I like shopping at aldi and lidls because its cheap. Having said that I have a small sainsburies and tesco holding and I see their shops are overrun by consumers buying stuff left right and centre. I don't see any cost of living crisis yet. Quite the opposite. Maybe it only affects the poorest because the middle class is buying carts of crap to no end.
" UK consumers are ditching British grocers and switching to German discounters."
Well you carry on with your budget German discounters, that's your choice and every other consumer.
On the face of it, Tesco has not done too bad considering the years of households finance strains for the last 10 years and the rapid store developments across the country from the discounters.
I believe completion is good for all and has made the likes of Tesco/Sainsbury Morrisons etc to up there game.
What i don't like is the B/S that gets posted and comes across very anti Tesco and as a passionate British man i support all UK companies and businesses at all times, shame others don't give a t*ss and at times use this agenda for their own financial gains, however this BB is so quiet it would seem irrelevant.
Happy New Year anyway.
Looking at the very latest Kantar UK grocery numbers, the short- and long-term downtrend in Tesco is clear.
* Nov 2012 = 31% share
* Nov 2021 = 28%
* Nov 2022 = 27%
For German supermarket Aldi, it has tripled in a decade...
* Nov 2012 = 3% share
* Nov 2021 = 8%
* Nov 2022 = 9%
UK consumers are ditching British grocers and switching to German discounters.
Tesco mature cheddar 400g made with 100% Briitish milk is £7.50/kg - so better than Lidl (assuming that price quoted is accurate)
Ps none of this is helping me decide whether to hold my investment here or take the (small) profit and move on. Just have the feeling there are better opportunities out there. Thoughts?
CCC. Now you must have gone into the "budget stores" to be able to write what you wrote below and I am not afraid to write that I do Tesco as well as Lidl and Aldi but your reference to "quality" is very debatable. Lidl in particular rarely puts a foot wrong and stocks a lot of British made goods e.g. extra mature cheddar made in Somerset for £7.69/kg vs Tesco £9.55/kg
LOL, Tesco stores are far busier than anything i have seen at the budget stores, for the last 3 days my local extra's road have been gridlocked with customers trying to get in, on the flip side an Aldi and Lidl carparks are 3/4 full with no queues whatsoever.
Savvy customers have and will continue to shop at Tesco.Sainsbury etc for the biggest shop day of the year, bigger stores, better choices and food quality is a play for the big day.
Someone highlighted Tesco advert, i would agree, a poor watch and they need to up their game in future.
I still find it bizarre people want to trash a UK owned business supporting so many charities, in favour of a foreign owned with all profits going overseas.
I could go on and on, but you get my drift, still each to their own, we will always be divided regardless of what the topic is, but i suspect ones trading has something to do with each others sentiment.
Quite right skier1, only the board members and wily late night shoppers get anything worthwhile out of Tesco, everyone else gets suckered.
..."err because of capital appreciation"...
Hate to break it to you, but the TSCO share price today in 2022 is lower than it was in 1998 -- a quarter of a century ago. TSCO is one of the worst-performing shares for "capital appreciation" the world has ever seen.
My store has been far quieter this Xmas compared to previous years? Now obviously the stores are bussier than normal but have any other staff members here noticed a quite overall shop this year?
Why are Tesco adverts such rubbish compared to the other supermarkets ? I went into Morrisons last week and it was a really festive experience with lots of Christmas well displayed items. Tesco , you would not know Christmas was coming , drab and miserable , could not find Cranberry sauce and the so called festive food looked sad , and Brandy butter non at all . We need to shape up .
I agree skier, I think just over 200 is very likely, lower is possible.
err because of capital appreciation
Of course it's not lively, one can now get a better yield from the interest rates some banks are offering so why would anyone buy Tesco shares?
There is obvs a technical bounce off the 200p support-line here from Oct 2022. But TSCO is likely to test that 200p level again in the coming months. With Aldi and Lidl continuing to grab big UK market share from Tesco and others, the TSCO share price can really only trend in one direction.
Market share down = share price down.
In terms of SP it has climbed strongly in the last few months, my personal take is that it will float around the 225-230 mark for a bit now and consolidate before any potential further move up.
Why do a 6 mile return trip for a negligible refund. These things happen. Get your refund thr next time you are in store. They won't quibble over it.
Yip, all paid on time, ISA and Tesco non ISA. And spent by Mrs Easy.
Paid Friday on time, all accounts. IWEB.
Nice to see the Directors shafted as well ! Be interesting to see if my share re-investment price is the same as theirs .
anyone in same situation ?
Interesting. I'm gonna guess the fruit was oranges?
ive just bought some fruit in carlisle and its spot on.
every little helps lol
Plenty of action from me I am on my way to return some fruit to Tesco extra at westwood Margate ,my wife purchased it in store but when we arrived home we found some of the fruit was rotten inside the net it was in .This will mean a 6 mile round trip to return the product at a cost of time and fuel .And they say Every Little Helps ,It may do on there side.
Not much action on this is there?
i am at Barclay Smart invest, no sign of dividend at this moment...
