Hi troubles
I thought it was an April fool but it's on BAT Rns
ATB:))
Hi Nige,
Was not impressed by the Govt briefing yet again.
Lost count of the number of times that 'intention(s)' was and has been used.
In summary and from Day 1 - ' Great intentions become fragile action when delivered without careful thought '.
Nige
SPs will not recover until the companies can restart production and sales and there is evidence that demand can return to pre virus levels.
IMO, unfortunately a bit more pain ahead for the HB and we may see further lows here. It will take some time to recover from a crisis like this one (I only assume as it being my first ever such experience!) but once we do, slowly but surely recovery lies a head and for HB, my best guess currently is starting sometime from Q4 onward.
Hi Troubles
I think we could be reaching a turning point soon, due to more optimistic reports which could lead to a change in market sentiment.

Hi Levis,
Very interesting.

Hi Nige,
From the article : Notably Sweden spends more per capita on its public healthcare system than U.K, Spain or Italy.
No true accurate picture as to who does and does not have Covid-19.
Lack of built-up Metropolitan areas.
Each country is unique its make-up or structure etc... but all have had to succumb to a certain degree of lockdown as the only means of reducing contagion even though being irresponsibly blase IMO, in the first instance.
Hi troubles

Note About the best prepared country in Europe to handle the situation, yet no lockdown... and less cases than most of Europe.

Hi Bamps,
Heard that somewhere today - maybe they want to get more of us addicted ?
I thought age was a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
I've found that I've grown immune to most other things if not this damn virus as I've got older, at least.
BoL
They're all at it :))
BAT are developing a plant based vaccine using tobacco plants
BATM are developing a home test kit expected in 3-4 months
Hi Taverham
I am unable to disagree with what you're saying but all the reading I've done lately on the vaccine is that the Australian trials really inconclusive and in the scientific world that's no good. The only drug that seems to be working is rendesvir, the one developed for Ebola, but it's not the vaccine it's helps the people infected to recover, unfortunately it is in short supply.
The vaccine is not a drug if you read N4pharma Rns they've developed a partial skin cell of the virus and sending it to labs for them to produce a vaccine .
Jennie Harries on the Daily briefing was asked about the Australian project and dismissed it and confirmed a vaccine would not be available this year
Any vaccine produced is not expected to work well on the older generation anyway as our immune systems get weaker with age
ATB:))
Hi Taverham,
Sounds hopeful but the degree of immunity might be related to the amount of exposure to the virus.
A 6-month trial taking place, so some time off - apologies for the 1/2 empty glass but just about to top it up.
ATB
Here's something positive , Australia is trialling the use of BCG vaccine against the virus. Research tells me Italy did not universally use it [against TB}and Spain stopped its universal use in 1981. Germany were the last EU country to stop.
I am hoping the 'mild' symptoms some UK people eperience are a consequence of some residual immunity and that BCG can be an interim vaccine that can quickly be adopted and life return to normal.
Anyway, I thought a Directors cut was confined to film-making.
Wouldn't want them to undergo any real kind of hardship.
BoL
Not accurate but the workload must reduce as the business becomes moth balled. I think their pay cut should match my dividend cut .Simple.
Directors doing 10% of the WORK - is that accurate ??
D
Taverham.
There we have the glass half empty version! LOL
Hats off to the directors who are foregoing bonuses they would not have been awarded and for taking 70% pay whilst doing 10% of the work!!
Ducati hi,
Yes agree and I too have the same plan to ride this out until it starts to look better then back in for the dividends next year.
Keep well,
ATB
Tom :-)
TomE,
What we also have to bear in mind is the way in which TW restructured after the 2008 crash, they made it into a fundamentally stronger company IMHO.
They realise that we aren't even in the tunnel yet let alone seeing any light at the end and have mitigated against further bad news in a very responsible manner.
For now I'm investing short term in companies such as Yourgene Health, one of the few on my platform showing a bit of blue.
My strategy with TW is ride this out until it starts to look better then back in for the dividends that will inevitably return IMHO It will be one of the core stocks in my SIPP, which due to my pension age having been increased, will be very important.
As Arnie would say "I'll be back" :) :)
Hope there's not many of TW's houses half built or empty for long !!
Ducati hi,
Well said and lets hope other companies do the same. TW are a great company and will fight on as they do and will recover in time. To keep monies back is I agree a good thing and may well keep them afloat for the unknown future. BAck in 2007/8 when TW were in a bit of a fix the same thing happened not so much as now but it worked and they fought back to where they are now.
Keep safe
Tom
What a reassuring RNS from TW!!!
It shows great responsibility and the directors will to take a salary reduction!!
Hats off to them for taking their part in protecting the company!!!
Times such as these sort the men from the boys, give yourselves a big round of applause guys!!!
