Well, the "Funding for Lending" scheme closed in January, and had been well telegraphed. I assume that this is what you are referring to. If you look at the amounts drawn down from the scheme (see link) you will find that it was only small potatoes in the wider scheme of things. Personally, I don't think that has been the reason that the SP has drifted, I believe it is more of an sector sentiment issue and the lack of investor commitment. Lets hope tomorrow will reassure the investment community that the traditionally cyclic nature of the sector is a little less cyclic, and a little more predictable :-)

We may look back and find that tomorrow was a pivotal moment for TW, and the wider sector in general. The last strategy update (three years ago) was well received and helped the SP to firm up from around 160 to 190 during the month. As others have pointed out the sector is still suffering from poor sentiment and poor investment ratings, however things have moved on and the builders are far more investable these days, not withstanding the backdrop of BREXIT and general political uncertainty. Of course, if the Analysts are not convinced we may well struggle forward in general malaise for the foreseeable future. Lets hope PR and his team have something compelling and innovative to say, and the Analysts may just start to view the sector through a different and more positive lens, and maybe a rerating will get underway.

If Dallo's information and insights are accurate, then these are weak numbers. With particular concern re the outlook. The Market may well take this as a profit warning, or at the very least the Company guiding down. However, remains to be seen if Dallo is correct. Tomorrow will tell.

In the interest of balance, and promoting facts. Where do you get that Liberty holds ~10% share holding from. CGC (not Liberty) hold ~11%, and they hold and manage these for numerous investment management companies. Previously, there was much talk about GS holding a large stake a while ago, and I posted to set the record straight then. GS do NOT hold shares, just options, and unless you are close to GS no one will likely know what their game plan is. For the less experienced investors on this BB, I would not invest on the basis that Liberty will acquire ITV. There is nothing more than gossip and FUD driving that story. Of course, as always IMHO.

Sure, but nonetheless the company has to set its stall out with respect to informing the shareholders (large and small) what its goals are, and indicate whether it intends to maintain shareholder distributions in line with currently communicated strategy (% of net assets etc). Of course the world will continue to turn, however they are a publicly listed company and obliged to make investors aware of the Directors deliberations re capital allocations.

Maybe Wimps have put a good lunch on at the AGM :-)

Interestingly the note on the TW website detailing Mr Mangold's exit terms, includes information which is pertinent to mutually agreed separation. So, if this was not personal or illness related, then it is a fair guess to assume that Mr Redfern and Mr Mangold has some differing opinions on strategy, and Mr Mangold has paid the price. The key date is now the strategy day (Capital Market briefing) in a couple of weeks, which will set out the next three year plan. I would suggest that if nothing significant is presented, then the share price will drift off after special dividend goes ed-div, similar to last year. We may find ourselves looking at low 170's.

Maybe that is the cunning plan :-) Talk the SP down then buyback and cancel. Mind you, there are over three billion sharers to go at.

Well, cautious update not want Market wanted to hear. Fist half will be flat on revenue, ignoring last year "exceptionals". See what is said later, although the Sttategy day in two weeks time will be crucial. IMHO.

Wishful thinking I suspect 😃 ITV are likely to be sidelined in the wider sector restructuring. Of course IMHO. Time will tell.

Johnny. Yeah, I'm looking at this more from a state of the current ITV business and its financial performance, than just the sector transformational issues. However, Netflix and Amazon literally have billions to throw at the scripted productions sector, and ITV does not. ITV may focus more on the unscripted (following people around with a camera), which targets the cheaper more commodity sector of the market, as opposed to the higher value Drama's sector. Lets see in twelve months how things pan out. I'm just responding to the fact that many on this Board are buying ITV on the back of BB chatter, with no understanding of what risk they are taking or the financial performance of the company.

Radiogent. Just few basic metrics from the 2017 accounts will help get a feel for whether the production side of the business can grow fast enough to offset decline elsewhere. Rounded figures: �3BN revenue split ~ 50/50 between production income and the rest of the business. Production revenue side grew 13% last year (is this fast enough). EPS fell 9%. Debt increased 50% from �637 to over �900M (alarming), which often shows up as increased EPS (old trick when Execs bonus measured on EPS growth), however in this case EPS still falling). Also, lots of references to Netflix and Amazon, which is unsettling given it is supposed to be ITV's set of accounts. You get the feel that its going to have get worse before it can get better. Either way, see what the strategic review brings, maybe the CEO has been brought in to split up the business and float off or sell the major components to try and add value. Of course IMHO.

I suspect that I will get slated for not holding any ITV, and daring to post my opinions. As all my previous posts re ITV, I still believe that they have more downside than upside, given their old tech business model. even at 142(ish). It is hard to see how the likes of ITV will prevail. I know some posters are emotionally tied to ITV, but any experienced investor will always keep positions under review, and after two years of steadily falling share price, the Market is making its point very clearly. Of course IMHO. Always interested to listen to alternate and well reasoned opinions.

Hi Wednesday I guess we are not too far apart. My point about the advertising side of the business is that (as I think you agree), is that it has high(ish) fixed costs and requires regular capital to maintain those broadcasting platforms and underlying technology. On top of that they sell advertising which is likely very profitable if they can incrementally increase this going forward. If, as I suggest, that advertising is less "sticky" than it used to be given many more digital channels, it will be increasingly difficult for ITV to maintain margins as I expect advertising revenue to be spread across more digital channels. Reinforced by a younger generation whose eyeballs are not attracted to the TV, as much as older generations. On the production side (more artsy), the British are quite good in this space and hold their own globally.

"Never sell at a loss ...", I fear stubbornness is a losing strategy. When the facts change, I change my mind ... to paraphrase a well know quote. Either way, IMHO, ITV is old tech and its business model is no longer viable compared to where it was 5-10 years ago. It does not compete in the new digital media marketplace effectively, and whilst it has value in its production side (content), the rest is burning through cash with no prospect of a decent return. Whilst I recognise that the share price may rise a few pence on a good day, I believe that there is far more risk to the downside, than the upside. The Market has been telling us this for two years, as the share price has gradually and consistently declined. As for the much discussed hope (prayers) for a bid, I wouldn't have thought that anyone would be interested in the whole, at anywhere near the current share price. Of course, my personal view.

Not sure about your math. All things being equal, the share price will drop by the same amount as the dividend on ex div day. So, if no recovery in share price then it will balance out with the dividend, and you have acquired a tax obligation, so you are worse off than not receiving a dividend. If no share price recovery, then better of with no dividend, and sell a few shares for CGT of ~20%, rather than pay ~40% on dividend.

Notwithstanding macro environments causing more share price grief, the next significant milestone for TW is likely to be May 15th; Strategy Day. Wimps will set out their stall for the next three years, and depending on how the markets receive this they may start to recover or fall away in the run up to the special.

I have a position in TW and periodically feel the need to offer some balance on the TW Board. A few of the less experienced posters often discuss ITV and convince each other to buy the stock, usually with no insight other than the promoter has bought on bid gossip, and would like some comfort and reassurance by encouraging others to buy the story.
