Contract Win

MTI Wireless Edge Ltd (AIM: MWE), the technology group focused on comprehensive communication and radio frequency solutions across multiple sectors, is pleased to announce that Mottech Water Solutions Ltd, the Group's subsidiary in the wireless irrigation control solutions ("Mottech"), has secured its first contract in Mozambique. After 10 years of operation in South Africa, Mottech has an established client base in the region and is working on expanding into the commercial farming market via the appointment of service and sales distributors in Mozambique and other countries in Southern Africa. This new contract in Mozambique will be delivered in multiple phases with an initial value contract of 1 million Rand and an expected total value of up to 5 million Rand. 

This is the first sale of Mottech's agricultural product range to a farm in Mozambique and the project will serve as a reference for the benefits and cost savings that can be gained from precision farming. The deployed system will automatically and accurately irrigate and fertilize crops by remote control with exactly the right quantities, at exactly the right time, by wirelessly activating specific valves in the fields. This will increase crop yields and quality, while saving on operational costs and labour.

South Africa is increasingly suffering from periodic water shortages (as are most other African countries), creating demand for smart accurate irrigation solutions. The Mottech solution enables farm owners to easily plan water budgets according to advanced agricultural parameters to reduce their water consumption, fertilizer usage and energy costs.

Mozambique has 3.9 million hectares of arable land for agriculture use and this is 97% designated to small farmers and 3% to commercial Farmers (117,000 hectares), which are the perfect potential customers for Mottech's irrigation solutions. This represents an addressable market of over a billion Rand for Mottech.

After completion of the merger with MTI Computers and Software Services on 20 August 2018, Mottech is one of the Group's four primary operating divisions that also include MTI, MTI Wireless Edge and MTI Summit Electronics.
