The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode with London Stock Exchange Group's Chris Mayo has just been released. Listen here.
Impressive level of chess you played there Quady, what was your rating at your peak? I played a good level of club chess and tournaments in my teens (not in your league ) . I played speed chess against Nigel Short, Tony Miles and various others, you must have played some of them for real? Apart from playing with my son I've not really played for 35 years, but I was about the buy Bobby Fischer My 60 Memorable Games and get back into it.
I've finally sold just less than half of my holding today at around 26.1p, I have been tracking Lloyds Bank share price for some time again and Solgold was within 1p recently, so not swapping at the optimum level but pretty close. Having suffered all the worry of going down to 10-12p with Solgold I am happy to buy Lloyds Bank at 31.5p knowing it is should return to 40p-55p once dividends are announced even if that takes a year. I shall hold on with my remaining Solgold shares for the time being but I am bearing in mind that long term funding is still not guaranteed, there could be a massive share issue, civil commotion or problems around the election. I hope it works but there are plenty of other good shares out there in this market.
If you can't find one, it's just an idea and depends on your circumstances but how about (1) re-mortgage your property (2) lend to your daughter with a secured loan (as long as it is a clear loan it will not cause you and SDLT issue) (3) include a term ensuring you get repaid on reasonable terms to you including she will re-mortgage as soon as the lending market softens to pay you off. Not ideal but it does work.
Maybe someone should ask for a comment on this at the forthcoming webinar. I may do, NM already thinks I am a pain in arse hassling him all last year and the beginning of this for an explanation of why the news blackout.
I do not know how this works, but from the posts last night, if the big swing last night in Canada was on very low volumes is it not possible that 1-2 investors just paid well over the going rate and that this may be corrected on their stock market later, rather than expecting ours to jump up? There seems to be very little appetite here for the shares.
Terrific news today, what a relief. One thing keeping the price down is that the share has no income/dividends, it makes it unattractive to most investors. Just got to sit it out. I’m holding now until Oct to see if there is a bid.
Happy VE Day! With respect FTF you entirely miss the point entirely, today is a celebration of the unconditional surrender of the Nazis. To clarify, surrender to all those who took part fighting and dying against them.
