It’s incorrect (for what you are trying to portray). You can’t use the Crude rate for this.
The Infextion rate is running at over 5 times that tested in the U.K., so in other words, actual infections are 5 times higher. This has been shown within ONS statistics and modelling. For example63% of all 14-24 year olds have been infected.
Smithy.
As it's for New York the rates of infection may be higher there than in the countryside. Below 65 yrs the rate is 0.09% I said a total figure of 0.1% so according to this report I was on the low side.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/
"Mortality Rate (23k / 8.4M = 0.28% CMR to date) and Probability of Dying
As of May 1, 23,430 people are estimated to have died out of a total population of 8,398,748 in New York City. This corresponds to a 0.28% crude mortality rate to date, or 279 deaths per 100,000 population, or 1 death every 358 people. Note that the Crude Mortality Rate will continue to increase as more infections and deaths occur (see notes under the paragraph "Herd Immunity" below for details)".
Though I may be incorrect, I'm assuming it's fairly typical for large cities. There are other links shown, some with higher figures but as these could be old so in need of updating. It seems unnerving to me that so many people die routinely, and we all go on with our lives as if nothing has happened. Remember this is in addition to all the other 'Normal' fatalities occurring.
DYOR Good luck to all.
That's a good link Blue. Wonder if nypost got hold of an updated statement from Whitehouse ahead of any statements later on. Seems like they have more detail and if they are right, any new restrictions are much weaker than feared. Almost tokenistic. If we get a few days of calm and a couple of early restricters back tracing then we could see a steady improvement in SP. Glad I ddint listen to the Wumau army who hopped on the board last night to helpfully warn us all of todays impending doom and 80p (in 20 words or less)
VIX is up since the news of Omicron in the US. Lets see what happens when the US market opens today.

JTOM, the mortality is nowhere near 0.1% for the population. Mortality rate for healthy under 60 year olds is around 0.006%.
Retirees need to be legally enforced to stay at home. This issue has been caused by their inept immune systems. The rest of us normally don’t even know that they have it
Great to see we're in the mid-ish thirties, the vol has slowed nicely to around average at this time of day anyway. Hopefully we're over the worst of it. More dry powder around just in case; however I would rather start buying as we start rising again. Next week or two critical to my mind on the spread of the Omnibus (Clapham mutation?).
Time for some Kallo crackers and a swift Shandy Bass before BBC's The Outlaws. (second episode hilarious (bit rude though in places). GLA
Just checking out the sp and I see something quite unique. We have a spread of +4% to -1% across the sector. We don't normally get that. Block trading out of sync? Variables being reset? An interesting overview. Easy J is my focal point, waiting for the takeover rumours.
I've also noted my investing.com live market sp are sticking a lot over the last few days. Sometimes they will stick straight away and other times go on for sometime before hanging. I wish the app developers would just leave them alone. They cannot stop fiddling about and ruining them. The number of great perfectly working apps I eventually deleted because the developer kept messing it about until it just failed.
Geopolitical politics aside ;)
SP is looking pretty healthy.
If we've priced in uncertainty around sleepy joe , which I'm sure we have then, the doom and gloom from the wu mau army didnt materialise. Probably just traders trying to make a buck before any announcements but seems like market is not that fussed.
jotom, ??? moron!
Ford.
Luckily people here can easily see what has been said and by whom. I need nothing more.
Jotom, really? Qanon? Are you really that insecure and childish? Sounds like to me you are one of those.... take your pick. I reckon you are afraid to go outside without a hazmat suit on, yet sit behind a keyboard acting out like a petulant child.
Maybe you need a nap and a diaper change, this has become too much for you to handle? too woke maybe?
I can keep this up all day, do you really want me to?
Let's just agree to disagree, you and I will never meet in the real world, so just leave it at that. Have a nice day or whatever.
Ford.
You clearly are trying to feign hurt now. It does not work. You have never equally apportioned blame to all, as it should be. That is your message. Only you know why that is. Others can guess for themselves.
Ford.
