A great way of 'avoiding IHT' is to buy gold because it is difficult to track. However if when you die - you have gold in 'your' estate....all of it will be captured by IHT. You have to 'manage' it carefully. The easiest way of course, is as you mentioned - survive the 7 years AFTER you give your gold away to your immediate family. This is called PET by hmrc. (potentially exempt tax). And the 7 years restarts after each of your latest 'gifts' to the family.

* If you snuff it inside the 7 years, the tax man will claw it back from the kids!

Another great way to 'avoid' IHT: buy your partner loads of jewellery! Very difficult to value and track down by hmrc.

Peeps will say - avoiding IHT is relatively easy.......you engage with discretionary trusts/whole of life insurances / RNRB's / deeds of Variation, blah blah blah...

And they really do work and are very efficient. HOWEVER, deploying these tactics, simply kicks the IHT can down the road until the last remaining partner dies before the kids get their money. The question one has to ask is this:

Do I want to give this money (that would otherwise go to hmrc) to my kids NOW or years and years in the future when I die? Do the kids want it now to give them a leg up now, or can they wait until the next decade or two passes?

If you want them to enjoy the money now - then gifting is the easiest and cheapest way to go about it.

Either way - gifting now, or ringfencing for the future does mean that the amount of money you are trying to wrestle from hmrc is forever removed from your good self with immediate effect. [There are odd exceptions to this like "lifestyle trusts" but now isn't the time to discuss it].

Do you think you're going to die well into the future? How's this for an example:

I had a biking buddy who retired about 3 years ago. He was a bank manager (58) for a famous high street bank. Very financially savvy. In good nick and wanted to defend himself from IHT. Put all the advice into action but hadn't actually signed it off (trusts etc) because he procrastinated.

6 months later, he was crossing the road and tripped over the kerb. Fell flat on his face and broke his ankle and fractured his jaw. A week after he was recovering in hospital, he contracted sepsis and died. A year later, his wife had a stroke and died.

His estate ended up with a massive IHT bill.

I say again (and will continue to do so), for many shareholders invested in GGP, what Shaun Day giveth on the one hand - HMRC taketh away! [UK only].

For 'legal' couples (IE: those formally married or in a civil partnership), once your estate rises above £1m, the tax man calleth at the rate of 40% in the shape of IHT. And it doesn't take much to exceed £1m in the UK these days (especially when houses can be the main influencer).

For singletons / those living together without any legal status), the limit is £500k. And above that, IHT will rob you blind!

For legal couples with an estate above £2m - the IHT tax rate rises to 60% all the way up to £2.7m after which it calms down back to 40%.

So for an estate worth up to £2m - you will owe £400k in tax (immediately the last surviving partner dies).

For an estate worth £2.7m - the bill is .......wait for it........£820,000. (£400k @ £2m rising to £820k @ £2.7m).

For an informal partnership / single person up to £1m: £200k. Up to £2m: £600k and up to £2.7m: £950k.

There are numerous (limited) ways to avoid (not evade) IHT. Get professional advice and sooner than you think!

Scooby - so you are suggesting that on a sale of $1Bn - $2Bn, between $670m and $1.3Bn (minus costs) would be distributed?

Not feasible is it?

Sometimes using AI without ones own due dilligence - means the result is basically rubbish.

A Special Divi would more realistically be around 20-40p max, looking at other examples, perhaps.

4. WA EP Act approval for Havieron.

5. WDU PFS.

and theoretically all should happen over the next 8(ish) weeks.

The golden goose just keeps on laying.

The March Quarterly activities report is imminent. This is our next catalyst.
