The word Scottish is exactly as you described. That is to say people who qualify under the legislation and are registered. The word Scottish does not refer to a race, an accident of birth, in this context. If it did, I would not qualify to vote seeing as I was born in London.I
But I chose to live in Scotland and have done for fifty years. That it gives me the right to a point of view. It does not give me the right to spout condescending and insulting nonsense about what is happening in India, in Wales and most other countries as I don't know the subject. I accept that but England still thinks it is an empire and has the right to interfere in the affairs of other countries.
I am more worried about how it will go for Ljungberg in Arsenal
Sturdgeon may want a vote but she has no leverage so if Boris decided to not listen to her then he wont. Done it before. The matter is decided like brexit. Lets get it Done!
Rosewall,
I hardly ever, ever comment on these matters, but since I am seeing investment boards inundated with questions that should not be discussed here, and factually incorrect statements, let me point out to you that what you wrote is plain wrong. There is no Scottish citizenship officially, as it falls under British citizenship of the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the Scottish Independence Referendum (Franchise) Act 2013 defined those able to vote as those aged 16 or over who were registered as voters either through the existing local government voters' register or a new "young voters" register, and holding an appropriate citizenship (Commonwealth, Irish or EU member state). So, English, Welsh, Canadians, and EU citizens could also vote, as long as they lived in Scotland and were entitled to their views. Let me conclude by giving you the address of the person who would decide whether an independent Scotland would become part of the EU: Avenida Puerta de Hierro... And the odds have and will always be very poor!!!

A citizen of the UK is of no import on this question. Only a citizen of Scotland is entitled to a view.
And you think Gove's word is law?
Cmon girls - stop getting your knickers in a twist over scotland. Gove has just come out saying their wont be a new vote so stop looking for problems that arent there
Scotland -
Let me explain the thinking I saw while living in Scotland for 8 years.
The Scottish will hope England loses every game of football. Indeed if England played any team . The Scots will cheer on "any team" to win. They don't like Westminster's hold on Scotland. They enjoy ridiculing the English !
However - And a bloody big However.
When the chips are down and the shhit hits the fan - They will fight with the English and lay down their lives with them !
WW2 and more recently the Falklands war proves this.
Summary - We in England are the butt of their jokes but the majority still believe in the UK and indeed are prepared to fight for and with it !
Rose wall,
You say "What has it got to do with you"
Simple - I am a citizen of the UK. So I have a voice !
Just to correct you. I am talking UK and not about a little England.
Just to add I lived in Scotland for 8 years and understand more than you assume !
Scotland would vote again to be part of the UK.
Like Cornyn , Nicola is flogging a dead horse.

Actually, the term was once in a generation i.e. 20 years. Secondly, what has it got to do with you? Let the Little Englanders keep England and Scotland will remain happy to accept outward looking internationalists. United Kingdom is a state not a country. The three countries (or two countries if you consider Wales a principality) and Northern Ireland is certainly not united and certainly not a kingdom (though I won't be pedantic with the use of the word Queendom). You have QE2, we have QE1. Scotland and England are so very different, very much chalk and cheese and, believe me, the countries will never be united and at peace with themselves. A shame but that is humanity for you.
Neil, I agree the snp are a progressive pro immigration party , which makes sense in a country with a falling population and bloated public sector . Try living in a country where the beautiful countryside has been turned into desprate housing developments , the road and rail system is over crowded along with the schools and hospitals because successive governments have allowed people from all parts of the world to settle in a place that can only sustainably support 30m , about half of those present. However people dress it up that is the core reason the english voted for brexit imv.
The trouble is though Jan that she now has a more or less overwhelming mandate - some sort of compromise is needed and federation could be the answer.
Johnson will I think now head for the centre ground in British Politics in much the same way as Blair did in 1997 - he is much more like Blair than Thatcher in my view - also he wants a 10 year term and to freeze Labour out.
If Johnson does develop a more popularist base that is likely to appeal in Scotland as well.
The answer to the Scotland issue is easy !
Like naughty children Boris should take away their toys !
They have far to many MP's for Scotland. What is it , 52 MP's represent Scotland.
The solution is simple Boris should threaten to reduce the number of MP's in Scotland to just 2.
That's all you need . Scotland West and Scotland East. That sorts out any power issues.
Lastly ban Whisky production in Scotland. The production of Whisky only allowed in England.
This would put Nicloa Sturgon in her place.
Finally on a serious note. The last vote in Scotland for independence was supposed and agreed to be a once in a lifetime vote .
Come back in another 60 or 70 years then !
Some in Scotland need to realise that Scotland is part of the UK and has to respect the wishes of the UK and not be so bloody selfish. They lost the vote. The people of Scotland voted to stay in the UK. The Europe issue is just a excuse for some to attempt to try again !
You lost the independence vote in 2014 - move on !
Neil
Do you think the Scots would accept federation - outside the EU - rather than Independence with EU membership?
It could be bad news either way for Enquest with increased taxation likely from a Scottish Government.
Neil, I am confused by someone who wants indepence for scotland complaining about nationalism or isolationism. Frankly to create an indpendent scotland and all that entails would be a huge drag on scotland and the rest of the uk. crazy idea imv.
It could be that we will see Johnson offering Sturgeon more devolution - that would be the obvious compromise - maybe she wants that as well - that might even pave the way for sorting out the West Lothian question by removing the need for Scottish MP's to sit in the UK Parliament.
Boris should change the voting boundaries to reflect the number of votes cast. How can 48 seats be right for only 4% of the total votes cast. It’s a joke.
Scotland will end up another Bankrupt EU country.
The fish woman hasn't told them they won't be able to afford free uni, free dentists, free prescriptions, free old age care etc all currently subsidised by us.
I think Scottish independence is the last thing that Enquest want - the SNP are bound to see North Sea Oil as a valuable source of tax revenue. If things start to move in that direction it could also have an effect on the SP.
If there was a vote, the outcome according to the opinion polls, would be much to close to call.
This issue will I think turn out much more difficult for Johnson to sort out than Brexit - it is likely to rumble on for years.
