Muse Developments to deliver £350m Swindon town centre scheme - 

one of the largest in the South West

Morgan Sindall plc, the construction and regeneration group, announces today that Muse Developments, its urban regeneration business, has signed an agreement with a public sector consortium comprising English Partnerships, South West of England Regional Development Agency and Swindon Borough Council to deliver a £350 million mixed-use development which will regenerate the heart of Swindon. It is one of the largest regeneration schemes ever in the South West.

Union Square will be a flagship regeneration project for the town centre, providing up to 160,000 sq m of high-quality office space and homes, 25 per cent of which will be affordable. It will also help to regenerate the town's leisure facilities, providing new shops, restaurants, cafés and a new hotel. In addition, Union Square will include a range of new facilities to improve visitor's experience of Swindon, such as attractive open public spaces, an improved bus interchange, new facilities for the local Primary Care Trust, and a new multi-storey car park.

The New Swindon Company, established in 2002 and funded by the consortium, has co-ordinated the consortium's interests in the project. 

Work on the project is scheduled to start in 2010 and is expected to take 10 years.
