if i am not mistaken, the share consol is only if there is a special divi, as by definition the TO is for shares that i assume will be cancelled post purchase by the company and therefore no consol required.

just joshing Bantam, it sounds like a dont go for the TO and hope to get a special divi for me unless that +5% is too good to refuse

i might put in for £ 7.50 and get my shares accepted if everyone else does £ 10 !

for whatever reason they have, i actually expect CNE to finish up today. not sure why but i do think the SP will be volatile but the closer we get to TO 5 day close period, i expect upward movement then. i'm staying in for the time being and we can always decide post TO close date to sell out in the market or to hold on for the special divi in any case.

1. the SP is now 200 !
2. i assume the SP will start ticking up when the TO weighted average SP is factored in
3. the TO price cannot be higher than £ 10 (yes you read that right)
4. i honestly hoped when all the hoohah and dust had settled with refund and trading results we would be min 225+, how wrong i was.

i get the feeling the market thinks the present management will distribute $ 700m (if they can find a convoluted way to do so) and then p*ss the rest up the nearest tree they can find.

S57, i dont know whether you are querying my term of a nothing day or whether to stay in or not. if it is the former, its my term for nothing really happening apart from a reasonable bounce back from yesterday (apart from CNE of course the perennial SP down on any news whatsoever) and if it is the latter, all i can say just from reading the presentation slides is there's a lot of info there but the sooner the co is bought out or taken private the better to concentrate on UK and Egypt and i would dispose of the exploration areas as we all know how CNE get on with that side of the business and there will be more money down the drain.

my dealing charge is 7.99 so i need to find an extra £3 from somewhere !

but the market doesnt think much of CNE. anyhoo, ive printed the reports today and will read them thoroughly to see what's going on to make up my mind as to stay in 100%, 50% or 0% ! GLA

you prob know this but Cairn Oil & Gas is the Indian co, nothing to do with CNE any more (apart from tax legacies..................)

I hear you LC but they couldn't even complete a $ 20m buyback in the time they were given. Doesnt bode well if they do go ahead with that element of the strategy

hey LC, do you really think JPM can get their workload sorted to get $ 190m odd share buybacks done in say 3 to 6 months or whatever their timeline is ? we are talking a phenomenal number of shares on a daily basis, ie at 225p per share ~ 64m shares at $ 1.32/£. why not just bung it into the TO or do a special divi for it ? ah well it keeps MS in a job i assume

it is all worded in corporate speak/gumf - "consider plans to pay a special dividend if the $ 500m not used up in the TO" (so no guarantees this is the case); up to $ 200m in share buy backs (how's that gone so far CNE ?); min/max price based on VWAP, etc; using eejits like NMR, JPM, Cazenove, etc to basically rake in the fees from this - i assume north of £ 2.5m, when all they had to do was do a special div and if it did not suit you for whatever purpose, you could sell in the market. i hope it is successful but from the beginning i have been uneasy about all of this. yes i will make a profit from this, but why not set your own destiny not one that the "big" investment houses know how best to be fee generating for themselves. it sounds like from tomorrow onwards, i need to seek my best exit and move on. i assume "those in the know" know the TO range for the SP upward movement today otherwise i would have expected red. with any luck it will be announced on tuesday.
