Amiad provides water filtration solutions to Singapore's third desalination plant

Recently-launched Tuas Desalination Plant incorporates Amiad's ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis membrane protection solutions

Amiad (AIM: AFS), a leading global producer of water treatment and filtration solutions, announces that it provided its water filtration solutions for the Tuas Desalination Plant in Singapore, which was launched on 28 June 2018 and is the country's third desalination plant. Amiad was appointed by HSL Constructor Pte Ltd, the project's construction contractor, and Tedagua Singapore Pte Ltd, which designed the plant, through a competitive bid process to supply ultra-filtration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO) membrane protection solutions.

Singapore's National Water Agency, PUB, has identified seawater desalination as a solution to the country's increasing water demand, which is expected to double by 2060. The Tuas Desalination Plant, which is owned and operated by PUB, can produce 136,000m3 (30 mgd) of water per day - equivalent to 54 Olympic-size swimming pools - through the treatment of seawater by more than 14,000 RO membranes. It is the first desalination plant in Singapore to use advanced pre-treatment technology, a combination of dissolved air-floatation and ultra-filtration.

Amiad has provided a total of 224 filters for the Tuas Desalination Plant consisting of 22 units of 4 x 10" Super Galaxy (55 micron) filters for UF membrane protection and 34 units of 4 x 10" Super Galaxy (20 micron) filters for RO membrane protection. These filters treat 13,900m3 of water per hour for UF membrane protection and 12,800m3 per hour for RO membrane protection.

Dori Ivzori, Chief Executive Officer of Amiad, said: "We are delighted to have been a part of this project to provide Singapore with its third desalination plant. It is vital that we, as a society, use all of the means at our disposal to meet the increasing demand for fresh water and we congratulate the Singapore government on their success in driving the development of desalination in the country. We thank HSL and Tedagua for choosing Amiad for this important project and we hope to continue to work together on similar projects going forward."

Charles Quek, CEO of HSL Constructor Pre Ltd, added: "HSL is privileged to be part of this historic project to build a compact 30 mgd desalination plant. We are thankful to all partners for this special journey, and the collective desire and drive to deliver with distinction."
