Mologics test using optimer ligands didnt use animals in development, nor reliant on any immune system, so it wouldnt be a unique selling point for avacta.
Ditto...
Jeez this is falling apart. Don't tell anyone.
MSDS safety document does say Affidx contains antibodies. I did message Avacta asking to confirm, but no reply so I'm taking that as a yes
CO you are right - MABs for Tx using phage display have been approved. I was under the impression that for DX the companies continue to use the older tech. Just an impression, partly gained by listening to the recent symposium. What we can say is affimer inside is animal friendly guaranteed.
AgentBull-**** strikes again
“Might bring the focus on avacta thereputics though where they use animals in drug trials.”
They should copy Pfizer and skip that part.
Monoclonal antibodies can be created these days from phage display using libraries of human antibodies created from certain human white blood cells, I.e. with no animal involvement. The library of human antibodies avoids the need for that initial animal immune response to create the cells used in the old hybridoma method.
So some MABs can be ‘vegan’. Not all the providers use the new methods yet, but it's what the EU and others are trying to push the industry towards. Just saying Affimers are not the only vegan option on the table. And AffiDx could potentially still include polyclonal antibodies on the control line strip, as they’re relatively cheap and don’t need to be exquisitely specific for that purpose.
Not sure that there's any reasonable alternative as far as bringing a new drug to market Tim. However there is an alternative with diagnostics and that's Affimers.
Might bring the focus on avacta thereputics though where they use animals in drug trials.
Brilliant marketing point this. I do hope that this will be exploited and I imagine that the Boo hoo boys will be on to it.
Yep, 'veggie'.
Peace and long life to LTH's.
“Invest long and prosper.” (Eventually!)
Brilliant, yes all Vulcans were vegetarian. Its a highly logical thing to be.
It’s been popular for ages, and often with scientists. I pretty sure even in the 60s Spok was a vegan.
According to AS no probably about it
The Vegetarian Society was formed in Britain in 1847. In 1944, a faction split from the group to form The Vegan Society.[123]
A 2018 study by comparethemarket.com found that approximately 7% of British people were vegan, while 14% were vegetarian.[124] The results of this study however are questioned by the UK Vegan Society who found that the sample was based on only 2,000 people.[125] According to The Vegan Society's larger survey, the number of vegans quadrupled from 2014 to 2018; in 2018 there were approximately 600,000 vegans in the UK, equivalent to 1.16% of the British population as a whole. As well as this, 31% are eating less meat – either for health or ethical reasons, and 19% are eating fewer dairy products.
Participation in Veganuary has become increasingly popular, with the number of people signing up rising each year.
A 2018 Gallup poll estimated that 5% of U.S. adults consider themselves to be vegetarians.[133][134] Older Americans were less likely to be vegetarian with just 2% of adults aged 55 and older saying they follow a vegetarian diet.[133] Younger generations of Americans are more likely to be vegetarian with 7% of 35- to 54-year-olds and 8% of 18- to 34-year-olds following a vegetarian diet.
Cannot find figures for Spain. I cannot say any more.
“If Carlsberg made LFTs….”
the worlds first and most accurate "Meat Free LFT"
I'm actually blushing.
Thats actually a huge point. I will make sure Avacta and Medusa know this is a key marketing message.
That's the nicest thing you have ever said to me.
You touched me, right there
Actually, that’s a really good point.
if you are part of the community that does not eat and / or use animal products be aware that all LFDs except Avacta (and possibly Aptamer group) use antibodies created by animal methods.
If the vegetarian public were aware of this they have the option of an animal friendly test brought to you via the power of phage (alright, radio W.E. F.U.N.K) - testing centres secure your supplies.
Campaign via PR fairly simple.
Oh hang on........
