AO is a good shout, my local one has just leased off floor space to a fast food chain called Slim Chicken....bit of a KFC copy I think not tried it yet. With the right partners installed they can create a go to destination quite easily I would say.
This will not make much difference because Tesco execs are an idle lot and the correct SP at the moment is about 180.

At the start of September Tesco signed a deal with "The Entertainer" Over the last week The Entertainer has been moving into 35 of Tescos larger stores using price labels printed by The Entertainer. Ok, Tesco did not have the best toy section or selection but i feel this gives Tesco an income from renting out shop floor space. Not sure how this will affect profits especially over Christmas going into the Q3. Tesco has clearly identifed that larger stores are not making the most out of the floor space so they are renting out to increase more pound per sqft. My local has recently had a Greggs and Timpsons and lost half the mezz floor to pulling back from electrical sales. This is now a huge void boarded off with junk behind it. Tesco are at somepoint going to need to fill this electrical/tech void within there business at some point and rent out the space. What can i see coming to fill this void? An online retailer like AO. Once a contract is signed for this void and having a good selection of home electricals and tech back instore this should help pull in more customers especially with Clubcard points are earnt on larger items like TVs and washing machines. Ok, so im looking a little far ahead here but something needs to happen to generate more income because Tesco seems to be taking on water at the moment. I am an Employee and also a £60k+ Share holder. This dip is painful at the moment. Im holding on tight for the ride and hoping to see 310 before the end of financal year.

As someone who works full time , has a great social life , children and has a hobby or two. I find it baffling how people like yourselves @skier1, have time to be on random threads regarding companies they clearly aren’t invested in.. I have to make time to check in every now and again on companies I’m invested in let alone ones I’m not. Baffling and almost laughable.
Yes, for the British customer, the choice of food, drink and goods is incredible. You can buy 20p noodles at Lidl, or a £10 microwave meal at Waitrose.
For the British worker, tho, it is a scary time. Foreign competition is laying waste to the UK retail and supermarket industries.
Marks & Spencer, for example, is (just today) closing 1 in 4 of its big stores. Morrisons is plunging behind Aldi in the latest supermarket share stats. Tesco has slumped from 28% to just 27% UK grocery share since the start of the year. Aldi is growing nearly 10 times faster than Tesco. Aldi has grabbed 1.5 million extra customers in just a few weeks.
The UK downtrends are not good signals for the TSCO share price.
Don’t you think we probably have too many supermarkets but never complain enjoy the choice and pray it lasts. But some as indeed Tesco now so large that you have to ask an assistant to look up on their fon which Lane to find your product! Never the day when one supermarket in each town and a long queue !
The supermarket experience is long gone IMO. Amazon has hardly got started on the UK market IMO. They can afford to watch and wait.

Aldi's global revenue is 2 times bigger than Tesco. For scale, Tesco is a global minnow. Not to mention Tesco's ridiculously unproductive carparks (too big), unproductive stores (too big), and unproductive range (too big). Aldi is in a whole different business league.
The UK today is plunging toward recession. Just like 2008, cash-strapped consumers will head for the cheapest shop. That is not Tesco... It is Aldi. The price gap now is huge!

We are living (right now) thru the end of the British supermarket industry. It is too inefficient to compete. Think British Leyland vs. BMW-Mercedes in the 1980s.
I would also be fearful that aldi and lidl will keep gaining market share from tesco, as the have over the last decade. Particularly now as budgets might get stretched a bit more.
Tesco is still the biggest supermarket therefore it has bigger economies of scale. Past sp performance has no bearing on future performance. It is defensive because people will always buy food. If Tesco so chose it could go low cost, with terrible shopping experience and muscle out Aldi etc but that would be an awful idea. I think Tescos has it just about right at the moment. I think Tesco is a bargain. I’m buying.
How can TSCO be a "defensive play" -- the share price has plunged -70% from its peak, Aldi and Lidl are grabbing share offline, while Amazon is chipping away online. It's about as defensive as Nottingham Forest's back line!
its the overall shopping experience that counts- even though I shop at lidl- the experience I get there from the the staff at the tills, who push my shopping out as though they are giving it away for free. ...
I feel self service is much better than deal with the aggressive item pushers at Aldi and lidl...what can we expect at cheap shops--- I think I will get much better experience at B and M and Herons
I’ve recently bought in. I think supermarkets are a good defensive play, but the reason I chose Tesco over the others was from my personal buying experience. I live in an area where I have Tesco, Morrison, Aldi, Lidl and Waitrose all within 10 minutes of me. By far the easiest self-checkout is Tesco. Morrison’s is too slow and clunky, Sainsbury I always end up having to get assistance, and the others don’t offer self scan yet. It’s the simple things that make the experience better IMO
just been to do a bit of shopping @ Tesco once again car park full of happy shoppers with their clubcards at the ready to get some super bargains. all the checkputs operating and the self scan was busy.
the staff are really helpfull, always willing to chat as they put the bargains through the tills. (even the store manager was hands on now that shows good team spirit.
most shoppers dont give a monkeys about share prices and market shares they are there for the shopping.
i drove past aldi on the way home only one checkout out of seven was in action and loads of parking in the car park and not many customers in store. never mind they might pick up soon christmas is on the horizon lol.

Aldi and Lidl are taking over the UK supermarket industry. Their share goes up every year. Their collective UK marketshare has more than tripled from 5% in 2012 to a record 16% in 2022.
Tesco has plunged from 31% in 2012 to 27% in 2022 (and accelerating).
Aldi and Lidl (particularly Aldi) provide good food at ultra-low prices. For example, I stopped today at Waitrose to buy a tiger loaf, sliced pork, and marshmallows, for a cost of £8. Wandered round to Lidl, where roughly the same stuff and quality was £3. You can guess who took my cash...

Tesco not lost any market share since 2019 (Kantar). Aldi and Lidl have gained but at the expense of others, mainly Sainsbury, Asda and Morrisons. The clubcard is now popular amongst teens and twenty somethings where it used to be something only older people used. It is true there is some mild trickery involved but most people perceive they're getting a bargain and will make return visits. There are some really good deals on clubcard - the occasional 25% off 6 bottles of wine for clubcard members is very popular.

Lol David Lol - the debate over a meal deal. If you could easily get that meal deal elsewhere for far less - people would. Or, buy the multi deals (ending soon) and make your own for the week.
i aggree i tripple my clubcard points every year , last year i got a £300 watch for a hundred but really i got it for nowt cos the points are free.

no im not, im actually wanting a good entry point to get in here and im definitely not an ex employee - but the subject is the club cards. nothing else matters and the truth is you only save yourself from over paying with one, im out of this conversation because for some reason your turning it personal have a good day.

Dave, you're clearly shorting the stock - or possibly you're an ex employee who got fired for stealing. As for the sandwich deal, it's cheaper and better value than any of their competitors, that's the part you forget to mention. Aldi and Lidl have £2.50 sandwiches on sale (no deal) would cost you £4 minimum for the same items in either of the discounters. Sainsbury's and Morrison both do deals but both are more expensive than Tesco and offer far less choice.
