation as an indigenous people. My guess is that handouts are the icing not the cake
Boris makes good speeches and then waits for the other party clowns to kick him in the nuts.... delay delay delay..... glad i have been trained by BEM....
Laffin
Sadly the Sami, like most living off the state, assume there is an infinite lump of money that they are entitled to live off without taking any responsibility for. It is never their job to generate the cash pile. Just as we borrow to give away £14bn foreign aid whilst closing libraries, etc to soothe politicians consciences. Sweden,of course, has taken this theme to a new level with their climate change anguish.
The cutbacks have already started as the Mayor has already announced. These cutbacks must affect the Sami’s at some point as they thrive on subsidies and cannot come out unscathed.I would have thought a new mine would have been in their interest now as much as anybody else’s.Or maybe it doesn’t work like that? Lol.
Boris Johnson made a fairly good speech the other day....make believe of course. Sigh.
I thought the Asa Persson article was a spoof, but, astoundingly it is real.
Politicians lives exist in an exclusive and separate world to ours. They love to put out rubbish like this to feed their own egos and need to feel self important.
Look at the 650 f*cktards in the House of Commons. They are absolutely revelling in the chaos they are creating for the same sick psychological reasons. They are the centre of attention and, no matter what, their lavish lifestyle is assured. That is all they crave.
Mission statements, however vacuous, are the daily meat and drink to these parasites.
John lets all hope that job creation trumps sami herding this winter..... and the man who should/could say yes has the local mayor helping him make the speach..... and i sometimes wonder what pressure point will enable the decision to be made and the matter be brought to the conclusion of decision made.... lets all move on to the next phase..... you sami's think ahead.... economy is in need of help.... miners roll your sleeves up... you have a job to do..... and we need workers
GLA
More S.H.I.T.E from Sweden just like the mission statement issued by this government, remember that, pages of C.R.A.P for the gullible. The joke is that people must believe this rubbish otherwise why would they publish it.
Never thought of the Swedes as leading the world in stand up comedy.
Who knows. Perhaps awarding exploration licences doesn’t involve any “complex legal issues”, these only arise when considering applications for mining licences.
The recent question to the Minister from his colleague in Parliament querying the delay in considering mining applications was, perhaps, the wrong question. It would have been more beneficial to ascertain what the “complex legal issues” referred to actually are.
Clearly, these issues are not around the application (which fully satisfies the requirements of the process). If the application were deficient, this would have been identified long before now, and the application denied. Rather, these issues are around the Sami and SDs coalition partners the Greens.
Perhaps the Government should focus more on the real complex legal issues that might arise if they unfairly reject the application, and then face Court action by the Company on this decision.
That is class.
That's funny ibjj. Surely there's a case for a trade description violation about the permitting process/everything.
Evening. Asa has a message for you lol. …. atb

Have to agree with lbjj on their politics but one thing is for sure that this downturn is coming quicker than it takes to open a mine. This might be just what is needed to speed up the process because now they have GOT to do something about creating jobs.Their past glory is at long last starting to bite them in the a*se.Hurray! imho.
As time rolls on and the cash burn develops I feel this is inevitable. I fully agree that Kurt has to diversify after recognising Swedish politicians are either useless or green zealots and a switch of emphasis is needed away from this socialist heaven ! They have lived off their past economic success for too long and need a Thatcher style dose of reality in forthcoming years. Grudgingly I have to say lbjj has it right despite doubting his true motives about mining.
Hi Sooz. Yes, I take your point re "forthcoming", but knowing how the Swedes have failed to operate under any reasonable or fair timescale for us, and I have wept at that, lol, I reluctantly took it to mean only sometime in the future. As ever, it just isn't specific enough. Like "soon", it's open to interpretation as to what would qualify as "soon", and the same can be said of "forthcoming". We already know that in our case, it hasn't meant imminent. Lol.
It would be great if the mining conference coukd be highlighted to the good, with some meat behind it, as in, nicely supported by the issuance prior of licences for both Kallak and Laver. What a boost that would be for the industry.
Alas, one can dream.
And I do. x
And there are only 10.12 million people in the whole country.
Decades of unbroken growth and prosperity without effort has spawned a generation of very sloppy and aimless politicians in Sweden who fully expect a superannuated sinecure for life without hindrance by such pesky issues as an economic downturn.
Faced with the prospect of having to actually manage their economy and not just bask in it’s reflected ongoing glory, they are hopelessly lost.
Damberg and Baylan are shining examples of the appalling atrophy and indolence in Swedish politics. The emperor Nero would be proud...
Looks like Swedish polticians are every bit as bad as UK politicians. Seems like granting Kallak might alleviate employment issues in the area:

I hope KB is lining his ducks up..... if no decision is made before the november meeting of the miners is completed.... share holder revolt and sell off time for holders by year end me thinks
GLA
Eric, I' still holding on to "forthcoming", because next year is next year and a bit of a stretch for forthcoming . Will it be before the November Mining Conference, maybe, maybe not..they've certainly got the brass neck. That's just five more little weeks away.
Yes Sooz, readily handing out exploration licences then not following up on those licences with the issuance of next stage permits, well, is nonsensical. Not to mention very badly and falsely representing their supposedly proud traditions. As we hurtle towards November, I find it difficult to see a decision coming from Baylan this year. The questions are, how long does Kurt give him? What will Kurt do to then, if no decision comes, to force the issue?
We surely can't be expected to remain invested without a timescale for the advancement of Kal. It's just ridiculous Sooz.
Early morny morn. x
And why are they continuing to award exploration licences in areas where they wont permit a mine?
Cheers Sooz. Good that.
Of course, the Government has not been asked to decide if the Company's application satisfies the process. It does. The MI confirmed this.
What the Government has been asked to decide is, despite the Company's application satisfying all the requirements of the process, is it their intention to give primacy to Sami rights (real or imagined), and in so doing, ignore their own law, mining process, ANI status and the wider mining industry in Sweden.
