Russ, those are my feelings exactly. I saw the great results and a 22p rise in sp and thought the price would slip away during the day as it normally does. Instead, we have seen sustained gain which has to indicate real confidence. I’m annoyed I sold what I sold but pleased with what I still have. I compare with my other holdings like BP and Shell that report record profits, derisory dividends and correspondingly thwarted sp.

bigger fund managers buying for their pension pots I would say.
What is going on with the SP! We've had fantastic news on shareholder returns for the past year from Blanc.and we know there's more to come before this announcement. Why is the reaction to these results different...
Condole with me. I took profit, selling a third of my holding at 435p. Still, my remaining two thirds have shot up another 22p so it’s all good really ( or 67% good if you see what l mean). Pat on the back for Amanda or does she get paid enough any way?

Read the news reports
"In the six months to June 30, its IFRS loss widened to GBP633 million from a GBP198 million loss a year prior. Aviva explained that this "largely" reflects adverse market movements and has no impact on capital or cash remittances. Adjusted operating profit rose 14% to GBP829 million from GBP725 million."
So I suspect that this is down to a fall in investments due to worldwide market conditions. However I'm no expert. Hope that help!
Tempted to take profits and buy HLN.
Can someone explain the impact of IFRS loss statement 'Aviva said its IFRS loss after tax had deepened year-on-year, widening from £198.0m in 2021 to £633.0m a year later, largely reflecting adverse market movements'. I can't get to the bottom of this. Sounds very negative, and no-one is talking about it?
I almost get the feeling Amanda’s long term goal is to get Aviva sold to private equity. It would certainly net her a few £.
"At this rate we could be revisiting 450p today!"
Bubbles59 - done! < thumbs up >
"“a closing price for AV of 445p.... Elsewhere it's showing as 414-416p. Am I missing something??!!”
Yes you are. I guess you looked at HL website between 4:30pm and 5:00pm. Their prices on all shares are always way off during that time frame. If you refresh the page it will change but still be wrong. Have to wait until after 5pm for a probable correct price"
Happyzone - What Knows-little says is true. The HL dashboard is very poorly designed in terms of the way it calculates and displays figures. They even somehow contrive to display differing figures in the Day Change and the Day gain/Loss columns, both the percentages and the monetary values. But the after-close-of-business displays are the most egregious. I brought this up with HL some time ago now. They had no explanation as to why this happens, but they actually recommend waiting a couple of hours after the close of business to get the most accurate figures for that day.
Also, here's a tip ...
If you refresh the dashboard (Command+R on MacBook Air) you will get a very brief sight of the ACTUAL current price of the stocks displayed rather than the 15-minute delayed price. My technique is to fix my eyes on the share price or percentage I'm interested in, then press Command+R. As it refreshes, it displays the actual current price for about a quarter of a second before reverting to the 15-minute delayed price. This is usually enough time to see the current price, but you can refresh the page as often as you like. I hope that's of interest. < thumbs up >
Excellent . exactly what we wanted to see.
It was difficult to watch with this sub $4 for quite a while , but enough in the report to deserve this re-rate and much more to follow. Well done to all holders.
I share the opinion that buy backs are far less attractive to shareholders than a special dividend but also get that they improve company metrics so BoD look good. Whether or not this influences potential investors and raised share price doesn’t seem to be proven. For some companies (like Shell I feel it’s more an admission they don’t know what to do with the money, but following consolidation aviva seem set on reducing number of shares in circulation as a strategy.
As always, time will tell.
Well, I've never seen that before in over 30 years of trading. As I mentioned, HL price for AV at close yesterday showed 445p and guess what, AV just hit 445p.... A strange coincidence?!
If you were a conspiracy theorist, it almost makes you think there are other forces at work somewhere....!
pleasing results and int divi ....gla
I think it's fair to say the market likes what it sees!
Bubbles, fantastic to have good results like this for a change also my lgen shares did well yesterday
Best of luck
Thanks robleo! The pleasing thing for me is Aviva plc has demonstrated that it is now a Growth company and not just for Dividend seekers. Are you watching mr Tulloch? This is how it's done!
Bubbles, you was right to be confident when i said i was unsure, well done mate
At this rate we could be revisiting 450p today!
The market was spooked by Sabre and DLG and when AV, unlike LGEN, chose not to issue a (panicked) trading update the market assumed AV's results would also be impacted (and the share price fell accordingly). I think Blanc has made a strong statement; if she has something to say she will say it but, otherwise, she will not pander to the market's foibles and issue RNS's every time the market has a panic attack (you do it once and the market starts to expect you to issue an RNS each and every time it has a wobble)
Up 4% early doors already!
Well, the market seems to like it.... I would much prefer a buy back. I'd only blow the cash....
Oh Whoopee.
Another buyback - returning cash to shareholders. Not. :(
As I said when someone mooted it on LGEN earlier in the week - may as well set fire to the excess cash in the car park.
Just pay us a special.
Strong results albeit suspect inflationary pressures will pull back their COR at 94%, but shouldn’t dampen overall continued progress. A long term hold for me.
40% increase was more than I expected for divi. Buyback on top is also good news but still unlikely to move the share price...
