POINTS
A report from S&P Global Market Intelligence released earlier this month identified the dozens of retailers that have filed for bankruptcy in 2020 — which is now up to 40, following Ann Taylor parent Ascena Retail Group’s filing on Thursday morning.
Pier 1 Imports and Modell’s Sporting Goods are two retailers that filed before Covid-19 was declared a national emergency in mid-March.
Filings have since piled on from Neiman Marcus, Sur la Table and Brooks Brothers, to name a few.

PROGRESS WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY
LEICESTER – Fast fashion brand Boohoo has reportedly acquired a former Vauxhall dealership in the UK city of Leicester, which it will transform into a highly-automated garment factory.
It’s said that the Manchester brand bought the site before it became embroiled in allegations that supply chain workers were tasked with operating at full capacity throughout the pandemic for as little as £3.50, which it denies any link to.
Though yet to secure planning permission, Boohoo has reiterated that its sourcing strategy will continue to rely on British suppliers – which provide quick turnaround times – but that automated manufacturing solutions could become much more prevalent.
