Scottish Police Services Authority Joins HOST
ITM Power (AIM: ITM), the energy storage and clean fuel company, is pleased to announce that the Scottish Police Services Authority ("SPSA") has signed an agreement to participate in the Hydrogen On Site Trials ("HOST") of ITM Power's transportable high pressure refuelling unit ("HFuel"). The HFuel unit was built with support from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and launched at the Company's AGM on 15th September 2010.
The Scottish Police Services Authority provides expert policing and support services to Scotland's eight police forces and criminal justice community. Its key functions are to maintain and manage national information systems, forensic services, ICT, and training through the Scottish Police College at Kincardine in Fife. In addition, the SPSA maintains the specialist frontline officers and intelligence staff for the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA).
The SPSA manages a fleet of 350 vehicles across its business areas. To assist in the HOST programme, SPSA intends to trial the hydrogen-fuelled vehicles to support facilities management at the Scottish Police College.
Commenting for ITM Power, CEO Graham Cooley said: "The emergency services support sector manages significant fleets of vehicles and constitutes an important early adoption market. The signing of this agreement marks our entry into this important sector, and the involvement of SPSA allows us to evaluate our proposition to store renewable energy as a clean fuel for decarbonising return to base fleet vehicles."
Billy Andrew, Fleet Manager, SPSA, added: "As an organisation we are fully committed to reducing our impact on the environment and to incorporating more sustainable processes into the way we deliver our services to Scottish policing. We are pleased to support this trial next year, and will be interested in reviewing the outcomes of the programme as a considered option for reducing the organisation's carbon emissions."
About HOST
HOST will begin in 2011, and comprises the operation and refuelling of two Revolve Technologies hydrogen Ford Transit vehicles, with hydrogen produced at the point of use, at sites operated by participating companies and in the Gateway to London development area. The Scottish Police Services Authority joins Scottish Water, SSE (Scottish & Southern Energy), DHL Supply Chain, London Stansted Airport, The Forestry Commission, Vestas Wind Systems AS and local authorities Sheffield City Council and the London Borough of Camden in the programme.
HOST provides each partner with a one week free trial of HFuel and the Revolve HICE transit vehicles, and an option to lease both HFuel and vehicles for additional week(s). The demonstrations are 100% managed and operated by ITM Power personnel in liaison with site owners'operations and management.
As part of the HOST programme, ITM Power continues to actively seek both technical partners interested in storing renewable energy, and commercial partners seeking to trial zero carbon fleets.
