No airlines are giving out money for expences, indeed why should they? They are effected as much, if not more than the customers. I wish people would take some responsinility for their own actions. Whenever I go away I always ensure I am prepeared for most eventualities. While I admit the volcanic ash issue is something I never have imagined, I suspect BA and other airlines never considered it a posibility either. They are losing money from this also.
This phrase really pi**es me off! The companies are there to make money, they don't give a sh** about God so why have an Act of God clause in the insurance!? I'll tell you why! So that they don't have to pay anyone when they most need it. All the insurance companies are a bunch of crooks, they take your money but use any excuse to not give you anything back!! Even though this sp is down, it's due to the markets overall. I still expect this to rise again to the mid 240s.
Its okay for people to have a go at customers for claiming expenses, if you are not involved. We should have gone home on 18th April, BA can't get us on a flight before th 29th. There are 10 of us. We came over to Atlanta on a shoestring budget for a Robotics competition, and through no fault of our own are stuck here. We are having to pay out for accomodation and food and transport. Plus our business is closed as it is a one man band therefore no income. How about some consideration for the customers eh!!!! And yes we do have travel ins. but it comes nowhere close to covering costs. And yes we do have business ins. who are saying its an Act of God. BA have a contract to look after customers........
Not sure what to make of this week..I see the obvious hope of "all back to normal"...but I also see a hesitant but nevertheless steepening decline which began before the recent issues....strong mid week droop makes me think we're not finished yet. SO, do I buy back in for a long term rise or or follow my intuition and sit it out while the shorters chew it down to the low £2s..I think we're safe from the ash for a while, but I doubt that the impact of all the customers charging outrageous expenses on to the companies has been taken into account? Could be worse than the cancelled flights or am I just being too pessimistic?Do anyone smart suited folks reading this have any idea if the airlines will get any help to cover those extra costs and the sort of numbers we are dealing with here just to provide some reality to our musings?RD
This SP will tick back up to 245 over the next week now that the planes are flying again.
..like Rockdoc before recent history of their volcanoes have been 'uncharacteristically quiet'. It does'nt bother the tweetybirds, maybe a return to the piston engine and Zeppellins etc. is on the cards. Air travel only for the well moneyed. For another time in history the geographical position on the globe of the UK is proving to be a serious disadvantage... Still all ''investment'' in airline stocks is a victory of looney levels of faith over experience! GLA.
BA selling pretty much all tickets now full price business class to us stranded passengers wel into next week. I guess load capacity will look good provided dust settles or manufacturers relent on spec for engine.
more dust cloud - time to get out.
Hi, new to this particular board but good to see a range of views expressed. I'd been in BA for some time but have to say being a qualified geo I sold out like a wimpish coward last week when this started to get serious. Basaltic eruptions rarely come and go in a few days, ignore history at your peril and all that good advice. I think things will stabilise and everything will look rosy for a few days once the Atlantic systems kick in and blow the ash away, but I have to add a huge buyers beware to enthusiastic newcomers because in my humble opinion, this only has one direction in the medium term due to constant downward pressure, decreasing confidence and prospect of on off cancellations all summer. Rightly or wrongly its certainly messing up my own travel arrangements good and proper!!! GLA, and hope things settle down soon for all our sakes. RD
sorry i copied the wrong article for the top one, the other two below are ok though still and worth a read but here is the correct one to replace the top one which is the error http://www.iii.co.uk/news/?type=reutersnews&articleid=TRE63I4KK&feed=Bus&action=article
some interesting articles from the iii board. http://www.iii.co.uk/news/?type=reutersnews&articleid=TRE63I2KE&feed=Bus&action=article http://grayshares.blogspot.com/2010/04/should-icelands-erupting-volcano-and.html http://www.iii.co.uk/articles/articledisplay.jsp?section=Markets&article_id=10094429
Hope you're right, Scottish airspace will be cleared from 7.00 tomorrow for sure
...went up in a plane ealier to test the volcanic ash cloud. he must have got down safely, as the share price is now dropping.....!!!!"£$%^&* LOL
Status Quo are stranded in Russia. Surely the only interest here is shorting. I'm not long or short but we are not sending the navy out across the world with a solution imminent. This blowing for a year is not such a contrarian view right now and nobody truly knows when it will stop. We are already discussing short term food shortages at government level.
ha ha good one wolfie... U in on these or looking ?
What's the difference between the Icelandic volcano and Cheryl Cole ? The volcano's still blowing ash lol
Found this on the BBC site: The BBC's Dominic Laurie says: "British Airways is not insured for these circumstances. A spokeswoman told the BBC it is because it 'has no insurance against natural disasters', it will have to absorb costs itself. BA says it will put a figure on how much the ash disruption has caused next week, but not before."
I was looking at this with a view to seeing if some can be bought on a lower level.
transatlantic flights were leaving from uk today.
Does anyone know if BA losses money because of the volcano ash problem or will they just claim there losses off some sort of insurance? Many thanks in adavance for responses.
controllers delay strike!!! Bless them.
The somewhat scary news story is that last time this volcano erupted, it lasted a year.
apparently the Knight Rider star has changed his name He is now called David Hoff. maybe he did'nt want the Hassle
already, but they wanted to get the A team in to stop the strikes, but BA refused to fly
long term i am hoping so, short term not bothered
