Putin ordering the attack resulting in many ethnic Russian Ukrainian troops KILLED?
Sorry, missed a critical context word....
MHUK, yes, the ethnic Russians. In our perfect woke heaven in the UK, such ethnic division is not recognised. But in places like Ukraine the divisions can be very deep. The 'Russian' areas are the ones I was suggesting would be nibbled away and not needing an invasion of tanks and this is what Biden was intimidating as low level minor ingres. And if the component of the Ukrainian army is half ethnic Russian then it could be an issue, but it can work both ways. Putin ordering the attack resulting in many ethnic Russian Ukrainian troops? Even in such a controlled society that would not go down well and you could end up with the Russian army refusing to follow Moscow orders!
As I said before, one huge game of chess is beginning. There is already a war there with live ammunition skirmishes. Another objective might also be on Putin's card. Breaking up the EU to bring back Eastern states back into a new Russian Soviet union. A number of Eastern EU states are not happy in the EU to start with. And looking at the various positions of the EU states and how the EU has allowed itself to become reliant on Russia for its main energy supply, Putin has the upper hand here. Marcon is moving to align with Russia already.
One huge game of chess.
The Russians smell blood and they are absolutely correct to. There is no will to get involved in the USA in obscure quarrels between people they know little about. Afghanistan showed that last year.
China will be watching like a hawk btw with an eye on Taiwan. But the long term truth is that America is already a spent force. The British Empire died
As a short term policy, Biden should indeed call Putin's bluff. Send in the US military and place them meters from the border.
I expect a sudden reversal in the IAG share price next week probably. A lot of positive news is not priced in and as other say this is a general FTSE sell off so for me not losing sleep over it.

The eastern part of Ukraine, Donbas is full of ethnic Russians that have access to the Russian market and want to join Russia, not even sure if Ukrainians will want to liberate them. Note that half of the Ukrainian army is also ethnic Russian, who may not have the willingness to fight their fellow kinsmen. If given the choice I'm sure many desert or switch sides than face the bombardment of Russian artillery and MLRS. Afterall some are merely in the military for their salary.
Russia will have air superiority which will lead to ground base fire support. We need Biden to call Putin on his bluff and raise the cost, escalate to de escalate. By stationing more troops and assets near Ukraine and raising the morale of the Ukrainians. Appeasement will only further encourage Putin and he will be around for much longer than any democratically elected leader.
War with Russia won't benefit anyone. That would be a disaster beyond comprehension. We're talking about a nation with the equivalent in tech to the US in almost every area. It would be more likely they'd let Ukraine fall that go to war imo. Sanctions and maybe defensive weapons is all Ukraine will get
Don't understand the over reaction to the FED news tbh. Really good time to have spare cash, but the interest rates will barely rise by historical standards. The impact will be limited on the economy unless they go further which they won't because they'll kill the recovery.
Short term pain. Especially if you're in crypto... majority of it down 50% over the past 2 months...
Us airlines taken another beating today :(
Dan, you are right, war only benefits the US and it's industrial war machine. The markets are not reacting to the possible war, they are still bouncing from the FED pulling the plug and raising interest rates, like no one saw that coming for the last two years!!
Bitcoin, yeah, what can I say about that... Money is going to gold ATM, so things will settle like you and now with Ireland declaring open doors, others in EU will follow. That can only spell good news for this sector.
I think B-B posted something earlier about an EU wide 'person'pass, so that all those vaxxed can travel, regardless of point of origin.
This uptick is a lot slower than last year, but it will go up and you can get to your target price.
US and Russia holding Frank talks, this means vlad stamped his feet because he wanted attention and got it. The usual game. This likely means markets will be settled a little next week.
Open fever should also continue next week as Boris scrambles to placate the masses.
Bitcoin on the other hand might just crumble. If it does we could even see money pour into equities.
