"He declined to comment on rumours that he is being considered for the top job at Vodafone or on recent developments at the FTSE 100 company."
I can't read the article as it's behind the FT paywall, but I'd suggest he isn't being considered for the post of Vodafone CEO; If he was being considered for the CEO post, he wouldn't be contributing to articles knocking the industry. The parts I've seen, in quotes on here, would suggest he's been eating some sour grapes.
Well - finish the year as it has been the majority of 2022 - DOWN - lets hope 2023 is a better year and they get somebody in who actually knows what they are doing . Its getting a bit of a yearly occurrence finishing lower each year . Happy New Year everybody .
Poker, that's fair comment. But telcos have a history of wasting capital on no growth. I am happy to see €5Bn free cashflow and maintain the dividend through the recession. VOD doesnt need to be 1st to blow its cash, can be 2nd and avoid mistakes
Olaf Swantee, who ran EE for five years between 2011 and 2016 and who spent two months as a non-executive director on Vodafone’s board last year before deciding to step down.
He declined to comment on rumours that he is being considered for the top job at Vodafone or on recent developments at the FTSE 100 company.
"Many telecoms groups have got themselves into a “death spiral” of offering investors high dividends, which was stifling their ability to invest and innovate.
“When you don’t have growth in your model, and you just have a dividend story, the risk is that over a longer period of time, you can’t transform your business any more, you’re just a bank for your investors,” he said.
“The telcos that are stuck in a high debt/ebitda ratio?.?.?.?they are having a harder time to transform themselves successfully.”

dividend suspension or cut can only be done for the last dividend since the interm is already gonna be paid.
but suspending dividend like bt for 2 years can reduce debt by 5b euro.
or you could just open a savings account and have a very stress-free life, sounds very boring though ?
A balanced portfolio is what works best for me, you won't get them all right, but if you can get more right than wrong you will be ok, unless your very confident in what your investing in of course
but we all all different
Happy new year guys
No mole the opposite of exponential is logarithmic mate.
Exponentially means to increase at a steady, rapid rate.
Don’t mention it, glad to assist.
I’ll go for the opposite on the assumption exponential means at least 2x. 170p next December, no.
The BOD also won’t hire energetic forward thinker. They are after someone to confirm their own theories, and accelerate a strategy that is not working.
If the new CEO cancels the div and buyback, I’ll take them seriously.
A very happy, healthy and prosperous 2023 to all posters here and their families. This is the time of year for predictions and new year resolutions so here goes.
I am of the opinion that VOD will soon have an energetic, forward thinking CEO, someone who will rid the company of its complacency and improve the lives of all shareholders and employees. Yes even ex-employees who have retained one share.
Upon the announcement of the new CEO there will soon after be a flurry of good news announcements, a slimming down of dead beat parts of the business, a promise to keep paying the divi and a paying down of debt. As a result the SP will rise exponentially and we can all pay our gas bills. Prediction over, best wishes all from everyone here up high on the hills.
It's going down, it's game over man, GAME OVER!
Charts charts charts lol
Yeah thank christ this last 43 years of investing have I never taken the slightest notice of them
Chap trying to deramp Voda a hugely traded share on a small forum simply has no effect....ever
Dan, we would all like the share price to be a lot higher, but it is what it is and no point moaning about it, hopefully it has now bottomed out and better things to come next year for Vodafone, it's up to everyone to decide for themselves if they think this a a good buy at this price, personally i think it's worth giving it a chance, and hope the new CEO can make the right decisions to improve the company's performance, to be honest all my other shares are in need of some steroids as well
For a retrace
robleo. I think you may have spoken too soon about the good humour. I reckon the vod board bashing will just continue as before? Still, at least you & me are sounding positive? Jokey Hokey Cokey.
Meh - I guess that the interim CEO Margherita & her chums on the BOD are having to take their time in choosing the new CEO. After all they mostly serve on the boards of various companies, not just VOD, Marg is also on the board of Reckitt Benc so that will take up some of her precious time. We can’t expect them to only have one job no matter how highly paid, the snouts need to be in as many troughs as possible. Appointed to enhance shareholder value so she was, don’t make me laugh. Happy New Year all.
when will new ceo come its taking too long
I reckon this Vodafone follows the Nasdaq. So tomorrow down a bit again after late day falls in America.
'Welcome to 2023.'
..and i mean that most sincerely folks
Nice to see you all in better humour, you was a right miserable bunch before xmas, even Dan is doing the hokey cokey , let's hope it works and turns this around, hopefully this will be looking a lot better sometime in 2023 so chin up
youyouyou. I thought the new C.E.O. was going to be Hughie Green? Am I missing something here? Anyone who can double your money, gets my vote.
So as to negate the idea that I am always negative here, firstly this years 20K ISA allowance looks to be heading this way soon & the following recent analyst report is encouraging (yes I know what we think of these guys) … “ Refinitiv data shows a consensus analyst rating of ‘buy’ for Vodafone – 5 strong buy, 5 buy, 9 hold and 5 sell - with the median of estimates suggesting a long-term price target of 130p for the share, roughly 49% higher than the current price (as of 12 December 2022)”. Here’s hoping and a HNY to all.
No news on new CEO yet.
Double your money & try to get rich, double your money without any hitch, double your money, it's your lucky day, double your money & take it away. Well lets hope so, £1.70 will do me. I could do with treble though! Whatever will be, will be. Happy new year everybody. Do the hokey cokey, lets turn it around, that's what it's all about.
It can go north if market sentiment goes north. On that count it’s all still too fragile. Too many potential black swans hiding in the reeds.
Will be a while before markets are convinced all the dangers have passed, or the dangers actually arrive and down it all goes.
Welcome to 2023.
Well if the Opportunity Knocks you could pick these shares up at a great price .
