Result of AGM
Fiske Plc (the 'Company') announces that at the AGM held today all the resolutions were duly passed.
Speaking at the AGM, Clive Harrison, the Chairman and Chief Executive, said the following:
" In my statement in our Report and Accounts I alluded to the economic and financial problems which beset the world today. These problems have grown in intensity as the posturing by the politicians and central bankers has grown in absurdity. We are doomed to have the bankers and most of the political leaders who failed to spot the crisis of 2007 still in positions of authority. It is all too obvious that they have learned nothing from their previous folly and, to judge by their handling of the Greek problem, give them a small problem and you can be assured it will soon grow to be a major one. If you have a bag of 17 apples and one goes bad you throw it out - you don't try to rescue it.
None of the major financial problems have been solved or even look as if they might be. Accordingly, markets will continue to be volatile and depressed. We live in interesting times.
Fiske in the first quarter of the current financial year, i.e. to the end of last month - August, has performed modestly well in the circumstances and ahead of the same period last year. However, our business, like the markets, is prone to volatility and we don't make forecasts. We do look all the time to strengthen our core business of private and institutional stockbroking and there is seldom a time when we are not looking at some form of expansion. However, we will not jeopardize our strong balance sheet or our emphasis on quality".