PS. Keep on with the child dying narrative, if that's what you want to take advantage of, it's just so obvious. Disgusting. Did you get that idea from Qanon ?
jotom, you are happy to put words in my mouth to suit your agenda, yet are outraged if I do the same to you. Take a pill, you see anyone can play that game as you have done once again.
We can disagree if you wish, I'm ok with that, but to denigrate me or dismiss what I say as it does not suit you, you should expect blow back.
Ford.
Don't misquote me, or put words in my mouth as you are doing. You are letting your colours show. I have never said any such thing and you know it. What is clear is that All the richer countries have to change their policies. But clearly the same harmful ends can be achieved by different selfish means. That is apparent in geopolitics, I excuse no one. Who are you excusing?
As for "Or one of undermining democracies and sowing seeds of revolt and disharmony is good?" You still think you live in democracy? Nice try.
Pointing fingers while doing the same **** does not absolve you of responsibility.
This is about equality, maybe you think that is not a good idea, yet you are living in a pandemic. I will be honest, I could careless if all the old people over 70 died from covid, all the obese died, I do however care that kids are dying needlessly, perhaps you do not....
jotom, so you are saying that it is ok for US and UK to fuel wars so children can die? Got it!
Ford.
Ah, the emotive "fuelling wars that let children die from hunger". So crippling debt and undervaluing supplier countries natural resources does not do that also? Are you saying that a dictator in a country with a long term plan of expansion and dominance is any less corrupt as far as as the world is concerned? Or one of undermining democracies and sowing seeds of revolt and disharmony is good?
"my point is that US,UK, Germany France are fuelling wars that let children die from hunger" - history would second that view.. and more actually --> "stripping natural resources from nations wholesale, whilst protecting it's own, committing those nations to crippling debt".. oh, detention camps and genocide too.
they are all the same (recent china included).
jotom, I am from the UK, just don't live there anymore. Don't get me wrong, China is as guilty, my point is that US,Uk, Germany France are fuelling wars that let children die from hunger, don't detract from what I said and move it to asset stripping by China and allowed by corrupt leaders to continue
https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2021/11/30/leaked-crash-video-of-british-f-35b-shows-jet-dropping-off-carrier-ramp/
I am not cleared to fly military aircraft. But I think even I would have realised as I was going up the ramp I was a long way from the required velocity and would have slammed the breaks on able to bring the plane to a halt instead of taking it swimming.
Ford, so you're saying that china stripping natural resources from nations wholesale, whilst protecting it's own, committing those nations to crippling debt and conditions is of no harm or does not leverage control over them?
https://www.scmp.com/news/china/military/article/3139603/how-china-grew-buyer-major-arms-trade-player
"Is China also a major arms exporter?
China has decreased its dependence on foreign weapons and expanded its military production capabilities in recent years, becoming the world’s second largest arms exporter behind the US in 2017, according to research by SIPRI.
From 2015 to 2019, China was the world’s second largest arms producer, SIPRI said. While it used to rely heavily on Russian imports, China’s advancements in weapon development have now placed it on par, or even ahead, of Russia."
Clearly you are not from the UK. But where are you from?
https://chinapower.csis.org/china-global-arms-trade/
China is a global weapons sale player and has it's fingers in a few pies as a cold war position. It is building it's world base using soft methods at the moment allowing direct access to Chinese forces to base overseas if it wishes, rather like American military bases overseas. Chin is a little late coming to the game, the power transfer has only really begun in earnest in the last 15 years or so. But China is rapidly taking over as the new superpower and will by default get it's military exports in more war zones. It relies less on copying technology and can now create its own as it has matured over the last decade or so. It is a very serious threat now and has world plans to have us all speaking mandarin and operating Chinese style governments. It will all kick off with Taiwan. People were worried Trump would press the big red button. Sleepy Joe won't be able to stop pressing it once he starts!
jotom, I make the distinction based on weapons suppliers, not industrial or richer nations. China has a huge presence in Africa, yet do not participate in weapon sales to places of war, like Yemen, where the sides are very clear for all to see.
Selling weapons to create or prolong war only affects the helpless and poor, they suffer the most.
Every country that has a knee on the neck of poor countries have to be blamed too.
