"This government" and many others around the world? 'Global politics' where many of our supposed leaders are concerned has become an absolute and highly embarrassing joke. Other than Merkel I cannot think of any statesperson-like individuals who behave in any way other than we might have expected in the playground in decades past. Today's Cumming's revelations are absolutely pathetic in my view and merely confirm what most of us already knew; our political hierarchy of all persuasions is unfit for purpose. Where will it all end?
It seems this Gov’t are following China, in that if they change the law to make it a requirement of employment then tough you’re unemployed. Perhaps more of an issue for those pregnant who were previously told it may be ‘preferable’ to be vaccinated.....do you feel lucky !
The tolerability of risk was the subject of much research as part of the Sizewell inquiry. Publications are available via the HSE.
Patients, employees, employers need to keep risks as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP). In my view vaccinated and tested care workers will be needed to satisfy ALARP.
And what if care home staff refuse to be tested, do they still have the right to work?
Pimlico...sorry
Pillion Plumbing has it in their job contracts now...all employees must be vaccinated. Apparently they employees have no problem with it.
"So we are now into the realms of vaccine facism - no jab, no job."
Agree AgentB but how many people out there ( vaxed or not) have their covid app switched on? or imagine all those folk in the gig economy "negative test or no pay" I suspect many would just keep shtumm rather than loose 10 days pay. Airlines and the like to a large degree can police the testing. It's difficult enough to avoid the 'righteous' maskless wukfits let alone thousands of people making the difficult choice between being a good citizen and paying the rent.
Answer...haven't a clue!
Agent B, are you saying you will never travel if you are on plane including yourself that are all double vaccinated?
Can you remember what sort of precautions you took when the UK had swine flu?
("The relatively small number of cases that led to serious illness or death were mostly in children and young adults – particularly those with underlying health problems – and pregnant women" NHS UK.)
I am not by the comparing the severity of Swine flu to Covid, covid is different and more lethal but my post is, what level of risk is acceptable?
This from the Guardian at the time:
Up to 65,000 people in the UK could die from swine flu if the pandemic achieves it worst possible potential, the government warned today.
The chief medical officer, Professor Sir Liam Donaldson, said that in the worst case scenario 30% of the UK population could be infected by the H1N1 virus, with 65,000 killed.
The best case scenario is that 5% of the population contract the virus, with 3,100 deaths.
The estimates were released as the government confirmed that 29 people had died in the UK after contracting swine flu.
The flu is spreading fast across much of Britain, with 55,000 new cases in England last week, according to the Health Protection Agency.
The death toll was released by the Department of Health as the Scottish health secretary, Nicola Sturgeon, announced that a female tourist who had the H1N1 virus died in hospital yesterday.
The woman, who had other serious health problems, died at Raigmore hospital in Inverness last night. It is unclear whether her death has been included in the official toll."
Exactly, PL, it's the same principle as "Would you sit on an aeroplane next to someone who had been double vaccinated but not tested?" The double vaccinated can still spread the disease. Therefore accurate testing is the alternative and employment should not be contingent on waiving human rights.
I'd prefer testing. You can still carry and spread it whilst vaccinated. It's a cheap price to pay especially if there's a suitable 100% sensitive test available
Scardlycat.no side effects at this time .
Increase, out of interest, which vaccine have you had? Have you reported your side effects?
Speaking of risk, there is a greater risk of blood clotting to women from the contraceptive pill than there is from Covid vaccination. I wonder how many will gladly take one but not the other..? With age, these risks are greatly outweighed by the risk of catching and spreading Covid. Not a great idea in a care home. It’s pretty clear cut to me.
As is often the case, it’s more of an education piece. I’ve heard plenty of anti-vaxer rhetoric and most of it is nonsense.
Testing .using good tests .no person need to be forced to take eperimentery vaccine.while no supporter of UK freedom Alliance Twitter .do agree with petition on vaccinating children with. experimentry vaccine. testing and more testing .
So patently obvious that those looking after old folks need to be vaccinated its not worth debating. Needless to say the majority will likely already have done so. Exemption for pregnant women would be usefull in my opinion subject to their testing with an Avacta LFT twice a day.
Agent, what is the alternative? Test every care worker every week, every day, twice a day? for ever?
What level of risk do you think is acceptable?
This is THE key question going forward.
Nothing is full proof, Not vaccines not tests, nothing, so at some stage, some sort of definition of the risk to society in living with covid needs (and will be) made.
Currently it would seem that the govt will accept the risk based on the efficacy of the current vaccine against the current variant(s) of covid, with presumably boosters as and when the mutations demand it.
There is no "perfect" solution to this disease that I can see.

So we are now into the realms of vaccine facism - no jab, no job.
Personally, I would say that this contravenes the first and possibly also sixth principle of the Nuremburg Ethics Code:
The Nuremberg Code aimed to protect human subjects from enduring the kind of cruelty and exploitation the prisoners endured at concentration camps. The 10 elements of the code are:
1 Voluntary consent is essential
2 The results of any experiment must be for the greater good of society
3 Human experiments should be based on previous animal experimentation
4 Experiments should be conducted by avoiding physical/mental suffering and injury
5 No experiments should be conducted if it is believed to cause death/disability
6 The risks should never exceed the benefits
7 Adequate facilities should be used to protect subjects
8 Experiments should be conducted only by qualified scientists
9 Subjects should be able to end their participation at any time
10 The scientist in charge must be prepared to terminate the experiment when injury, disability, or death is likely to occur
WHY is nobody talking about the alternative?????
