I'll be glad if BA and their overinflated ticket prices leave Gatwick, their surly staff are better suited to Heathrow and skanky west london ;o) Gatwick is a very pleasant airport, especially the North terminal where BA flights arrive and depart.
trust me ask any buisness passenger from the states (newyork, chicago, la,florida .ect )they do not, repeat do not period ..want to fly to this airport.. gatwick is a hell hole and ba are well rid of it.. and as for all eggs. well wait till US ( sooner than u think) flights are the cheaper from heathrow than gatwick.. trust me the drop in passenger numbers out of gat will be huge.. its a smart move long term.
The long running battle between LGW and LHR still continues I see. With Heathrow running at pretty full capacity, or close to it, it seems a ridiculous situation to plan sending even more flights there. Any number of T5's will not open up airspace and nor will an extra runway. Perhaps the writing is on the wall for BA at Gatwick if the Virgin/EasyJet consortium manage to purchase Gatwick from BAA. Is that still a runner I wonder ? Once BA lose Flight slots at Gatwick then they will probably be gone for good and "all your eggs in one basket" springs to mind especially in such a vulnerable business as this.
BA announces job cuts at Gatwick British Airways has announced it is planning to cut more than 100 jobs at Gatwick airport. The company said it was planning to operate up to 15% fewer departures at the Sussex airport next summer. Four aircraft will also be withdrawn. Ground operations staff including those working at check-in desks are expected to be affected by the cuts. The GMB union said it was surprised at the announcement, adding it feared up to 180 jobs could be lost. GMB official Adrian Baker said: "We will be seeking an urgent meeting with the company to find out more information and we will do all we can to keep job losses to a minimum." Voluntarily redundancy BA said in a statement: "We have briefed our staff and their trade unions that the number of departures at Gatwick will reduce by 15% next summer compared to this summer. "We are also reducing the number of aircraft at Gatwick by four from 41 to 37. "In light of this, we are looking to reduce our ground operations staff at the airport by more than 100 people. "We are committed to doing this voluntarily and aim to have a voluntary severance programme in place by the end of this year." The reasons for the move are thought to be the worsening economic climate and BA's trend of moving operations in London to Heathrow Terminal 5, which has been sped up by the advent of the Open Skies agreement between the EU and the US. In its most rece
can it get over 1.70

BAY in talks with Qantas over a possible merger
whoops a swear word in my last post. Humble apologys Hope Gordon Ramsey does use this site poor bloke wouldnt be able to say much
Seems that BA looking to get into bed with anyone, they were even considering options with Alitalia at one point! ****s hehehehehe who next Aeroflot? No, dont even think it!!!!
Got to pay for Terminal 5 somehow ;-) I hear T5 working very well now. So says some-one who implemented the IT and another who works in cust relations (on the Airport floor,..she's not drunk either!) BA got legs!
They made a profit, but part of that profit came from overcharging customers. BA supposedly overcharged by £70 Million! "Although the deal was struck by American lawyers in an American court, the bulk of the settlement has been reserved for British passengers – £73.5 million. That equates to a refund of between £4 and £20 for each return ticket and up to £10 for a one-way ticket. For frequent flyers and corporate customers, it could amount to hundreds of pounds." http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/transport/article4272512.ece
Fair enough arguments Bay. However you overlooked a major negative and that is that British Airways will be out of pocket soon for all the money they have overcharged travellers, in collusion with Virgin Air. Like many International Travellers who claimed their refund, I am currently awaiting my own refund which is based on at least one set of First class flights US-UK, Business Class and also World Traveller Plus UK-US and back. This I think might affect share prices? It might also affect cosumer confidence in that company. I've been flying KLM since then!
i think shares go down all the way
so flog em now, for a profit and then buy more back later.
the point is that they have made a profit in tough conditions
Trying the understand the Stock Market at any time is a challenge! Here are a few factors I know that influence BA sp at the moment. 1. Its largest market (TransAtlantic - USA) has been badly hit, businessman are not travelling (no one has a job!) 2. Oil Price has been v high 3. In talks with Trade Union re wage structure for European Hub 4. Trying to tie up with an Indian Airline put on back burner 5. Lufthansa just purchased BMI majority giving it land/take off slots in direct competition to BA Plus side 1. Merger with Iberia and tie in with American Airlines 2. BA have been on constant efficiency drive for last decade 3. Loss of TransAtlantic competition from 3 airlines (Silverjet, Maxjet, EOS) over last 6 months 4. Oil price reduction These are the ones I know off....! I am sure someone out there can shed light on a few more I believe pros out weigh cons and bought at 1.17 but will be turbulent ride. Iberia merger is v good news as it opens South America market which BA has v little exposure. I am sure BA will get around the India red tape and set up base there (may take time). BA have been one of the few profitable airlines over the last decade and have good track record. Business is challenging but BA are well positioned (I think!!) As always please do your own research, as mine is based on reading newspapers and looking at the pictures... I think a sense of humour is best with shares at the moment. Good Luck
iam new to the share game i bought 1300 shares in BA at 1.50 coupie of weeks ago ! do u have any shares ? no one is interested in BA shares on this site do u know why ?
Dear Panel Members - why is this notice bored so dead. can we have some discussion here. Any opinion on this company. Will it rise, decline or go fold in the next few months? i'd welcome comments please - thanks
It is not clear which way this stock is heading. We could see further drops possibly hitting the pound mark very soon! I think the pension deficit and the continuing turmoil in the financial markets is weighing down on this stock. Crude oil has dropped significantly but why is this stock not rising. Any ideas please?
can anyone tell me why no move up today with shares on up !
heard this on the HBOS chat lest night
